The heroes appear to be the worst. I'm not sure if it's a trick of the eyes because of the red, or what. I'll probably have to paint a couple of heroes, a marine or two, and a couple of martians ahead of schedule just to figure it out 'cause it's bugging me.

I guess if they make the Dungeon Saga dudes out of the brown marine color all will be well?

I mean, do we think its the color that makes the difference? I wonder if the heroes were sculpted by one guy and the marines another... I'm super worried though after seeing the heroes. I will try to hold judgement until I see some painted up though.

Yeah, if my daughter gives me half a chance I'm gonna skim a few mold lines off and try to get them ready to be painted ASAP, but we'll see what work and daughter allow me to do.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
As I trim these the different colored plastics almost have a different level of hardness between them. The martians seem pretty soft and bendy, the soldiers more in the middle, Eva and Ashley are both pretty stiff. It may have more to do with the posing and thickness of the models too.

Thanks for the pics! Interesting that the material feels different for different models.

I could just be hallucinating it too, I'm still pretty tired from the convention and staying up too late trying to at least get a coat of white on these guys for better comparisons.

What do we think, white and then maybe a black ink/wash to see what that does?

That usually works. Grey, white drybrush and black wash would work too but ain't no one got time fo' dat!

Yeah pictures going into the gallery in just a moment. I think they look better than I was seeing in the red, maybe not as good as I had hoped, but for a boardgame.. probably fairly acceptable.

Going to have to kind of imagine/draw your own eyes on a couple of them but the face is the right shape for it. I think Brandy is the worst. martian came through fairly well I think. Ashley and Eva again are visible but slim. A thick rattle can primer may obliterate the details if you aren't careful.

They do seem a good deal better with a clean and a spray, especially the red heroes. The martian grunts that you have circled, what is going on there? Just a complete lack of detail there is worrying. And going on what you have said on the KS comments, the different coloured plastics have different level of hardness?

Anyway than you for the detailed pictures and work, you have earned a massive sleep and rest.

Thanks for the new pictures. That coat of primer makes a world of difference.

I may have just been hallucinating it. The red models seemed a little stiffer than the green ones, but they also had much less dynamic poses so I dunno. I know the thicker bones gets the harder it is generally, this may be similar.

Ok so yeah, I think I'm supposed to be putting pictures up. Maybe tomorrow, this has been one of the hotter weeks of the season and I haven't had anything left by the time I get home.

Does anyone need to see the contents of Icestorm? Unless I have horrible miscasts, I'm pretty sure Carlos himself unboxed the whole thing on Beasts of War. The card counters are thin, about as thin as you can make counters, but hell with the LE minis, rulebook, and dice, anything else like the counters and terrain is basically extra/free.

I tried painting Eva, but no energy today.

I may throw something together using the ruins sprues, but it's too late tonight.

I didn't get any amazing cosplayer pictures, though my wife has a couple of nice shots.

Is there anything I said I would post that I haven't? I wouldn't call it a fuster cluck, but the weekend did not go smoothly enough to be conducive to getting things up here quickly. I still have the Jane's Gully battle shots, and a few images from the Kings of War battle, the Infinity stuff and Mars Attacks! should have been linked by now. And then I still have photos from the Zombie battle and some stuff from before that. I tell you what, if I get a day off, there will be pictures. But for now meh.

I did think of some funny stuff to incorporate into my next building. I'm thinking a bombed-out smut-house. There will be a board/sign on the wall kind of like they have at theaters detailing the current hot titles such as:

Backdoor Soraks 9
Dream of the fisherman's wife
Dream of the fishman's wife
Big Assets Corporate Edition

Where the first is a nod to backdoor sluts 9 from that lotr southpark episode, the middle two allude to that old painting/carving/whatever it is and the fact that Sphyr exist in the Ronnieverse and that they apparently thrive in the skin business, and of course something like Juggs or whatever.. but with a corporate spin.

Any thoughts for another poster/sign?

So phone probably does no justice. Needs highlights and a dip.

Found the eyes almost easier... like nothing in my way to paint around...

Heh, filing those away for later.

Now I've got a bit of a headcold in addition to being tired from work. We were replacing an older concrete wall (well cinder blocks with concrete poured into them) and the last piece was ridiculously hard to get out, and too big for our little machine to lift so I went into a berserk rage jumping as high as I could and slamming down the prybar (straight down, probably break a wrist with one of those if you used it like a bat that hard) until it was in more than one piece... Textbook example of D&D style barbarian rage, more str, more con, fatigue afterwards. Still feel bleh.

I think I'll finish up Eva first thing, then I've got a lot of stuff to get around to.

I think she turned out pretty well for just doing my basic base+minimal highlights+dip+flatcoat.

I'll consider it. What color? Studio scheme or something rather different?

Nice job on Eva.

As for the Alien paint scheme, they are so ingrained in my head as they appear in the movie I can't imagine as them as anything else. Although, I imagine the armor color varies, radically different skin tones would just seem off to me.

Nice work on the Cop there. She's very effective. Are tyou using the integral bases, or will you be rebasing them on your trademark clear perspex?

@Adamsouza, I was thinking some kind of mix of orange/flesh for the skin, somewhat similar to the studio set. More the armor is what is malleable. Dunno if I wanna do the same turquoise, or go with a greener shade, or try some kind of sinister black...

I was gonna a leave them plain entirely but people needed to have as clear a picture as possible so I started cleaning minis and adding paint to show the details... then there she was ready for paint...

Probably clear bases like everything, just in case they need to see action in a dead zone or on my eventual desert outpost.

I've borrowed my folks' dremmel to investigate it for easily removing the mini integrated bases from kow and dead zone minis, I'll probably stick to a knife for Eva. If it works well, I'll probably leave the mini bases on while painting then dremmel them off of the models right before basing.

Mostly this would greatly expedite getting KoW minis onto a multi base.

Got a package today but alas no battle systems or dead zone yet!

Souza says I paint a martian next, anyone else gonna contest that?

I would vote for a Infinity miniature personally but a Martian would be interesting too.

I have some infinity minis ready, but I always get a little intimidated by them, I wanna do a good job and I hate stripping models if I can avoid it.

I do have a primed Martian too. We shall see!

This! This is my problem! Except I'm a much worse painter so it's taken me forever to get to a decent enough level practicing on second hand models to actually start painting some of my stuff recently ; p Half jesting aside, I do understand what you're saying. Great models deserve a great paintjob!

Well they're more stressful if nothing else...

I did Eva in just a few minutes really, little bit here a couple of mornings before work, maybe one little bit on the couch watching TV with daughter. Infinity minis usually require a bit more concentration and effort.

I dunno though, I may just be psyching myself out. I don't think they're any harder to paint, just have to be careful and go slowly, the hard crisp edges of the metal make them a joy to paint as well.

I used to be like that then I realised I would rather paint them poorly than never paint them.

Keep the face studio scheme, but just change the suit scheme for unique squads

Eva looks great to me, a Martian would be excellent to see next in the painting queue.
