I like it too.  Do you plan on naming all of the models individually for an entire army?  That could be...tedious.  Nice work though.

did you use the tip of a nail for the pickelhaub , cool, but the WWI style had more of an hourglass shape . i like it . how many figs come in a pack ? did you get any accessories to go with them?

Dude-

That is some nice. The additions ar eunderstated enough so they add further depth to the fantastic models without over-powering. I have seen work wherein the individual work is better but this is one of those rare instances where the composition is what makes the conversion so nice.

You should be proud. Oh, and I will now begin to irrationally hate you for your incredible abilities.

Beautiful.  Did you make the name plate by hand?  I love the sling, really nice work man.

It's great to see you back around Dakka!  I miss your Sallies

I really like the way you did this. I disagree on the drinking cup, though. It would be contaminated and useless. A canteen with a special lid for drinking from a gas mask would be more appropriate. No morter for the bricks?

I'd take the spike off the helmet, It seems way too thick and clunky. Why not use a spike component from a GW sprue? For example Chaos Warriors have some nice plastic spikes that are subtle.

For me the whole death korp pointy hats things is just too much. Personally I prefer them to have smooth helmets. Fantastic work on the rifle strap though, really nice and expertly done.

@ Jester : The rat is to the left of the foot on the ground.

@ Railguns : I plan to do the entire army in this level of detail.

@ shrew: 10 figures in a pack, packs / accesories are shipped with. I have done some more work on the pickelhaube and you can see that below.

@ StarGate : Thats the problem with not looking where your going ...

@ Drake_Marcus : The name plate is due to be improved soon, watch this space ...

@ Breotan : They chemically clean the cup before use actually the deathkorps is suprisingly low tech in 40k.

@ Gundammecha : The spike stays, they are WWI troops, I made my own spike as can be seen in the pictures above.

The spike on the second mini is much much better. Really nicely done and on par with the qulaity of detial in the FW figures.

My only problem with Kurt's spike was that it was a bit too clunky.

Top work mate. I look forward to seeing the rest.

I just got a bunch of Death korp myself and have just finished building the Grenadiers. Amazing models I can't wait to paint them!

Welcome back Brother Argos! Excellent conversion work so far. I look forward to seeing how the rest of the squad comes together. Do you plan on doing a full (1500pt+) army of these guys? Or just a squad for display/dioramic? Also, you mention you did the rifle sling, is that all out of "white stuff" (white Kneadatite) or did you use something else? Finally, how is the quality of the castings? Any issues with the resin (excessive warpage, air bubbles, etc...) or is it pretty pristine? Great stuff & thanks for sharing!

These are looking great, very scenic bases and I like what you did with the jumping over the wall pose.

I've heard people complain about lack of varied poses with Death Korp but I totally disagree, they can be very versatile if you pose them nicely.

One thing though, in the middle guy (the one with the lasgun to his shoulder standing on the pile of rubble) looks like you still have alot of mould release agent on him. Its covered with that nasty very shiny thick sheen.

I found that with some of my Death Korp firing squad also, even after washing I had to carefully flick it off with an X-cato blade. It can get really thick and nasty in some parts. I guess though that you haven't cleaned these propoerly yet as they are WIP and held together with blue tac?

To answer your question Narly these are really amazing models and cast very nicely. I haven't had any problems at all with any of my kriegsmen and I have 50 so far, 2 advancing squads, 2 firing squads, and a grenadier squad. Also the tank crews and artilerry crews have been spot on. The only issue I've had with a few is some slightly excessive mould release agent. However with careful washing and a bit of skill these have come out fine.

I would 100% recommend these minis. No warping, no excessive air bubbles. Not even any warping in the very thin lasguns and the fine arms.

@ nyarlathotep667 : It will indeed be a full army, however I will be doing a display base. The rifle sling is Plasticard strip carefully posed, glued and trimmed. My experience differs from Gundammecha's somewhat, I had reasonable castings with a few mould tearing/mis-casting issues on the back packs and bayonets. The figures themselves had a few air bubbles especially in the rear coat tails (soon filled with Green Stuff). A lot of the weapons I recieved were bent/warped however as this is a 3-5 min fix that doesnt worry me at all. Overall the quality of the figures make a few small problems irrelevant, and I would have no problems recommending them to anyone.

@ Gundammecha : The middle figure is sadly just cast that way, it isn't mold release, he is just "shiny". I have had a few things like that in the past from Forgeworld, but they paint fine.

Hi Argos

Really? Yeah its odd, sometimes they are cast really cleanly and sometimes they are very shiny, I'd assumed it was mould release agent but probably not. Come to mention it I've had a similar thing with the Tau Crisis suit variants. Washed them like crazy and still couldn't get rid of the shiny areas. I was convinced that they'd look awful painted! But luckily once primed and undercoated they were fine. Its strange.

I think FW definately has some consistency issues for sure. It's interesting that your kreig troopers had a few bubbles. Most of mine have been spot on, but there were 1 or 2 that needed careful trimming and filing down to get rid of the trenchcoat mould lines and miss match areas in the cast.

Then again I'd expect that from any companies kit. Minor cleaning up and filling is all part of the builidng process and is also fun (in small doses!) I don't think i'd want a 100 percent perfect slap together kit.

I'll be starting work on my krieg shadowsword (when FW finally send me the CORRECT components!) and my armageddon basilisk. When I do I'll post some WIP. Probably I'll keep my troopers simple as I really love the models how they are, but I will be converting a krieg commissar (from spares), and will probably bulk out my officer and command platoon.

this stuff is awesome cant wait to see more.
an odd question now, have you bought any greniders? if so did you buy the centaur to go with them? if you did then did you get the version with the greniders sat in it, and if so did it come with the serg, etc etc as shown in the picture??? nothing like trying to confuse you is there! just trying to figure how i can get some DKoK for my inquisitional forces seems as my normal inducted guard are cadians and i have 3 squads of kasrkin (which i still cant decide on whether to paint them the same as my force or as =I= stormies, ala the codex)
cheers

Hi Millest

I have some of the Grenadiers. The 10 man squad and the heavy flamer team.

The centaur does come complete with all the Grenadiers that you see in the forgeworld photo. Driver, men sitting, heavy stubber gunner standing, and sarge standing.

Hope this answers your question.

If you want to know anything else about them let me know

Does anyone have a close up of the grenadier driver or the normal driver, I would be interested in seeing a sitting DKoK.

Hi Argos

I've actually ordered a Centaur as I want the crew for my Kreig Shadowsword conversion. Sadly its the only way to get a kreig driver and men sitting down!!!!

Probably I'll sell the centaur on ebay minus the kriegsmen as I really don't have any need for it at the moment in my army and also if i decide to go the thud gun route I'll just buy a set of 3 rahter than individuals.

When it arrives I'll take some photos. I actually would have started this project already if forgeworld hadn't have mispacked my Shadowsword. I opened the box and found peices from 3 different Super Heavy Kits! Totally useless....

I have ordered loads of magnetic sheet, rare earth magnets, guitar wire, plastic rod, plasticard, and textured plasticard (with plating grill patterns and rivets). It's gonna be a massive project and I'll make it an ongoing WIP blog here on Dakka. I'm also working on my Krieg Armegddon Basilisk right now.

I plan to chop up the guys sitting down holding rifles as I imagine they will be one peice. I need the arms off so i can model them operating the control panels on the shadowswrd command deck.

Expect to see more very soon.

With the absence of Missile Launchers in the Death Korps range I have been thinking of making my own (always has been one of my favourite weapons).  Keeping with the 'germanic' feeling I plan to use the steel legion missile launcher as a basis (it is based on a Panzerfaust 3 in real life I think).

It is too large to work properly with the more realistic proportions of the Death Korp figures. So I am hoping to make a smaller version out of plasticard and mould it. I might well alter the fins on the missile head as they look too 'clunky'.

What do you guys think ? ... do you think it would fit well with the Death Korps image or are there other launchers in the IG range which would work better?

Dang; these guys are good! I like how you captured the falling motion of the jumping over the wall guy. And you will be doing a whole IG army like this!?
Anyhow the rocket launcher is a little big; length is fine but the missile needs to be about half that size.

He is modeling it after the Panzerfaust. Unlike the American bazooka (and the German panzerschreck) , it did go through the tube, but was a big explosive charge at the end of it.

Below you will see pictures of each.

Hi Argos, the only thing that I would say about missle launchers comes from a fluff point of view. I had heard that Krieg won't use missle launchers as they don't trust them. Apparently the reasons why this is are to be expanded in the next Imperial Armour.

Of course if you want to ignore the "offical" background and just make cool minis then yeah you should do it. You can always justify the reasons yourself. I think this style of missle launcher would be best, deifnately the standard GW stuff is way out of properotion with the nicer features of krieg models (I found this out myself when trying to convert my Commissar). Plasticard and Plastic Rod with some green stuff for the explosive charge would work well.

Or you could use the mortar shell from the Krieg artilery crew set. Then just stick some thick plastic rod to the end and make little plasticard fins. Would work really nicely as you'd have a good quality detailed resin explosive charge.

I really like the RPG-type launcher.

If the Krieg don't like missile launchers, perhaps making an AT rifle would be more fitting?

Let me start by saying this stuff is awesome. I'm jealous of the fact that you have these fantastic models and that you have the skill to make them your own.

Your faust gunner is great, but unfortunately due to the heroic scale GW uses the weapon looks too small. Even though the forgeworld minis do seem to be created in a more accurate scale I think they still need to utilize the ridiculously sized weapons more common to this game. It still looks good though. I don't know if it would even be worth trying to make just a slightly bigger faust when you've got one that works right there.

...plus I'm really, really drunk.
