Yay, looking great as usual dude! I still really like the color of your armor on them! thry all look great together, the power sword looks nuts! i've never seen one done quite like that before! also the little tac arrow on the helmet is nicely done and a bit different!

Your painting skills are very crisp and you show great talent.

it is unforunate that the end effect is really hindered by the obvious mould lines on your backpacks, arms and legs.
You should really take the 3 odd minutes per model it would take to file these off...it is really spoilin your otherwise great looking force.

Well, mold lines aside as that's sort of a known issue - let's look at the painting.

I love the different markings and iconography used. The sword is rather nice and I like that sort of sparking effect with it.

Looks excellent, especially that pw lightning display. I second removing mould lines, it takes time but they will bug you if you leave them, IMO.

It's not that i'm trying to be nitpicky. You just have a really good natural talent and I want to see you paint as well as you can!
It's important to see model prep as not something seperate to painting, but as important as any painting technique you can learn.

Just your skills have clearly progressed beyond beginner painting now. And you are moving into upper-intermediate painter, and at the skill levels you are reaching things like mould lines will become more and more of an issue.

if you were just a beginner level still I wouldn't bug you about your mold lines

Hey guys, I assembled the captain and command squad today, so far i've only scraped the mold lines off the captain, and with the the slight pose readjustment, I think he looks great!


EDIT- After looking at the pic, I still need to do the captains storm bolter arm.

Captain pose-a-lot for the win! he looks excellent like that, regal and forceful nice job! looking good minus mold lines too :-) he's gonna be the best you've painted i reckon dude! because I bet you'll take more time with him as you've already spent more time on him! mark my words dude he'll be a winner!

Hey guys.
Today I got the captain t owhat i call the "based-black" stage. I also added miscellanious tidbits to both him and his command squad.
Also, if you guys follow Nerdfest09s blog you may've noticed that he's goingt to paint a marine for me! So, I had to return the favour, Nerdfest, here's the marine i'm going to paint in your chapter's colours:
EDIT: I also readjusted the company champs sword to the stereotypical position, I didn't like the previous pose.

Niiice :-) Nerdfest marine looks languid and powerful! as all good nerdfests should look! I can't wait to see how these guys look with some paint on them! the poses are really,really good, I like the fact that you can get them to look so different without going crazy and converting and sculpting new bits! you have quite a talent for it Matt, seriously!

And thank you for returning the favor! I appreciate the gesture! gonna look good glaring over the battlements at my paint station urging me to do more! :-) painting an Ultramarine is going to be really fun the more i think about it! I'll paint him up third on the list at this stage for you dude!

I'm looking forward to painting the exemplar up too! Do you think Adeptus Battlegrey then a wash of badab black is close enough to your colour scheme? That's the way I invisage myself doing him up with the red arms and helmet of course (i want him to be important )

Yep, i'd say that may work well for the scheme, it'll at least be pretty darn close :-) and important is good, especially as i kinda like the way you do your red helmets!

I highlighted the captain and did his eyes, delighted with the result.

Holy Gak dude, you be gettin' good bro! those lenses are top notch! the paint is neater and cleaner and highlights are really nice! man, you're doing some great painting at the moment! enough hanging out on dakka just get that darn brush out and finish him!

speaking of ultramarines, i bought ultramarine blue and it seems very light in colour? I'm not sure it's going to look right for me when i paint yours up for you? do use the straight colour or do you mix your own shade?

I use Mordian Blue (foundation) and then use a wash of Asurmen blue, they look great together, and are pretty dark (the right depth for battle hardened bio engineered supermen!)
So yeah give that a try
