I recently dug out my small Dark Angels force from my parents basement and want to put it through its paces again, but in the new rules, the DA's all have bolt pistols.  I know from the RAW that there is a notion that they are pretty much useless, but how does this work with WYSIWYG?  I'm not going to model bolt pistols on all of my marines, and I gather that Chaos is soon to be in the same boat.  What is the general consensus on this issue?

They also come with frag and krak grenades, those marines are going to get pretty busy.

Typically, I only use WYSIWIG with things that don't come standard, like plasma guns. Anything the model comes with, I don't really worry about.

i agree with the O man standard equipment is one thing special weapons are another story

i do require at least one marine to have a melta bomb tho if they have them but with the new codex rules its only one model anyway

If I were starting a DA army from scratch, I'd probably try to model the bolt pistols on each figure, but if I already had an existing army, I probably wouldn't bother, and wouldn't giver anyone flak for not doing it themselves. Do they even give you enough pistols in the DA boxed sets?

Someone suggested making a base with piles of bolt pistols and grenades you can put on the table somewhere. I think it would be good for a laugh.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

As a practical matter, WYSIWYG is just so your Plasmaguns don't turn into Meltaguns half way through the battle.

IMO.

Altho it is cool when even basic troopers are converted nicely.

If a model has a holster, I guess it could be anything you wanted.

I made such a pile for an objective marker once. My Tau were confused and thought they were looking for an Imperial cache.

If I was going to do anything, I'd just give the model a holster.  For the most part, if I'm getting serious about WYSIWYG with something like a bolt pistol (assuming the model has his hands full) I'll just give them a holster.

For normal marines, I wouldn't worry about it (especially if they're already done).

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I don't bother with WYSIWYG with standard equipment, any marine with bolt pistol and ccw may end up with two bolt pistols it looks good.

My assault marines have two models with flamer pistols and chainswords, because they also look better. Not old flamer pistols too, but conversion jobs using IG flamers and bolt pistol parts.

Hey if its not WYSIWYG then its not legal! All your chaos and DA armies are belong to us!

Really, who cares, I'd play against you if you were playing with paper chits if they are a decent opponent.

Bingo.  Doing just that for my CSM squads, or at least for the squad of combat nutters.  I figure hey, maybe they'd want to shoot some bolters instead, so I'll give them a 40mm base with loads of bolters on it ftw.

Maybe I'll develop Codex: Paper Chits

They can have a deck of playing cards as heavy support that you can fling card by card for a rapid fire attack, or just bend the deck and shoot it all at once.

Maybe some lemon juice to rub in the paper cuts as wargear.

But yeah, glad to hear that no one would really kick up a fuss about it.

Good idea Samwise but to be tourney legal it has to be with GW supplied paper and ink. Now back to that sarcasm thread...
