Where ever I am...

Now quick question...Iv heard that there are rules for the LOTD Space Marines in the 2nd edition rules where you can take them as allies...but how that doesnt fit the fluff as in to where they appear into battle unknowingly and just tear havoc in to the enemies of the Empire.  Now, Iv never heard them use anything such as sniper, vehicles, so on and so fourth...but is it possible to make a LOTD Space Marine army using the doctrines given in the SM Codex, and field an army of nothing but LOTD Marines...or am I just lookin for something I cant find?

When was it cool to not be a Marine?

"Marines has to be hard, they don't love, they feel no fear, they are ready to die for the Emporer and are basically killing machines! It would be hard for the readers to sympathise with the characters....I appreciate this, but unfortunately, thats the Marines!" Delephont

Good old LotD - *points to sig pic!* - actually got unofficial rules in White Dwarf for 3rd edition too. They were one of the Cursed Foundings, which basically amounted to a restricted list of choices from C:SM to choose from, no ATSKNF, and an upgrade that cost X points per model/squad/dread/vehicle that did something special. I think the LotD upgrade allowed the entire army to deep strike, including vehicles. They all get an inv save too, I think 6+ (including vehicles?)

The rules are in Chapter Approved 2004, or the original WD (260?) if you've got it. I'm sure your friends would let you run the rules if you can get them.

Well see, if I can get my hands on some of the rules, which right now, Im about to leave for Iraq on Sunday, I dont have the best ways of getting WDs or any books...SO I guess Ill just have to wait till later, cause Iv never seen a Legion of the Damned army played by anyone, and I think itd be cool (because of the fluff) to play and paint.

You're off to Iraq.....I gotta say, your choice of vacation spot really sucks seriously though, I'm sure someone from here could scan you a copy and email it to you!

Check this:

Was at my FLGS playing fantasy, and a chaos dwarf player wandered over. We got to talking about the new C:CSM (he's boycotting), and he said the best thing might be that now he could play his Legion of the Damned again! Mark of Tz gives standard marines a 5+ inv and characters / termis a 4+ inv ... He was suggesting that was all the old rules were anyways (he forgot about the whole 'entire army teleports' bit), so was kinda excited. Given the similarity of the new C:CSM and C:SM, you've got most the options you could want for a 'lost legion' with restricted levels of tech and supplies - lord / sorc for leaders, CSM and havoks for tacticals and devastators, chosen for vets, dreads for dreads, termis for termis, raptors for assault marines, bikes for bikes (2+ turbo save!), preds for preds, raiders for raiders, vindis for vindis.

So there's another route

That is a ridiculously cool idea. I've always wanted to put together a LOTD army, and this gives it come neat rules.

Was inspired further, so whipped up a list ...

HQ
Lord - MoT, lightning claw, twin-bolter, terminator armor = 145

Elites
4 Terminators - MoT, reaper autocannon, 2 powerfists = 200

Troops
10 CSM - MoT, plasma gun, heavy bolter, vet w/ powerfist = 255
10 CSM - MoT, plasma gun, heavy bolter, vet w/ powerfist = 255

Heavy Support
Vindicator - demonic possession = 145

1000 points

Bam! Not real psycho hot, but brings the dakka and has units I'd want to buy & play
Also would only need 2 tactical boxes, 1 terminator box, 1 vindicator box to do it up, plus whatever you want to do to convert them to Legion.
