Thanks for the interview, Abnett continues to be a good guy as well as a decent writer. Makes me look forward to Legion, and miss his work in comics.

I actually stopped buying Legion of Superheroes when he stopped writing it.

He reads Kelly Link. Nice.

I liked his perspective on the brutality question. I totally agree. I just read Night Bringer and if it had not had the anchor characters of Uriel and the Inquisitor I would have been lost in the brutality. It is good to have heroes in the 40k universe; especially from humanity because the rest of their background is so dark. I think the statement that is the best fit from the book is on a hero's gravestone, "Each man is a spark in the darkness, would that we all burn as bright."

I think he meant the upcoming book in the Hours Heresy series "Legion" focusing on, hurrah!, the Alpha Legion...

I know what he meant. No relation between my comment and his :-)

But the comment is true. The Legion has been worthless without Abnett.

Good stuff. Glad he answered so many of my questions.

His Legion was OK, but for me nothing will ever be as good as the Giffin/Bierbaum Legion of the early 90s.

Its difficult to compare the two. The Giffin/Bierbaum period started with a really radical redefinition of the visual style of the Legion to make it look like a sci-fi setting. Holographic displays, a complete iconography for signs, even a semi-consistent architectural style.

The Annual he did with Computo (his first story IIRC) was breathtaking

Giffin also wrote the incredibly excellent Darkseid series and how do you do something better than that?

He redefined the series and Abnett then works inside that modified universe and so his work, no matter what its individual merits, will always be seen as having less impact.

I really need to go get a copy of that Darkseid series in paperback.

Dan is currently doing the writing for the Texas Chainsaw comic books.

He's also doing Nova, and I think Annihilation at Marvel. It's definately worth checking out if you enjoy sci-fi superheroes in space.

I'll have to pick up a copy of Texas Chainsaw Massacre if he's writing it.  I miss getting my comics from you, Q.
