They do look rather Jackal like compared to the burlier wolf like antipodes of now. He is a good looking Black Back!

Work progresses on the other two Antipodes. I got their base coats pretty much done tonight. Basing and a few details are all that remain. I got a bit distracted though and painted a Mantic figure. I was planning on doing this guy as a stretch goal, so I am going to count him for this month's painting challenge.

Yeah, that's The Survivor, from the original Deadzone Kickstarter. I really liked the look and the fluff for this guy. He was one I was really looking forward to painting. Low and behold though, when I got him, his casting sucked. I think among the mercenaries, he turned out the worst. Most of his details were soft and I couldn't tell what what part of his suit was the uniform and what was the armor, the casting was so soft. For some reason, I had an urge to try painting him though. So, I buckled down and this was the result. Despite how horrible his cast was, I'm actually really pleased with my results. He actually looks decent now. I did wind up purchasing the metal version during the second pledge manager because I was so disappointed with what I got. I'll have to track it down and slap some paint on that one as well one of these days.

The Survivor was one of the best models from DZ1. I really dig your take on him- the bright orange hazmat suit really pops. Are you thinking of doing more old DZ stuff?

I think he should do more DZ1 stuff, so we then have a good excuse to actually play the game!

Between the two of us we probably could make a very VERY dense board.

The burning question would then be which faction do we each play? We both have a smattering of every faction painted.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

I have the same problem-- I went all in on DZ1, including all the PMs, leaving me with giant piles of restic and some marital stress as a result.

Yeah I'm not entirely sure how I spent as much on dz1 as I did...

Awesome survivor the white and orange work really well.

Yeah Barzam, the color scheme matches his background story so much! You really did great work making details pop out via painting them to fix the mold issues.

You mean like.... BLAINE!!!!

Thanks for the kind words about The Survivor, guys. His cast sucked so much. I was worried I'd never be able to pull him off. For whatever reason though, the first Deadzone really clicked for me and hit pretty much all of the right buttons. I wound up going heavily into it, too. I don't think I went as heavily as Highlord Tamburlaine, but I went in pretty heavy regardless. None of Mantic's other Kickstarters have really grabbed me like that one did.

Blaine, btw, would be my second stretch goal of the month. See, I completed my challenge. The whole Assault Pack is now finished.

And, here's the whole team.

While hunting for my Blaine figure, I found a Zpocalypse figure I'd started and never finished, so I finished him tonight, too. This is the Zpocalypse Scientist from their second Kickstarter.

Blaine looks good!

Antipodes of the jackal type also looking good!

Scientists in hazmat suit with a Grenade Launcher? Looks good, but watch out! he is a scientist, not sure how good his aim is!

Blaine does, indeed, look nice. I really like those dog/coyote guys. Those are Infinity figs, right? The Infinity aesthetic doesn't really do much for me, but the dog-soldiers guys are really tempting.

Yeah, the Antipode Assault Pack is from Infinity. Mine is the old version, which is out of production now. I like it, but the new version looks much, much cooler.

So, I got a bit distracted. Instead of painting Mantic figures like I intended, I wound up painting six Eldar Howling Banshees. whoops.

Nice banshees, Barzam .

To be honest, I get a wee bit frustrated with Mantic minis paint-wise. Don't get me wrong, they're lovely models. I just HATE prepping them for paint. GW has spoiled me lol.

I like the red on the banshees. Makes me think of Martians for some reason. Maybe the helmets. No clue why.

Say what you will about Mantic, but there's something cathartic about going at them with a blade and teaching them a thing or two about proper presentation!

Eh, it's hit and miss when it comes to prepping Mantic figures. Some are super easy, some aren't. For instance, I've never had any issues with the restic Corporate Troops. Never had to clean anything, even. Then, some items, like pretty much all of the Dreadball minis I've handled have been absolutely terrible to clean up. It varies.

I couldn't resist, I did one more Eldar today.

Technically he's not actually an Eldar since he's not a GW figure, but whatever. He's clearly supposed to be one. I think these were called Howling Wolves or something. Chapterhouse made them. I have a full set, but I've been even slower to paint them than I have my actual Eldar.

I did paint actual Mantic figures though, like I'm supposed to be doing.

Here's a zombie.

Great stuff lately! I especially like the colors for the banshees. The jackalpodes look pretty sinister and sneaky.

I see that Barzam uses a "warm colors" approach for most of the projects, like his Morats cannot be confused with mine as I use "cooler/colder temp colors" for mine.

Huh. I Hadn't even noticed it, but You're right. I do tend to go more for warmer colors. For some reason, cooler color schemes tend to give me problems. I can't ever seem to blend or highlight them properly. I think my problem with those colors lies in the fact that the blue washes I have kind of suck compared to the rest.

That's a nice batch of stuff. That not-Banshee is a very nice model-- if I still played 40K I would have to pick some up. Also, putting that zombie on tiptoes was a great choice. It looks like he's sneaking up on someone to bash them over the head with that rifle.

Does Chapterhouse still exist? They're the ones who made the Manshees. I don't play 40k, and look how many Eldar I've painted in the last few days! And I've got more to come! I'm actually thinking about paring down my Eldar. Probably going to dump the Finecast and plastics and keep the metals. If they see any table action, it's going to be in small numbers anyway, so I might as well cut down on the number of them that I've got.

I didn't do too much today though, hobbywise. Mostly I spend the evening prepping and priming stuff. I did finally get to work on my test run for my Martian Orbital Fusiliers from Anvil Industry. I have to say, I'm very happy with how it turned out.

I think he'd make a good Mechanicus Explorator. I'll probably have him hanging out with the rest of my Skitarii and robots.

I also painted up this guy!

He's a Xin Warrior Monk from The Ion Age. He's pretty much the equivalent of a Terminator for the Xin faction. I got him as an impulse buy mostly to see how I like the sculpt. It turns out I like it a lot. They're chunky little figures for 15mm. I'll need to get four more to have a game legal unit though.

I know Chapterhouse is still online, but need to contact them to see if they are still in business. Looks like some of what they sold got reduced as FW made stuff for modding SM miniatures. I liked their slamander add ons, but now that FW makes it, I guess part of the court agreement was for them to cease if GW/FW made the accessories and such.

Anvil guys look good! Is that a Plasma rifle?

Xin warrior looks big for 15mm, that is heavy armor

Anvil calls that rifle a Tesla Disintegrator. I'd like to think it's basically just a fancy las rifle or human scaled Lightning Rifle like the Thallax have.

The Xin guy is supposed to be in heavy armor. The monks are pretty much analogous to Space Marine Terminators while the regular Xin troops, the Sanbao, are more or less equivalent to regular Space Marines.

What Eldar stuff you have taking up space? I might be interested in some of it. MIGHT.

Anvil Guy looks good. Reminds me of your Ion Age color schemes.

You interested in some Frostgrave Gnolls? I might order a box today. Maybe we can split one....

I'm looking to get rid of my Dire Avengers, War Walker, and most likely all of my Howling Banshees except the metal ones. I'm undecided about my Rangers and Fire Dragons at the moment. I'm thinking of paring down my undead as well.

I would be interested in Frostgrave Gnolls. I just don't have any room for them.

I banged out a couple more figures tonight.

First, the plastic Commissar that came in my Start Collection Scions box.

The other figure was another Deadzone Mercenary. This time, it was Nastanza.

I had no clue what color to paint her, so I went with pretty much the same simplistic scheme I did on my Dark Eldar Kabalites. I think it works, despite its simplicity.

Great stuff you've been doing. I really like that Anvil figure, and that DeadZone mercenary looks too good to be a Mantic figure. I thought it was an Infinity figure at first. Cool looking Banshees as well!
