These are the first models of a large squat army project I'm working on for a client. Original metal and plastic squat models down to the exo suits and bikers, reinforced with forgeworld artillery and some vehicle conversions.

More to come soon.

and to give you an idea of what's to come:

Excellent color scheme. That is going to be one fantastic looking army when it is completed. Please continue posting as many pictures as possible.

Sweet. Squats FTW.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

That was the first thing I thought of when I saw it, too.  Can't wait to see more on this.

the squats predate my introduction to the hobby (circa 93) so they look kinda silly and aged to my eye.

The tank does look really interesting and it will be fun to follow this and get more familiar with the figures.

Sorry about the delay on these, things got delayed a bit while I was waiting on a new airbrush needle.

First off, I've got a couple of new pictures,

I think the white may be coming out a bit too strong, it's actually only a light gray, but everything else is so dark it looks white. I'll probably be replacing that with a darker gray color.

More pictures of these are up in the gallery

Everything else is moving along well, I'm expecting to start posting pictures of finished units after the weekend.

These are all out our Standard level, though I'll be doing one of two of the characters at a higher level.

yeah that grey is a bit too light. Looking very cool so far though. The red gradient on the sentinel is rather nicely done.

Thanks. I've been experimenting with using an airbrush to do some shading and weathering effects, much of the shading on those models was done that way. I used a kind of custom transparent paint/ink I've been working with in layers using black and a sort of rust brown.

Hello all,

My name is John and I am the proud owner of said squat army that Painter6497 has been so dillegently working on.

It was after discussin the project with a few providers that I went with Painter's services, he has been quick to deliver, has an excellent system for handling and painting the army quickly and reporting with great photography, and has been totally willing (even with my constant badgering) to be completely flexible to my requests.

I wouldnt trust this army with anyone else, and I am glad, I can paint a hundren models in a sitting, but with all my current projects, I was happy to have some professional help getting this force up and running, instead of rotting on my shelf...

wait till you see the exo-suits and characters...

I have loved assembling this army over the last year... some of this is really getting hard to find.

Out of curiosity, I would love some insight and ideas how to field them: Here are some thought for some of you oldtimers:

Standard force: IG
Doctrines: Adeptus Mechanicus, drop troops (tunnelers), heavy support squads, and other morale hightening picks
Special forces: Exo suits (grey knights), Warlord, Living Ancestor, Hearth Guard (Inquisitor and Retinue), Squat Bikers (Rough Riders)

I am running out of ideas at the moment for good looking tank modifications, some thoughts are walking leman Russ's and more exaggerated turrets for vehicles to maintain the style...
and the cream of the crop, building a Capital Imperialis out of a Baneblade...

Capital Imperialis

Would make a nice display board...

I think you're spot on with the IG and Inq forces.

Tech priest is a less than optimal Doctrine to take, but you can't possibly leave the squat teck priest out.

PM if you need any more exo-armor or bikers

yeah, the tech preist is a must, and it allows for heavy plasma and multi meltas in the army (think of the squat range)

lots of heavies with cool heavy weapons

Wow is that impressive ...

Loving the converted demolisher for these stunties, and the plan to use the Exos as grey knights. The painting is looking solid, I dig the fisty squat particularly.

Looking for people with solid ideas on how to do Imperial Termites for the squats, or better yet... ideas for conversion of chimeras... and leman Russ battle tanks.

How much work are you willing to do? Are you looking for easy conversions or are you willing to tackle VERY DIFFICULT stuff?

I can think of one idea... simple idea, really... but it could be a serious pain to pull off.

Make your Chimera's into "Chop tops."

Cut a portion off of the tank in the middle, so that they have a lower profile. Squats don't need that much head room.
This could also be a good start on doing a Termite, if you can find a drill/cone to mount to the front.

The smaller the tank, the less drilling that needs to be done. Therefore, the more efficient the Termite. Of course, cyndrilical would be even more efficient... but I'm figuring that you probably want to keep the Imperial Look.

There's a great tunneler in the APOC book for reference.

The tunneler itself should be relatively easy for you to make once you've found a front end drill.

The bridge layer conversion on the GW site might give you some ideas for the chimera carrier.
