So after a few suggestions and browsing around I've spotted a few inspiring converions and have now begun creating my own ad mech army. I know none of it will be up to the standard of other conversions out there but as long as i'm happy with it frankly i don't care! Suggestions are welcome....
So first stop is the shops!
To start with (forgot green stuff doh!) I'm starting with the basics of a knight made from the defiler. The other unused half of the defiler will be made into a walking tank at a later date, possibly a hell hound. For now the knight will 'count as' a leman russ.
Legs - these are made from the front claws. The chasis needs chopping just in front of the engine hatch to create the pelvis.I'm currently debating the toes. I think I'll leave the cut down blades as they are but bulk them out with green stuff.

Ok, the problem here is that you've tried to call on files stored in your hard-drive.
The code you used to call on your pictures is correct, but you can't tell my computer to pull images up off your home computer.
So here's what you need to do:
Start an account here: http://photobucket.com/
Now add the desired files from your hard-drive to that photobucket account.
Then you can link them to this page using the html code (without the % symbols I've added for illustration):

Hey- I like that assault Sgt. Nice blending on the power ax. The ready stance combined with the screaming head makes it look like he's yelling orders instead of wildly yawning like most marines do.
I'm not sure I dig the pink powercable on the back of the ax, but it could be the way the photo turned out. Still- too much colour on the ax draws the eyes away from the model's body and head, which should be the focal point.

Thanks, I think the photos made it brighter, the cable is actually more purple and doesn't look too bad in real life.
anyway... have started on the ad mech troops, using the cadian torso and high elf archer legs.
http://s273.photobucket.com/albums/jj216/covenant84/ad%20mech/?action=view¤t=IMGA0009.jpg
Where the legs are visible I've just covered up with green stuff and have green stuffed over those pointy feet to create some boots for them. Have also filled the gap between the torso and legs where the top of the legs has been removed (it seemed slightly too tall and was slightly rounded whereas the cadian torso is a flat join) The eagle symbol has also been removed from the chest plate. Will probably green stuff over the eagle on the guns as it's in a more akward place to remove with the hand being so close.

nice start. if you're looking for more troops, I thougth the non-cadian shock troopers would fit in very well in an Ad Mech army.
about a year ago someone here posted some very cool conversions for an ad mech army. since I forgot who that someone was, I'll post the pitures I saved on my PC. maybe you get more inspiration from there. and whoever buld those guys, great work.
edit: did I get that rgiht from drake? yopu can't see he pictures if I attacj them directly from my PC?

OK, have been working away and here's where I am now...
foot troops:
leg green stuffing...
shoulder detail
stuck together
first batch painted
I would have liked to give them hooded heads but in the end decided against it, my attempts at hoods were quite poor and with the time I have i decided against it. Really can't be spending hours and hours green stuffing things, i would like to play a game at some point lol!
A nice surprise i had (not very often with GW) was that in the elf archers (16 models) they actually supply 20 legs! there's an option of having a front row kneeling. Improoves numbers and money spending a long way and also has the added effect of less work needed on the heavy weapon teams adding the 'skirts' on myself.
as for the knight:
legs:
torso
Standing
I'll be starting on tidying it up and detailing it more in the near future. The toes need builking out and I want to add some sort of ammo hopper to the battlecannon, it doesn't look right at the moment. The bolters hopper is not the proportions I had in mind but it will do as far as I'm concerned. HAd a good rumage through my bits and that's the best I could come up with. Like I said, I want to play with them rather than spend hours and hours getting them looking like they do in my mind. As long as the characters there it'll do for now.

I dont like the heavy bolter arrangement, you would be better with three in a row, its deep enough because of the huge ammo bin. The top bolter looks to added on and doesnt have a proper ammo feed.
A row of three heavy bolters will set better on the ammo bins too. If you nee anything on top to bulk it upwards add a targeting occulus.
For the battlecannon add a magazine directly underneath the stock. You need a shell casing ejector too. A lazy and safer option would be to replace the barrel end with something to indicate its an energy weapon.

I did have a play with the bolter arrangement. The three in a row was causing modeling problems giving a strong attachment to the shoulder guard while keeping the pose (not that obvious from the photo). It also seemed just two wide and 'flat' and linear compared to the rest of the model. Also tried having ammo feeds hanging down and feeding into a box behind the guns but this stuck out the back far too much. Will be adding a central feed in a bit later with some of the details. I'll also add the cog/skull to the front of the hoper to draw the eye towards the centre, hopefully this should take away some of the large 'blockyness' of it.
Targeting array sounds good, will look into that. The centre of the top doesn't fit right with me at the moment anyway.
had forgooton ejector casing thanks! will keep it as the standard battle cannon as I'm intending it to 'count as' a leman russ as many of my current opponments are v. new to the game and don't want to go complicating it with structure points etc. just yet.
as an aside, rules wise what to people think about using it as a leman russ but having it as a walker? I think this would make much more sense but don't want to go through the VDR as things tend to come out over priced (for reasonable reasons). The benefits of the walker I think would be offset by it's size. Many terrain features that would conceal a russ wont conceal this, it's at least 6" tall, maybe a little more, havn't measured yet.
Thanks for the comments, keep them coming!

Have now added some green stuff bits and had a general tidy up. Most doesn't show in the pictures. Will have a last play, texture the base and undercoat tonight and hopfully get most of the painting done over the weekend. Pictures are 'pre tidy'
attempts at improving the look of the battle cannon. It's not perfect but it'll serve the pupose for gaming with. Finding it difficult to spend as much time as I'd like getting it right but it's not a 'display' army.

Thanks for the comments!
Snorkle: the next 5 guardsmen are undercoated and waiting for a gap in my usy life to get a bit of colour into their plain faces. Will be moving onto either a command squad or heavy weapon squad after that I think. Next vhechle will either be a 4 legged hellhound from the spare defiler bits or a demolisher( hull mounted cannon, with a dozer (posibly the vanquisher one, with an 'atlas' style crane thing on the back. Was thinking it would be a working machine that could double up as a weapon of war, inspriation came from 'Eisenhorn'
jamessearle0: The grille (sorry to dissapoint Anung Un Rama) is one of the engine covers from the baneblade, I thought it was a shame to cover the detail up (especially at £60!) so left the covers of mine. Shoulder pads - something that took me a long think to come up with an answer (It's surprisingly hard to get decent plasticard around here!) are actually made from the russ sponsons. The front half is the bottom sponson plate and the rear part is the side plate. Hope that makes sense. The battlecannons had the butt sawn off and then mounted on the mount for the defliers ball and chain thing (almost a perfect fit!) and the bolters are attached directly to the shoulder plates using a razorback mount upside down without the round bit. I'm not that happy with the mount as it's totally unrealistic but does give the look I was going for and you can't see the mount on the tabletop anyway...
JohnHwangDD: The arms are a bit stubby but personnaly i think it adds to the pose, at least in real life. With the way the bodies twised slitghtly it does look OK. I have been contemplating ffor the next one to be holding the cannon like a human would hold a gun but that's a long way off yet. What I would say if anyone tries one of these to make sure the pelvis is'nt level. It's something I didn't consider early on as I hadn't figured out how the torso would attach, but if you put it off even just a couple of milimetres it will improve the pose so much! Also check out http://z6.invisionfree.com/adeptusmechanicus/index.php?s=89fee6ef2c14a25df8191ba69dedeb82&showtopic=80 Hortwerths Ad Mechs. These are the ORIGINAL version where i got my inspration and I must say his look a lot better and are far better detailed. I just don't have the time to do this sadly :( I would reconmend working from his design rather than mine, but if you want the 'easy' way then mine only uses a small bit of plasticard for the front toes! The rest (apart from the obvious green stuff) is almost unalatered GW parts. The green stuff is even a 'cheat' too! the small symbol on the bolters if made from a mould of the space marine shoulder pad from the tank sprue(aso used on the troops shoulders) and the large one made from a mould of the symbol on the baneblade engine!
Anyway keep the comments coming. I poped into the local gw with it and they liked it so that makes it worth the time it took to make it in the end. Oh, as a note, GW now do bags of round bases, including two of the dread sized ones. I was after these two weeks ago when i came to do the base. Was gonna join them together and transfer the knight from his square one - couldn't get hold of any thought. Typical GW to release stuff just after you want it! What makes it worse was they were delayed form before Xmas! I bought the whole lot in one go to take advantage of the voucher offer they were running and had to add a book in to make the value up, if only the bases had been availble then
Also other ideas for an admech army are welcome!

i dont use my defiler any more, so i started cutting it up, luckily the legs werent glued, ive just been out to my local "wargames emporium" store and got about ten pounds of bits (think £30 of bits if you mail ordered" im going to detail the interior and ill place the side ramp from a rhino were the battle cannon/mount should go, to allow for the sentinel driver model to be visable, oh and hes haveing 4 old school hunter killer missiles shoulder mounted(2 on each shoulder)
an idea for the legs and cannon, ect. make a stalk tank of some kind, and have the doors "openable" to reveal a small lab, almost like a command tank?? you could alway just count the many legs as a rough terrain modification lemme know what you think if you want a pic o my wip knight just give me a shout

That sounds interesting. I didn't put much thought into that, was going for a 'machine spirit' robot as it was ad mech (assuming they have acess to higher grade spirit as they've got the monopoly hence bs 3 rather than 2). I might have a go at a servitor controlled one when i get around to the next one. Would be great to see pics of yours! Also had a new idea this morning along the lines of a working machine. At some point will make a flatbed truck, (based roughly on a smaller version of the 'mole' truck from the old epic) using the chimera chasis. Sort of transport vhechle for heavy machinery, and then mount an earthshaker on the back as if its been temporaly mounted during a war and count it as a basilisc. May even add a mini forlk lift or something to enhance the 'transport truck' aspect. Have also consisdered a 40k termite (bassed on the one in apocalypse rule book). Not doing it anytime soon thogh. Have the dozer blades for the side armour but they're being used as vaulted roofs on a bfg dock at the moment.

I like the hunters. Always thought they were too thin but boxed up we were friends. Like the new ones but now think they're too short and fat! The claw would make a nice energy weapon. Are you using the piece in the first pic as a leg? That's the bit that i fitted the sawn off battle cannon to. That sounds fun actually, would love to rob a bank with a sawn off battle cannon! hmmmmmmmm......
