Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

They are having a 5 game RTT in Tampa over the weekend of March 15-16.

The cost is $160.00 and that includes a room at the Residence Inn that the tournament is held in for Saturday night.

It will be 1850 points with no comp/painting scores.

Top prize is $1000.00 for the overall winner.

You can read more about it, as well as all of the rules (they have an odd format so it is an interesting read) here:

I should be there.

I am trying to make sure that they have enough people so I get paid.

Regardless of who whom it would be interesting to hear what happened and what went on. I rather like the rules and the format so I'm curious.

I have to do a lot of work for Adepticon and full batreps take forever to write up (Plus I only took pictures of game #4)

I will sum up what happened:

I was playing close to my normal Eldar list

Game #1
The first game was against a Salamanders army that was half drop pod/half shooty. I massacred it.

Game #2 vs. Hod’s IG
Hod took a Mech/Grenadier list, He had:
Jr. Officer in a Chimera
Inq. Lord w/Land Raider
Inq. w/Land Raider
2 Chimeras w/5 Storm Troopers
2 Hellhounds
3 Leman Russes

He blew most of my army off of the table. My Falcons flew around and were getting side shots on his Leman Russes. My harlequins shot his Land Raiders with Fusion Pistols. My fortuned Avatar walked across the board and killed 2 tanks. Minor win for me.

Game #3 against WC_Brian’s Eldar.
He had
Eldrad
10 Harlequins
3x 3 Jetbikes+Warlock w/Destructor (we need to think of a name for this unit since that one pattern is so common)
3x 10 Dire Avengers (Bladestorm)
2x Wraithlord
5 Dark Reapers

It was a really close game, and it came down to a big scrum in the middle of the table, and I ended up with a minor win.

Game #4 against Marc Parker’s Orks
He had
Ghazkull
Big Mekk w/Shock attack gun
2x 15 Lootas
2x 30 Shootas
2x Trukk Boyz
2 Skorchas
2 Loota Wagons.

The mission was who ever had more HQ+Troops wins. (+1 more minor win, +2 more major win, +3 Massacre)

I went first and my fortuned Dark Reapers and his Lootas got into a gunnery duel. He kept his whole army back and just moved his empty vehicles forward.. So at the end of turn 6, I had 2 Guardian squads and my HQs left alive. He had 2 Shootas squads, 2 Trukk squads and his 2 HQs. If the game ended then he would have had a major win. But random game length raised its ugly head and we went another turn and I killed his Big Mekk and one of his squads giving us a tie game.

Around turn #3 we both realized that we should be shooting at the troops. I moved my falcons forward very late because I forgot the victory conditions (I was moving back when they were stunned), and I hit him piecemeal with my assault units. He also made the mistake of shooting at the Dark Reapers instead of just wiping out my Guardians with his Lootas.

Game #5 against Orks
2 Big Mekks w/SAG
Big Mekk w/Shock attack gun
2x 15 Lootas
Boss Snikrot and his 15 boyz
30 Shootas
3x 10 Trukk Boyz
2x 3 Kannons

The mission was VPs+Table quarters with cover giving a +1 more than normal save. I can sum up like this: He hunkered down in cover that gave him a 3+ cover save, and he shot the crap out of me and I had a minor loss.

I did a lot of things wrong (well to be honest, I did not realize the situation I was in until I tried to shoot his Lootas with the Dark Reapers and killed only 2). I still had a shot at tying the game but my Avatar rolled 1” one turn and 3” the next for 2 turns in difficult terrain (yes, that is with a re-roll) and I could not make it to contest a table quarter he owned (at the end of the game we both owned one table quarter and contested our deployment zones).

I had fun and I enjoyed playing the 3 Wrecking Crew guys. I ended up in 2nd place behind the winner Brian that I beat in round #3.

The missions were fun and interesting, and the only complaint that I had was the way that they did the terrain. Each table had 4 LOS blocking pieces (Forest and buildings) and you put them in the center of each table quarter, and then rolled the scatter dice+2D6” to see where the terrain ended up. Then you placed some craters down that were level 1 terrain. So what happened was that you had wide open boards that had no LOS blocking terrain in the middle. So it was basically a shooting gallery.

So, you finally got to play the legend, Marc Parker. Congrats on pulling off a win against him, very impressive. I hope I get a chance to face him in this years GT season.

Well done Blackmoor.

Unfortunately I did not beat Marc, I tied him.

I ended up going 3-1-1 for the weekend, I should have remembered my strategy to either tie or have a minor loss in the first round so I can play the guys at the bottom tables, instead of 4 games of the best players there.

Adepticon is in a month, and I have to figure out a way to deal with Orks. They can out shoot me, and out assault me.

Salamanders...what are these mythical beasts you speak of? (Playing that army is like trying to lose.)

Marc is pretty good. He'd laugh at you if you called him a legend though.

Orks are a serious pain in the ass. I've got like 6 different army lists I've been playtesting (ok, toying with) and can't really decide. Sometimes the shooty one does really well, sometimes the assault one does really well. Bleh on having too many great combinations and not being able to take them all. lol

I thought that Orks just run across the board in a swarm and try to get into assault.

Unfortunately the Orks have an incredible amount of shooting. When you have Lootas+3 Heavy Support, Orks can out shoot a lot of armies.

The Orks I played did not even bother to try to assault me.

Yeah. I've been thinking about that quite a bit. I'll post up my thoughts someplace else (either discussions or army lists I guess) and your (or anybody's) input is welcome.

Stupid orks are so good. Damn you Phil Kelly!!

Blackmoor's army was surprisingly very balanced and he didnt really abuse the codex. My army on the other-hand took the codex and curb-stomped it.

I think im too used to the brutal lists that I see almost daily in Orlando tournaments that it was surprising that I didnt see any real abusive armies outside of mine.

Ah didn't see. It does indeed have major weaknesses.

Two full assault squads with chaps and meltabombs can wreck it pretty badly.

What did you face that killed it?

It's a big rock of an army, but there's enough paper out there to beat it.

Its mostly the low model count and the fact that with vehicles, a glance can shut down its shooting and 3-4 glances can effectively shut down a good portion of your fighting strength. Some of the missions in this tournament did favor infantry in cover with a mission being +1 to coversaves meaning craters make good bunkers for troops and now your fighting an army of +3 covers. The Hellhounds while good are too few and often targeted due to their lesser armor. Believe it or not it was the eldar armies that provided the most trouble for me, lance weapons make mockery of landraiders still and the lack of a psychic hood hurt when a simple eldrich storm killed a landraider. Harlies work good with fusion pistols and a bad roll on VoT means they will run up, shoot and assault you.

Funny thing is I took this army to a pure battle tournament and got so much flak for the army that its just not worth the moaning players will give me for it.

Agreed. 40K isn't a great place for vehicles. A dark future indeed, no car lights!

Oh that's just because everyone plays a metagame where no one in their right mind takes vehicles, so they don't need to take serious anti-vehicle firepower and hate when they get owned because they are playing the wrong army.

Too many whiners like to talk smack then can't handle it when a superior cheddar shows up. What else is new.

I don't mind cheddar in a no-comp tourney. Heck, I expect it.

That is why I played my Eldar, because they can handle a lot of the cheesy armies out there. I was kind of surprised that the lists there were not as bad as I thought they would be.

What I hate is going to a tournament with comp, and playing a totally chessed out WAAC army that is made to crush everything.

Hod's list can be beaten if you have mobility because even if you have inferior weaponry, it lets you get side shots on the weak side armor.

Land Raiders are very different because you need strength 8+ weaponry to beat them, and anything else will just bounce off. With the new codex’s that have been released recently we have seen a great reduction in lascannons/heavy weapons.

So all a Land Raider force has to do is target the few heavy weapons, and then it is just an exercise in dice rolling to see how much stuff that you kill.

I expect more AV14 armies to be made viable in 5th edition (in combination with what blackmoor just said).

I dunno, I've always felt a LR was a bugaboo for me yet I've never really ran into issues with them. Kinda like the defiler, scary but...first turn kills pretty much.

Blackmoor I can't say I fault Marc for making the mistake of targeting your Dark Reapers in lieu of Guardians. Dark Reapers are really even more nasty now with the 3+ armor save. Simply put they are a fantastic unit and very hard to take down quickly now when fortuned. It used to be you could drop pod a dread beside them and vap them with one blast from the heavy flamer and even if the dread died the very next turn it was always worth it.
