So I'm currently putting together a new 40k Ork army, based more on what I like model-wise rather than what makes a competitive army (I hadn't really realised how non-competitive it was until I read the 'Codex Orks Takktiks' thread - most of my army choices are, apparently, the wrong ones!). I started putting a lot of it together before the new codex came out, so some of my original rules workings no longer apply. Under the old 'dex, I was running the idea of a Mek-led force. However, my Big Mek model was based on the Warboss, and just looked too big compared with the Big Mek stats - plus I needed a Warboss for legality. As a compromise, I used the model as a Warboss with a Kustom Shoota, then put a Mek with a KFF in his retinue so the overall effect worked out.
Now, of course, that isn't really viable. I still like my 'Mekboss' model, but couldn't think of a way of using him without the massive KFF on his back seeming ridiculous. However, I just hit upon a simple idea: d'you guys think it would be acceptable to count the massive generator on his back as a Cybork Body, to represent the personal protection it offers?
I'd also love to see images of other models you regularly use that are your responses to similar circumstances - and how much trouble it causes you in games with tetchy opponents.
... I'm also hoping I've put this in the right forum.
This is the greenskin in question: Mekboss Dragnatz! Only a minor conversion, really - some greenstuffed goggles, some extra gun clips on the shoota.. and the aforementioned chuffin' great KFF on his back.

I can't possibly imagine somebody giving you an issue with that.

I think it's fine for "Counts as."
If I was playing against you, it would be a welcome addition to the field, provided that, before the game, you pointed the "counts as" out to me.
FWIW, I wouldn't have a problem with it being a Big Mek, either.

Yeah, I think pointing it out to my opponent beforehand is the way to go. If anything it's overkill really, for a 5+ inv save!

If i get away with saying my cybork 5+ is justified by counting as demonic favor i would hope you have no issues.

Good stuff. The guys at my club are pretty mellow anyways! Variety is the spice of life and all that.

that's given me an idea actually, as I mistakenly modeled my big mek with KFF *and* a shoota before I realized one precludes the other... I'll just count it as the power pack for his cybork body now (saves me 50 points for more tankbustas too!!)

Hah, glad to be of service! I suppose it could work as part of a themed army - anything that can have a cybork body, give a forcefield - looking thing instead!

I like it. I had the idea for a warmek myself for some time now. but if you really wanna do that (and I encourage that idea) you should convert him more. at least give him a giant wrench instead of a choppa.

Hmm... not a bad plan. I don't know if I'd replace the choppa, as it does look awesome, but giving him some tools would certainly be a good idea.

Heh, thanks.
Speaking of other 'Counts As' ideas, I have a Wartrak I put together using the last codex. It has a converted Kustom Mega Blasta on it - D'you reckon it would be reasonable to use it as a Rokkit Launcha?
This is the only picture I could find, and it's not that clear.
