Subject: Thousand Sons - The Inferno Bolt Project

Ok, so me and my friends set ourselves a challenge a year ago, to come up with a Land Raider conversion, themed into our armies. I have a pure Thousand Sons army (based off the old CSM Codex, before they made a hash of the new one). So I have 9 man squads for everyhting, few heavy weapons, but losts of Bolter Fire. Inferno Bolts were an upgrade for Aspiring Champions, giving them a blast template for their bolter rounds. I decided I wanted my Land Raider to carry my 9 Terminators. So with the VDR, this would now have to be a Warmachine. Here's the basic concepts:
I measured the space between the tracks on a Land Raider - Its 5cm and carries 5 Terminators. So my Land Raider had to be 9cm wide between the tracks to carry 9 Terminators.
X2 Twin Lascannon Sponsoons was not in the theme of my army, so I decided on x2 Twin linked Heavy bolter per sponsoon. After trialing this, it became apparent it didn't have the range for our big tables, so they became long barrelled, and I decided to give them blast templates, like the Inferno Bolt upgrade for Thousand Sons, and The name of my tank suddenly appeared ! I used the Forgeworld Prometheus Kit for the Sponsoons.
No warmachine should be without an anti-tank capability, so Twin Long Barrelled Las Cannon, and a Twin Reaper Auto Cannon (off the Defiler).
Styling - Forgeworld Thousand Sons Doors, Forgeworld Chaos Land Raider Tracks (I needed 2 packs - more later), Forgeworld Spaced Armour.
Armour - Forgeworld armour is for Imperial Tanks, so off came the Imperial Eagles, and replaced with the Yellow Chaos Star (Green Stuff). The Tank was then done with the Arrows in Gold (Plasticard & Green Stuff).
Bling - I decide to take the tank to the next level and add working lights. The 4 lights at the front are Red flashing LED's. The holes in the top of the track sections have painted tracks inside, covered with aluminium mesh, and I've added a blue flashing LED in each one, so the tracks glow inside. The Rear Engine, I removed the plastic Grill and replaced it with Aluminum mesh so you can see through. I then took the Land Raider Engine peice, and mounted it underneath, so you can see the engine from the outside through the mesh, and there's a blu flashing LED in there as well. The Interior is modellend with Tomb Kings Skeletons comming out of the walls / floor, etc, and there's flashing lights inside as well. The Circuits are housed in the track peices, the battery in the oppositre trac peices, and the doors magnetically attached, hiding the switch on the right hand side!
To make it wider I used Plastic Card and green stuff. You need x2 Forgeworld CSM Track kits, because they only supplier you with enought Land Raider tracks to cover what you can see. Obviously I needed more in order to detail the tracks on top of the tank, and to do underneath the tank. Forgeworld don't supply enought tracks to complete the underside of your tank !
It works out as an Armour 14 F/S 13R warmachine with 2 structure points, pluss the weapons . . . .555 points.
Anyway, here's the pics.

This is a truly amazing conversion. Do you have any pics of the LEDs lighting up?

Really sharp execution! That is very nice. I like the skeletons rising from the deck. The detail work on the treads is cool as well, not to mention all the iconography on the tank itself. This model makes me want to collect thousand sons even more now!
One thing; it looks like you are taking pics with the flash? I think we are losing some of the detail in the paint job. It would be nice to see some pics with good light and no flash. I think this must look even better than it does here, and that's saying a lot.
Great job.

Oaky Doaky, here's ones without the flash. As for the LED's, I tried, but because they flash, its hard to get them on film !

Very cool work, but I don't know about the skeletons. They're supposed to have no bodies, be all ghosty and such I thought.

"Very cool work, but I don't know about the skeletons. They're supposed to have no bodies, be all ghosty and such I thought. "
The Tomb King Skeletons fit in with the Thousands Sons Eygiptian Feel. My Aspiring Champions all have Tomb King Skeleton Heads. In the Background, only the troops have no bodies, so all my Socerer's (Champions) have tomb King heads, as they've been around +20 Millenium. All my other tanks have Skeleton crew wired into them.

Great work, man. That's quite a chunk of points for that sucker, but well worth it for the sheer "wow factor".

Fantastic, mate! The paint job is incredible and the modeling is flawless. Personally, I dig the use of the skellies. Very nice!

Its patience what makes it look like a kit. Seriously. I've done tank conversions before, but you always end up with either large flat panels, and uneven patches where greenstuff has been used. This time I took the time to file and sand down all the green stuffed edges and add some texture to the panelling, with smaller panels of plasticard ontop of one another.

What thickness plasticard did you use for the smaller panels? 0.5 mm?

2/3mm for the main parts and then .5mm for the detail.
