The whole thing weighs less than 2 pounds.

All apendages are pink foam and they are quie stable when made from one continous pice.

All chittin is made form card stock.. the same density as in the GW packaging. The back plates are made form a land raider box..

The spikes are all made from pink foam..those on the back legs and tail.

early on they were slightly fragile..but afeta coat of elmers (undiluted)... it got real sturdy...

WOW. Scratch building vehicles is one thing, but scratch building a gaint bio-titan AND making it look good is something else entirely. I am inspired

utterly superb, simple (as all the best ideas are) but brilliantly executed. Extra kudos for having the same colour scheme on your 'nids as me.
Is the head from an alien toy?

Yes the head and arms are from the Aliens Queen figure released several years ago. I used the large arms from that toy as the weapon mounts and the head seemed to be the right scale with just enough detail.

This is very impressive. I've always wondered if you could do more stuff like this with pink foam. You have answered that question with an astounding 'Yes!'.

That's totally impressive. I've often wondered how folks could scratchbuild stuff like the 'Nids and Tau have, just because of the organic nature of the 'Nids and the sweeping curves of the Tau. But using the pink foam as the base really shows how it can be done. I could see scratchbuilding a Manta that way where I couldn't see it being done in plastic or card.

About how long do you estimate this took you to make?

Total Time took about two weeks 1 -2 hrs a day.... but you know how gaming is.. from start to finish took about month time.

as for templates.. there are none soory.. i simply eyeballed the pices as i went along, trying to make them look like the FW one using the photos online as refrence.

Exactly, In fact it is really sturdy for game play..just dont let a 2 year old grab it. THe elmers coats realy firm up the shell of the model adding a real exoskeleton so to speak so items that snapped easy before are much more flexible and resistsant to breaking. As i said before its less than two pounds and would not be suprised if it was closer 1lb in fact.
