I see you caved an put foliage on your tree? Are there any more battle pictures?

I just checked out the newest pictures of Logan's Sled, not really impressed. If I had to pick a mode of transportation, given the space wolf options it would be one of their new fliers or a land raider. The more I think about it, it does make total sense that you would like it. It is completely impractical, ridiculous, and yet has a very old school 40k feel to it. Most importantly, no one else likes it, there for you will fall in love with it. I can't wait to see you get one and cover it with corpses and woodland creatures and random other bits and bobs.

WAIT! Give it the pink and yellow treatment. Turn that into an Emperor's Fools chariot. Slap a dreadnought on that and have it pulled by unicorns.

UNICORNS!!!! CHARGE!!!!

It did go through my head what to do with it. the dragging corpses from the corpse cart would do.

Put eyes on the Gal Vorbak today. Holy crap! They are huge and gorgeous. If you need some beast looking Possessed there is nothing better out there. Out of this world good models.

Further news: I traded out a bunch of old stuff for some new stuff. Ice is going to be busy putting together 2 Stormfangs and 3 more drop pods. Bam! I'll take care of the 10 termies and 2 new Space Wolf dreadnoughts. I know I screwed up my bartering because guy just went with what I said. As in zero bartering, just, boy this dude misjudged what he had here. But, oh well.

I also got the new Space Wolves Codex and it screw over quite a few of my termies. My storm shield/pw termies now just can't get off the boat. Sad day. I am not a big fan of retrofitting old models that are already done. (Let's be honest-90% done)

Who has commandeered Moonpie's account!?

You willing obtained more drop pods? Is this to keep your others company in their current unbuilt state? And more terminators? I think may have more of an issue then I do with my jump packs. You really are a dark angel player at heart any way. You play your space wolves like a deathwing army.

Either way I can't wait to get a hold of those new ships. They look cool. I should have them built in no time. I think it may be time to start a small wager as to how long it takes you to actually paint them though.

My guess eighteen months. Oh and that's to a 80% completion. Moonpie never completes a project, as previously mentioned.

Taylor is excited to cut out the parts.

I think these new Termies will concentrate on combi-weapons. I am thinking of combi-meltas and storm shields. Pop out of the pod, blap the baddie and then be in front to take the hit, countercharge with the CC guys.

I take sever umbrage about the Dark Angels comment.. Unfortunately, Logan got changed, so my termies will likely have to be unbound.

That's the plan. I'm building up some termies now. Into the 30s on them I think. The plan is to maybe bring some over to Ice's tomorrow. It's his birthday tomorrow, so be aware.

Maybe he can put together my air force.

I was going to wait for an airbrush to start painting, but who am I kidding? I'm scrambling to keep my power on, I can't invest that much money for the foreseeable future. I do, however, have big rowdy brushes.

Also, has anyone seen the new WFB stuff coming out? Nagash is beast! His LTs are rad! New spirit host models! Too cool! Maybe it can sway some people to the dark side?

I built a Storm Fang Gunship. With my own two hands. I did it to see if I could do it and I can.

Bam! Get some.

And as a warning:

As an addendum to the above post, because I haven't taken a picture in ages(because I don't have a camera), I would just like to post something here that I don't want to post where people actually read it.

Hope I'm not breaking Dakka rules. Breaking my rules by being negative maybe, but it's my bl0rg ain't it?

Quite right, quite right! Passive aggressive mucking about is one of my pet peeves on internet forums, and while I was trying to be somewhat tactful I see that it was a pretty poor and thinly-veiled attempt. So let's fix that now.

This model is bad, for reasons I and others have already stated. Not as bad as the old Nagash model, but bad. I don't quite know why people can look at that pic, avoid seeing the obvious deficiencies, and instead applaud it as a fantastic design. I can only guess that, yes, their judgement is impaired by a number of factors, including:

A) The near-legendary status of Nagash in the real world (of Warhammer players, at least) as well as the WaFaBa world; the poor reception of the previous model (going so far as to 'not count' in some minds, I'd guess) and the long period without an official, in-production model or up-to-date rules. The thing is, the return of Nagash is a fairly momentous occasion in the game (and as desperate as Primarch models: I seem to recall a similar studio attitude about not bringing them [back] in-game because of their sheer power and godlike status. Same reason the C'tan were downgraded to 'shards'.) but that doesn't automatically mean that the long-anticipated model is good. It merely means that the long-anticipated model exists.

B) Passive or even bad attributes that get confused for 'good design'. Size, for one. GW players seem to be especially prone to the old jokey male stereotype that 'big toys are better'; only in this case it gets applied to more literal toys (and hats) rather than cars or power tools.
Also, the misconception that 'covered with detail' = 'good sculpting'. Again, that doesn't indicate that good sculpting is present, only that there's a lot of sculpting present. I've seen non- and ex-GW gamers complain about how the amount of fiddly detail on some GW models takes away the pleasure of painting, and I can't disagree. In addition, there's the nature of the detail: from here it basically looks like gothic or venetian plate armour utterly cluttered and caked with bones. Bonez bonez bonez. This is not creative or imaginative. It's only the relative lack of head bones that prevents it being the complete apotheosis of one of the aspects (miniature design) that makes GW the laughing stock of the rest of the wargaming world.
Lastly, for this point, another of my pet peeves: a whole lot of wibbly, finicky detail meant to wow the credulous observer and distract them from the fact that it's a lot of superficial dressing over an also-unimaginative and pedestrian design. So he's finishing the casting of a powerful incantation. You can't see that, All you can see is him just standing there like a lemon, with one hand pointed skywards. How many other GW models, especially characters, are and were posed in the same way? The only thing that'd make it more cliched is if he did the Captain Morgan pose with one foot resting on a rock. Or a skull.
And that's not even touching the "buy this it's kewl and it'll win you loads of games!" rules.

C) The infantilised nature of GW that seems to be lapped up by it's fanboys. The attitude among 20-30 year-olds that GW's increasingly teen-targeted ranges have the bestest setting and bestest models and bestest rules, and how blessed you are to just sit there and allow GW to plop these jewel-like items of wonder in your lap (in exchange for scads of cash in excess of what similar wondrous jewel-like items cost) rather than bother with all that boring effort of taking control of your gaming and increasing your awareness outside the GWetto. The attitude that minis are just better if they're blinged up and badazz, dusted in skullz and spikez, looking more and more like kids' action figures. The attitude that the minis should have so many beneficial extra rules, (super)powers and arbitrary exceptions that sound more and more like a schoolyard game of bang-I-shot-you-nuh-uh-I-have-super-ultra-mega-forcefields-nuh-uh-I-have-hyper-uber-handwavium-bullets-that-blow-up-super-ultra-mega-forcefields, all shoved in to make you coo at it as if it means something interesting or ingenious or halfway mature, and make them appealing (to buy); and that all this cramming of complications, patches, speedbumps and OTT whims somehow makes Warhammer 'balanced' and 'competitive'.
All these attitudes that foster GW's attitudes, to the point where the upper management call you - YOU - sheep, that will buy any old crap they put out. Where 'the GW hobby is buying GW products'. Where they shaft the retailers and customers alike, worldwide, and try to do the same to component manufacturers, authors, and whoever else wanders into their narrow field of vision. All this uncritical - or worse - critical but otherwise unconditional hoovering-up of GW's offerings, to the point that GW and fans have become stuck in some vicious circle where worsening prices; bloated, planned-obsolescence rules; and goofy, lazy models are not only seen as normal but as a good thing by some. I've said elsewhere that GW is like the Justin Beiber of wargaming: widely popular and can at least carry a tune, but marketed to kids, churns out cheesy pablum, gobs on it's fans, and increasingly believes it's own hype and doesn't give a gak for anyone else. Only now have enough people grown up, wised up and had enough of GW's shenanigans to make a difference, but leaving GW so spoilt and inbred that it has little idea and little hope of turning round, becoming more mature and reasonable, or fixing itself in some way.

If you squee like a fanboy over this model just because it's there, it's big, it's covered in bones, and it has broken rules, you're still perpetuating that circle. Or - since the circle's collapsing anyway - the perception of GW gamers as brainwashed manchildren, even among other tabletop wargamers (who still play with toy soldiers!) with a more balanced hobby - which might still include GW games. If you don't like the thoughts that GW is up a creek, that your most beloved games are riddled with problems that either don't go away or are replaced or even added to with different problems, or that meany people laugh because you gleefully line up to empty your wallets to receive those problem games and shonky models, maybe it's not entirely down to GW, elitist grognards, or the fascist public. Maybe you should occasionally take a moment to look and consider.

'Cos Your Opinions Are Bad.

So, I see that talking about the new Nagash model. And, because of the way I am, which may be wrong, I wanted to tear him down and burn him. Because I am a bully, I guess. I just don't get these haters at all. I don't like them hacking down what is the most exciting thing in a game I love since the new edition. I have to restrain myself and just post here, because otherwise I will go full attack dog. I checked his posts, looked into what he had to say on other places. Posts are either haterade on GW(concentrating on using the world infantile) and advice. There was one attaboy that I think also had advice to it. I don't mind advice per se, but not when you have 8 pics in your gallery and exactly zero are of finished models you have created. He does have two published models. One is a professor in a coat. It had a hand bit that was mentioned in text but not shown that had a pipe that I would steal for an Empire character if it worked and looked good. The other is an actually pretty endearing halfling sitting on a rock. So, good for him. Otherwise....

Oh and Knightley said hi to him. But Knightley also is really friendly. I usually have to get paid or have otherwise something to gain from being friendly. Bless his heart.

Why are you here? What is your point? I want to go to a place called DakkaDakka and talk trash exclusively? Why? Why? Why?

"What a carpy pose!" For real? What is he supposed to do a handstand, be flipping the bird, riding a skateboard? For the love of Sigmar the model is suspended by corpselight floating like frigging superman reading a book that is staring back at him!

GAR! What does GW have to do? It is unlike anything that has ever been seen in a wargame model before. It has pushed the bounds further than anything previous to it.

I've been into the hobby for 2 decades now. I worked with the company when we had a hidden away OOP chaos bike character I can't remember the name of and can't easily search, but know that he was god awful. That was ten years ago. Now, the worst model that can be found is Logan on his chariot, which is arguably by if only because I will argue it is good just to be contrary.

I'm losing the point here. Nagash is also good because he is big. Yes, size matters, gentlemen. Again with the pushing of boundaries. As a painter and modeler it is just amazing to me. One dummy on that stupid thread says, "but were wud I store it?"

FRAGGLEROCK, YOU FOOL!(rules against cursing I seem to remember) Store it is a display case, moron. Store it where you can show off the week of actual hours you spent on it. $105 bucks for that much enjoyment time building and painting isn't a bad deal. It's 10 Adult tickets at the best and busiest theater in the Indianapolis area. That's 20 hours on average and you haven't bought popcorn. And you would buy popcorn. Just smell it. You know you want it. Just buy it. You'll need a drink to wash it down too.

Looked back at the above spoiled post for a little more impetus and I stumble upon pablum. Thanks for that. I needed someone to wast their time writing that word for me. That is for sure a rumor. And infantalizing? He sheathes his sword in skin. In a skin scabbard. If you don't think that is rad, then keep buying models that give you the option of a revolver, a pipe, or oooh a sciency thingamambob. Maybe he would be less infantile if he was sitting on a rock. That would be more dynamic and better pose.

And the rules? You mean the rules that were published in a $4 White Dwarf and are included in the box? Yeah, they are gnarly. But that along with the hugeness and meanness of it make it that much cooler to me as an Empire player. I want to try to kill that thing! If I pull it off with my ragtag Sigmarite cult with its contingents of paid state troops and drunken commanders, then I am BEAST. I kind of care that it is balanced. I way more care that it is cool. It is cool that the battle report(which I mostly read) had the near full complement of the Studio TK army getting whipped by him single-handedly. Which is a scenario from the book. Get some. That, btw, is the type of stuff you get in the mag when you don't steal it from BOLS a week before it comes out. As an aside-Visions is cool. Hope it doesn't go away.

I was a part of the Storm of Chaos campaign. I liked it, but it had problems that make sense that you don't involve the public in changing the story official. It was exciting but needed retconned. Needed it. This is a similar type of worldshaker, but I feel better about how it is being done, because it can be accompanied by a coherent set of rules and models(RAWR they just want to sell models! What jerks! - Come to my theater and see how long it takes me to sell you a movie ticket, dummy. Second sentence after hi, do you have your loyalty card? In fact, if you don't buy a ticket, I will throw you out for loitering.) It is thought out and its major moves will be published in gorgeous hardcover books and not on an internet forum. Rad.

My parenthetical above actually struck a thought in me. Trolling and b(is that an acceptable word, better not chance it)ching on rad new model forums to me is like the jerks I have to talk to at work who bring their phones into theaters and use them. "Hey guy, the 76 people behind you bought tickets too, so get off facebook. I assure you they don't care that you have something you find more interesting right now. They don't. In fact, why are you here? In fact, do you have a ticket to this show? Oh, you threw it away? Guess we gave it to you after you gave us money for a pure lark. We have really great exit doors, let me show you.

I can't kick people out of a forum though. I can't even strike back with my aggressive positiveness. Doesn't get you anywhere. Doesn't accomplish anything. Maybe if I was a MOD, but that should never happen, because I am a bully. I would bully.

In fact, I should have been painting this whole time, rather than watching Law and Order and blagging this out. It just annoyed me and I wanted to vent some.

Let's put a positive spin to end this on...

I appreciate you guys that read this bl0rg. I know I don't have enough pictures. Maybe I'll try to get Ice to take some pictures on Wednesday. He's obvs got nothing better to do. I appreciate that you guys are so constructive. You get stuff done. You hobby happily. You don't spend time whinging, but instead building, painting, and non-maliciously trash talking.

Thanks for giving me a good list of subscribed threads to check too often. Thanks for appreciating my ridiculously(awesome) painted marines. Thanks for politely ignoring my posts about WHFB? Maybe not, but I guess it is Dakka...

You can tell a man by his friends and with all y'all I must be pretty ok.

Great post moonpie! I do enjoy your rants. It would have been better if it included some WIP pictures.

I agree with you too. There is so much negativity out there, not just in our little hobby world. If people would spend at least some of there time being constructive, we'd all be happier.

Make sure you bring the flier tomorrow and I'll get some pictures.

Doomrider is the goofy Chaos Biker.

I don't play Fantasy at all but my reaction to the new Nagash was, damn that's cool looking. The size argument I get and can sympathize with but hey people picked the hobby it's not like everything was 15mm last week so...

I do agree with him on the "infantile" direction of some of the newer 40k stuff, specifically the Space Wolves. I have been playing that army since before they had a proper codex and while the quality of the kits is definitely amazing. I Haaaaaaaate TWC, Santa Logan and am not a huge fan of the flying longboats. HOWEVER. I can fully grant that's a matter of taste. I see people who absolutely love the wolf riders. More power to em, I just wont ever field them or buy the models. I'm pretty ok with that. I'm pissed we lost our Wulfen though. Stupid new codex. :(

People who lose it over this stuff need to step back and realize at the end of the day we are playing with toy soldiers.

I am a Space Wolf player. I know. Pics or it didn't happen. So, if only to break up wall o' txt:

@Ice: I do go on... I'll bring the flyer. Just to prove to the world that I can put together a tank.

@CaptainStabby: DOOMRIDER! Thank you for that. We had his box hidden away in our 4x4 cabinets. It was a threat for losing a bet or something. You'll have to buy and paint Doomrider. Gee, GW used to be so much better..

I have the old Codex, and the WD list that proceeded it. Old skoo. I think if I bought the TWC, I might enjoy them, but I KNOW that I love termies. Like your Wolves, btw, but the word "infantile" being used by the man who made a "chain cricket bat"? Hmmm... Like it, want to steal it. Don't know anything about cricket other than Indians and Pakistanis adore it and they built a field in Indy that has outraged thousands.

I am going to miss the Wulfen too. It was a ba addition to squads, plus I had the models. I have 40 Wulfen that I still use during Apocalypse games.

I'll take it for Helfrost, though. It will replace JoWW for instakilling MCs. Yeah, they have to roll a 6, but that can happen. Plus, they look cool.

@MissDee: Can we agree to call it a "hovering" brick? I actually totally dig it. Especially now that I built it an have held it. It is burly and mean. It's not aerodynamic because it ain't flying. It's defying gravity. Gravity for chumps. I like both variants. One is a mix between a longship and something from D-Day. They other is the 40k equivalent of an A-10 Warthog.

Ice and our buddy Polley, who lurks, really screwed with me regarding what to put on the outside of my kits. How can I put pelts on a re-entry vehicle? Wouldn't it burn up in the atmosphere?

Maybe a power cricket bat? Str6 AP4 Concussive. To the skull.

Yeah, same here. I had just finished building a Logan drop pod army when the dex came out. I think I only have one squad of chainfist/stormshield guys so it's not too bad for me. Plus I ended up with like 4 Stormclaw boxes so... bitz!

I'm also super bummed that True Grit went away with 7th. I was incredibly excited to make a drop pod squad of Wolfguard with dual plasma pistols, just because it would be a hilarious 1 trick pony.

To be fair Moonie, I say hi to everyone

However I totally get what you are meaning, there is so much more to do on Dakka than posting vitriol because a company, that is modelling company (not a self confessed game company, although beg to differ) doesn't make a model that suits your unique taste? Guess what, there are other modelling companies out there, why not go chase them down and get all slavering rabid dog on them? Oh is that because they aren't a large corporate with investors to please?

There have been many posters here on Dakka who's sole posting reason is to tear down everything. I've had one particularly nasty member even go so far as to PM me saying my models were horrible and I should burn the lot of them, I didn't listen to him but I did thank him for his comments and criticisms, that served to annoy him further. To me those members are regular day Joker's to Dakka's Batmen, you will never understand the reasoning behind it, the just... do. Oh and boo to anyone who says there can only be one Batman!

I recall the reason I joined Dakka was because of Git's blog on his sons Doom Eagles, it really touched a chord with me and I felt I had to sign up and comment, albeit a year and a half later, but i've stayed for the community, so many amazing painters and great personalities it would be hard to leave

Oh and tight looking space wolves, figured I'd at least comment on some models while I'm here

Yeah, the intro thread... Not so good at that here. I do apparently mine it for ways to tear someone down.

Isn't it funny that they get so mad, because they are a corporation? "Gar! Why do they have to make money?" Of course, I have been on their payroll before, so I am compromised. My landlord took money, not hobby enthusiasm for rent payment. So, I had to be friendly for money. Even a decade ago we had people come in complaining. This was in the heart of the Eye of Terror radness too. Those people usually needed to take a shower. To be fair, a lot of people in that store needed to take a shower.

Speaking of needing to take a shower... I find that Git tries to touch me too. I swat him away.

Adam West, Micheal Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and now Ben Affleck-more than one Batman. Sho' nuff.

I joined Dakka cause of Ice, Solar, and Git. For the most part I dig it, but I just have to remember to keep out of certain ghettos-like anywhere but P&M stuff.

Would it be tall poppy syndrome that has sparked the hate on corporations? or perhaps that they become faceless entities who sole goal is to maximise profits instead of providing a service or goods? I for one have no issues with Games workshop, I feel that if they had done the price rises 15 years ago, there would have been a bigger outcry than what happened during the last rises.

Brb, having a shower, thanks for the reminder

I find that if I stay away from the sub forums "You Make Da Call" "40K Army lists" and "Off Topic" my enjoyment of the site went up immeasurably. and for "News and Rumours" I look at the pretty pictures and do my damnedest to not read what other people post about 'upcoming rumours'

What attracted you to the Space Wolves as your current army?

I have always been a fan of Space Wolves, since before they even had a codex. I skipped meals in middle school to buy my first box of metal gray hunters. When I first learned to read, I somehow got a hold of a book on Norse mythology. I was enamored of the stories of Odin hanging on the Yggdrasil to learn the runes and Fenris chomping on Tyr's hand. So, it was just natural.

Ice has been into Blood Angels for 20 years. I've been into Space Wolves that long. I'm on my 4thish Space Wolves army.

The pink army always wins. You beat the pink army? Go ahead and brag about it. You lost to the pink army? Well, then....

re: the Logan/Termies etc... stuff further up the thread. Keep in mind with Unbound you can be "that guy" and just buy extra drop pods for 35 pts to make sure your entire army drops first turn.

I can neither confirm nor deny that I may or may not do that to at least one opponent.
