Hey Everybody,

I am new to Dakka Dakka and to forums in General. My friend Exocorp introduced me to the site and I think it is really great. Anyway, I wanted to post a few pics of two Terminator Librarians I just finished up and go through how I painted them...sorry, no step by step as I only found out about this after I finished...

Armor:
Armor Base is Regal Blue (tried to make it darker than my ultramarines)
1st 1:1 Regal and Ultramarines blue Highlight
2nd Highlight Ultramarines Blue
3rd Highlight is 1:1 UM Blue and Ice Blue

My Standard Marines use UM BLUE as a base with 1st highlight of 2:1 UM Blue and White and 2nd Highlight of 1:2 UM BLUE and White

Red Cape:
Red Gore Base
2:1 RG and Blood Red
1:2 RG and Blood Red
Blood Red
Basically working up on the elevated parts only extreme edges got hit with Blood Red

Hood & Metal Bits
1:1 Black with Bolt gun metal
Highlight with Mithril Silver

Books & Purity Seals
1:1 Scorch Brown & Black (base coat)
Scorch Brown (doesn't go in the deep recesses)
Bestial Brown
Snake Bite Leather
Bleach Bone
Scroll work
watered down brown Ink

Gold areas

Brazen Brass
Gold
Black Ink the jointed areas to add some depth
1:1 Gold Mithril Silver Highlight

Well, That is how I paint it for the most part. I am overseas now so don't have too many of my other finished models here but will post soon. I hope these painting sequences help... Attached are some photos

The models look quite nice. The highlight on the armor could probably stand to be blended in a little more as I find the transition from the light edge to the dark interior a little jarring. Still, very nicely done.
The faces do need more definition though. It looks like maybe you used thicker paint than you should have, and only maybe 1 color. With how nicely highlighted the rest of the model is, and considering the face is often the focal point of a model, it looks really out of place.

Still, over all they look really nice!

Thanks for the comments:

I may re-painting the face...It was a White base, Bronze Flesh, Flesh Wash, follow by Bronze flesh...

Reason for shields: The reason I gave them a shield instead of a weapon is for two reasons...the main reason, the 4+ save vs. 5+ - 50% is far better than 33% and if using veil of time to re-roll, he will be pretty tough to kill. I thought the added survivability makes up for the lack of any other weapons.

Highlights...I am not good at taking pictures I think it the 'extremeness' comes out quite a bit more in the photo and is less jarring in real life

AGAIN: Thanks for the comments.

I finished my Rhino The other day...Here is a pic of the finished model. If anybody has a suggestion for the name of it I would appreciate it...

Great work there indeed Sir. The tone-shading is excellent.

Nice paintwork.

On all the models.

I'd disagree on the blending Wehrkind, I think you're being too harsh.

It's just a case of going for an extreme highlight which I think, IMHO, mray01 pulls off very well. the Rhino highlights (pardon the pun) this quite well.

I'd guess 1 wash 2 highlighted colours (yes I am from the UK) or 1 base coat 3 highlights.

That's how I'd recreate it. Don't know whether I'd do it as neat though.

Edit - Just read the original post. Wasn't far of. lol

Love the work on the blue. Very strong.

MAybe it's the camera but you seem to lose some detail in the face. For good or ill the face of a model like that is the focus of the entire thing. I think you may nee dto thin your paint a little on the face and add soem depth with a wash.

Otherwise it looks great. The blue is far better than most ultras i've seen.

True and for the most part you do not use any other weapon when you use a psychic power... I never thoughtof using a shield because my Liby is part of my jump squad for along with my Chaplain and I like the extra attack.

*edit* VERY nice rhino

These ultramarines are looking really nice, although I agree about the faces. I don't know if its just the picture taking [judging from the quality of the rest of the model], but from the angle I'm looking at they seem a little flat.

Incidentally, where are in you in 中国?

Ibushi,

I am in Shanghai right now and have been for the past 18 months. I haven't really played since I moved here other than a short stint back to the US during December. I had been painting last year and most of my army is back home, but I do have a bunch here that I am painting in my free time.

Where are you?

About the Face: I am looking at the model and the face doesn't look so flat in person. Perhaps it is the photography. I will still likely re-work it a bit to add some more depth.

Thanks for the comments everybody. I am working on some other stuff too that I will post.
