I have an idea for making Inq Storm Trooper/Vet Guardsmen for a retinue, but I don't know if it will work. Since plasma guns are pretty expensive, and I can't find a Cadian or Kasrkin with one around here, I was wondering if one could take a plasma pistol, a set of SM Scout shot gun arms, hack them up and meld the plasma pistol with the shotgun, then mount the newly made arms and guns to a Cadian torso. I don't have any scouts with shotguns to compare the size of the guns to plasma pistols, nor the distance between the shoulders of scouts or cadians.

So what do you guys think? Possible?

@Wehrkind: I have about 30 scout/cadian conversions and what I did was take the cadian set of arms with the hand which isn't modeled onto the gun. Cut, the gun off the arm and clean up the area. I then use for Guardsmen, a modified bolter/plasma pistol converted plasma gun. I tried to find one for an example, but I am not sure where it went!

If I have time, I'll try to quickly mock one up! I'll also snap a picture of of the arms, I did a pair up today for my woodelf/cadian light infantry tanith wannabee's!

I hope this helps, and like I said hopefully after dinner I'll take some quick shots and post some pictures!

Thanks,
Chappy P!

You could just Bitz order a couple o' SM Plasmaguns. At that point, put them into the Cadian "lego" left hand, and give them a grenade-hurling right hand.

I've made 1 w/a plasma pistol. I cut the end off a melta gun added the pistol on the end & cut the hose thing off the bottom. Then I fitted the canister thing from a crisis suit fusion blaster on the bottom. If you need the canister thing for the job let me know.

Using IG Flamethrower arms is another option. Trim the end down to the point where there are no more barrels showing, and replace the missing section with a Plasma Pistol. Using a Bolter Grip to fill in any empty space could work too, but I preferred to make a trim fit. The model has the same pose as the metal blister, and looks quite good on the board. It's heavier duty than a Lasgun-Plasma Gun conversion, but it looks a little better.

I use three such conversions (Las/Plasma), one in each of my Hardened Veteran Squads. It makes for great poseability, and actually contributed to me being winning a small "best theme" prize at my flgs tourney this past Saturday.

The trick is just to get creative with it. I made one Guardsman in the typical firing pose, one waving his hand as though he were trying to fan the hot fumes from the vent on top (his gun also has a foregrip), and one bringing his weapon to bear, as though he had just spun around.

Chappy P: I would love to see some pics! I am really trying to pull this off without butchering 30$ in bitz, so any wisdom I can receive will be great.

Which is why I don't want to just buy Plasma guns Min Max. At ~3$ a pop on The War Store, they are just a little much. I have a ton of plasma pistols I don't need, so I want to hack those bad boys up.

Shrew: I may have to raid your bottomless bitz basement one of these day. Speaking of which, I have some elfy heads for your girl's DE.

Corpseman: I am glad to head the flamer conversion works too. That was going to be my fallback, and probably the base for any Veterans/standard guardsmen with plasma. I am thinking storm troopers should have a "carbine" version, which is what got me thinking of the scout shotguns. Can I get some pictures of yours to see how they came together? (and just to drool over... I like your conversions in general )

I was thinking about using SM scouts as stormtrooper conversions at one point.

for the plasmas for my regular IG fellas, I just stuck the end of an assault marine plasma pistol on the back half of a lasgun. There's 1 set of arms where the hand isn't molded to the front part, the left hand is open. So I used that set of arms. I cut the lasgun in half right in front of the ammo cartridge. Then I cut the plasma pisol along the back end of the coil thingy on top, then I just glued em together and used a teeny bit of greenstuff to make it look like all 1 piece.

There's pics on my gallery in my sig if you want to see. I might have some wip shots, i'll look for em when I get home

Here is my melta to plasma conversion, I forgot that I left the bottom hose on. It may not be the greatest but it cost $0.00 in extra bits for me to make.

Cool. I was looking at it this morning, and I am thinking a combination of Shrew's and Necros ideas will work well for the normal IG men. Since I have 18 plasma pistols, god knows why, I think I can cut what would be the barrel of the lasgun back to the cartridge ejector (why do they have those?) and then attach the plasma pistol squared right in fron of where yours has the Tau bits Shrew. Sort of like fitting a new synthetic stock on an old rifle.

Now I just need to figure out a good way to make a combi-plasma. Does anyone have cool pictures of that?

Why indeed.... Probably so that all the excess "unspent" light can be vented into your buddy's face as you go rock-n-roll from the trench...
