Well, Kyoto's terrific idea has prompted me to start a project I've often mused about but never have built enough enthusiasm to start; Horus vs Emperor

Plan is to make a large, modular spacehulk board and when doing so, make specific rooms for the Horus Heresy. The spacehulk will of course have generic piece so we can kill/team spacehulk with our chapters...but anyways here is the first miniature for the conflict (Sculpted by Grytz, painted by me);

Misery. Missouri. Who can tell the difference.

That model is so cool. Masterly painted and kudos! I bet he is going to walk right through my upstart Tau the next time we play 40K. The true line of sight rule in 5th is going to hurt a bit.

You cannot hide from the Emperor's wrath, xenos filth!

That is one tight model though, well painted to boot. Luck with the project!

Great model. Again with the sword comment. It's actually one of the nicer emporer models I've come across. Most seem to be too 40ky, this ones just nice, you can tell who it is from looking and (sword aside) proportions are great along with the paint job. Is it painted with the old shining gold or have you mixed one of the new ones? Would love to know, really not a fan of the current version of shining gold.

I love the gold. I have seen far too many Emperor models that people think will work with NMM gold. It is very refreshing to see an actual, well-painted metallic gold where it should be used.

Definitely one of the better Emperor models around. I agree with LB on the paintjob.

Yeah, the perspective is making it look pretty large. It's actually pretty close to normal, perhaps a bit wide if anything (think broadsword).

My gold recipe (Drybrushing/glazing up);

GW Bronze
GW Bronze/Vallejo Old Gold mix
Wash with chestnuk ink/Future mix
Straight Vallejo Old Gold
Vallejo Old Gold/Shining Gold mix
Glaze watered down chestnut ink
Shining Gold

I'm not a fan of NMM gold either. It seems like it looks great from one angle...but once you change your perspective it looks shaded wrong. Even top-down NMM always looks funky to me once the angle changes. Maybe I just suck at it =p

Thanks for all the comments, Horus next!

Looks fantastic!

You don't have any WIP shot do you?

Also for those who were wondering, the idea of mine he flatteringly referred to is here:

I see Foda has already tried them!

Hey Kyoto,

No WIP shots I'm afraid as I hadn't really counted on posting it. When I do Horus, I'll take some WIP steps (Of course, there will be little to no gold on him..if that was what you were speaking about). Thanks again for the rules/inspiration and comment.

That mini just looks terrific. I join the ranks of people who now want to do something like it.
