Thought I would share the new method I created of dipping Tyranids. I go into more detail here in my article http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Dipping+Tyranids - WARNING - this takes a long time to load due to the number of pictures I attached.

I used a milk frother to spin the models after dipping them. I found this easier and faster than flicking them or using a drill. I simply clipped them on with a binder clip and spun away. Here are some pictures showing the result. Check the article for more information.

Wow, the results are pretty good. Pity I dont have a milk frother lying around the house though

I actually have one of those kicking around the house, might have to give it a try, sure as hell will beat my current method of flicking the damn things by hand

Good article, remember reading it when you first put it up. Question though, what paints did you use on the bugs? Mostly the lighter skin tone.

Great article! I am going to have to get two of those mixers, one for dipping (probably Orks) and one for mixing my ovaltine!

Have you or anyone else tried basing BEFORE dipping? say putting a coat of light brown or whatever on the dirt, then letting the dip shade it? Does it act as it does on the models, or does it just make a puddle of dip over dirt?

I tried it on my Storm troopers and I think it's best suited to dirt/city bases. You deffinately don't want to be doing grass that way.

If you do a basic base color and then hit it with your drybrush/highlights I think it looks fine.

I primed all the models using GW White primer. Then I painted each model entirely in Vallejo Game Color "Bone White" (this was faster than selectively painting them). Then I added Vallejo Game Color "Gory Red" over the areas that needed it. The eyes were painted with a generic black, then dotted with Vallejo Game Color "Scorpy Green". For Citadel equivalents, I basically used Bleached Bone, Red Gore, and Scorpion Green (now out of print).

I added the "dots" on the Genestealers with a brown Sharpie Permanent Ultra Fine Tip marker. I found that was much faster than painting on the dots, (seriously like 15 seconds each model)....

Yes.... Unfortunately, dipping brings out the worst. I am planning on cleaning up the lines much better before I paint my next batch.... Mez
