No pictures to share yet. I took some, but my connection betwixt camera and computer is momentarily screwed. Nothing major, but some nice little tidbits. I had to dig for a few. I'll bulletize the bits of news I recall.

New Product Seminar (Phil and JJ):

- Probably somewhat misnamed - it was really a 40K5 philosophy and overview
- The entire slideshow was images from inside the 5th edition rulebook
- They discussed the three major sections of the book: Background --> Hobby --> Rules
Background:
- Both spoke at length about the importance of the background in the game, how is provides depth and flavor, and they wanted to provide the most complete background they could in the big rulebook
- Gave props to Priestley for the universe and the continued development of it
- Used the galaxy map and the Blanche artwork of the Imperial org chart (drawn in Tarot form) to illustrate that they wanted to use artwork and visuals to pass information, rather than blocks of text
- Each of the races has their section with their own perspective on the galaxy in map form (they showed the first two pages of the Ork section as an example)
- The rulebook focuses more on the timeline between the HH and current time to provide more "storytelling" space for the players
- Phil mentioned putting a lot of time and detail into the background, so it could be read multiple times by new players and vets alike for new stuff; ergo, it's not a repackaging of fluff
- JJ mentioned that there were hints in the book of future efforts
Hobby:
- Basically pictures of the toy soldiers
- They illustrated the rulebook having pages displaying a tourney army, a themed army, and a campaign army
- They discussed the various ways to enjoy the hobby - not everyone paints for GD's, not everyone plays tourneys, not everyone does campaigns - they wanted the book to appeal to all
Rules:
- They are going for a cinematic, "you are there" feel
- They used the TLOS as an example, well covered here
- Phil discussed the rules push players to focus on balance (armies play different in the different mission types) and movement
- Random game length will push players to "not wait for the last turn"
- Game length is about the same, rules streamlined a bit
- Assault is much bloodier
- JJ's favorite new rule is TLOS, Phil's is running (6"+D6" instead of shooting, I believe)

They then answered questions. Nothing earth-shattering here. Phil was more likely to smile and hint, JJ played the company cop.
- Specialist Games was discussed, it exists and will be supported, and HOPEFULLY use WD a bit in the future
- The days of "1 book = 1 release range, see you in 5 years (or more)" are finally kaput. I considered that a bad business model, and they do as well. They will be supporting some new units and models throughout a lifecycle now. This jibes with Rick Priestley taking a little control of the WD and bringing it back to the hobby/gaming side a bit.
- They have a dedicated guy for FAQs (and they mentioned Alessio working on them, though they didn't specify he was the guy); they recognize the FAQs are much more important than they have treated them
- JJ was asked about Space Hulk and mentioned that the mini-heavy specialist games still reside in the GW proper and are being evaluated. Before that, Phil allowed that seeing that soon was "extremely likely", before he realized the quertion was about Space Hulk, and not Space Wolves. Sad for Space Hulk, good for Space Wolves
- LOTR will continue to be supported, as will The Hobbit for those films
- Space Mainr Codex is huge (already reported on the web that it's 144 pages), and there is a ton of background in it, plus several new units (most of which we also already know)

More later! That's it for the seminar.

Special Guests:

Owen Branham/Forge World:

Lots of great stuff on display. New stuff for me was the Plague Ogryns (fantastic) and Ork Wartrakk Upgrades. They only had one (an supa-engine with a stick shift), but Owen mentioned they have guns and Boyz in the works as well. He also said other Legions would eventually see some Terminator/Tactical resin as well. No details.

WFB/Dark Elves:

I casually flipped through the Army Book. Mostly Dave Gallagher art.
Lots of the new models were painted and displayed:
- Cold One Knights are spectacular (especially the Cold Ones - gorgeously painted as well)
- Two Cold One heroes, the Dreadlord and Sorceress
- Lohkrir (sp.) does have the squid mask, but looks good

WH40K:
(all unpainted)
- Collector's Rulebook and Green Bolter Case (Gamer's Edition) were on display. The rulebook looks quite good, and the green case is pretty small (same length and height as the book, about twice as deep)
- 3-up of the Black Reach captain (Dave Thomas), very impressive (very ornate bolter, great head, nice aquila neck device)
Marine "character" sprue from Black Reach
- Captain is four parts 1) Backpack, 2) Sword and right forearm, 3) Legs, shoulders and back/neck device, and 4) Head, chest and bolter hand
- Dread is seven parts 1,2) Feet, 3,4) Arms, 5) Legs, 6) Back, 7) Front - also very impressive
- Termie Captain looks great, as does Marine Sgt and Missile Launcher guy (who has a helmet that reminded me of Darth Vader...definitely an ancient design, very cool)
- Built Ork Warboss from Black Reach (Seb Perbet), it's a beauty, especially the head and powerclaw

Collector's Range:
This interested me a lot. Talked a bit to Ted Williams (more from him later), and it's just special minis being released because they are cool or fill a small gap. Quite a few new ones there. All will be released in the next 18 months:

Mat ?:
Tau Air Cast Pilot
Kroot Shaper (very good)

Mike Anderson:
Warrior Priest resting on his hammer

?:
Ammo Runts for fantasy

Juan Diaz:
Blood Angels Captain
Space Wolf with Bolter
Space Wolf with ancient twin lightning claws

The Space Wolves got me very excited (as they are great sculpts, especially the LC guy), as I assumed they were for the SW release. They are not (or so I was told). Still, good to see an avenue for other models (like the Vamp Pirates) other than major releases.

You'll see pics of all these guys soon, if not from me, from someone else. One more bit to go.

Another note, not a surprise to most of us.

Phil confirmed that DE will be getting a LOT of love when they finally get their release. He specifically compared their release to the WE release, and said they would not be squatted. JJ confirmed they were working on several things, and promised that the SW, BA, IG, etc would be getting their turn.

Phil was very excited for the DE, based on his comments.

Lastly, I talked to Ted Williams a bit more. He had a notebook full of CAD designs. We discussed the processes used to go from CAD to plastic, the timelines, the interest of the sculptors, etc. He wrangles about 17 sculptors in total, and almost half of them use CAD to one extent or another.

The book had tons of goodies in there, from a steam tank, to the drop pod sprue layout (some Chapter specific icons are on there, but no figures), the LR "bonus" sprue layout (it does have some odds and ends [seal, heads, etc]), some dread stuff, an Ork Battlewagon sprue layout, and some other cool stuff.

Besides the Ork Battlewagon sprue, other notable items were a dread siege design (with a hurricane bolter and siege arm), and most critically, a new Land Speeder design from the front, back, and isometrically. I'm certain the LS was the Scout Transport. It sported a triple engine (instead of the double engine) and some extra gubbins. I will get pics of all that online as soon as possible. I know the Land Speeder views and Ork Battlewagon sprue will be a great interest.

The sprue layouts are NOT highly detailed. But they do show what is on it. See the recently spoiled Land Speeder Sprue Layout from the Marine rumors as an example.

That's all I got for some time. I'll work on the pictures, but that won't be today. My apologies.

Of special interest

The Termie Captain was 1) legs and back, and 2) chest/head, and 3/4) arms. Didn't see the others.

Also, Neil Langdown is the sculptor behind Sgt Telion. I specifically asked Ted. Neil used to be a 'EM painter. Ted did mention Neil wasn't as impressed with Telion as we were, and that the Marines Neil had done that Ted saw before coming over for GD were even better. Don't know what they were (except "Not Space Wolves", because I was hoping and so asked...).

More later!

I know its not 40k related but did anyone ask if the Chaos Dwarves got canned? I'm trying to figure out if I win my bet.

The News and Rumors section is all about surprises. I'd certainly hate it if we got 100 posts saying "I know something you don't know..." - malfred

I certainly wasn't there, but I have my doubts. They have a viable (enough) Ravening Hordes list, and while I don't expect a book, the devs have kept them around for quite some time and don't appear to be in any hurry to axe them. If you're betting they're going the way of the squats, you're more than likely out some cash.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

Really happy to see that a battlewagon kit is FINALLY in the works.

The plastic boss looks really good for a starter kit model.

The Space Wolf with the lightning claws is awesome. There should be a whole unit of those as a SW vet squad.

Well, at least they finally went ahead and made it clear that Wolverine is really a space wolf.

Definitely love the new LR frame. Lots of conversion potential in that. Looks like that stretch raider siege tank I've been planning will finally get built.

That Battlewagon also looks quite promising.

But the Siege Dread, meh. The drill arm is kinda cool, but the bolter mount look even more awkward than the other Dread weapons already do.

Yay for DE! I suspect that a reinvigorated range with models of WE caliber would make them a VERY popular army. That said, I can't say I'm looking forward to more marine dexes, even if they're Chaosy. I'd much rather see a LatD book.
