Okay, so about two months ago i got my first batch of DKOK, 2 25man platoons, a command HQ and a squad of grenadiers. Since then i´ve been wondering what color scheme to go with, and how to do at least some justice to these wonderful models.

Therefore I´ve been happily reading about the new washes, and the wonders they do. And on monday i finally got round to buying the set, and sat down painting.

Here´s the results so far, a platoon command squad mostly done. Guns and bases are not finished, and some touchups here and there are required, but mostly, this is how i want the army to look.

Thanks.

Yeah, the Death Korps are some of my favorite models as well, and i can tell you, they look even better "in person" than on the web..

The guns have only gotten washes so far, while i try to figure out what kind of finish to give them.

Maybe it's the lighting, but I think they could use a little more highlighting. You've paid all that money for the beautiful FW detail and at least in the pics, it's getting lost in the shading.

You´re right, they do need a few final highlights.

i´ll probably o highlights at the very end though. My first goal is to get the rest of them to this stage. That way they´ll be tabletop-worthy sooner.

All right then, a bit of an update here. I got the first six of my grenadiers done, here´s a few pics. You´ll note that their armor is green rather than bare metal. I figure that it´s an easy way to tell them apart from the regulars, and it sort of makes sense that they might get a bit better gear issued, i guess..

Although they both have carapace armor, the lieutenant´s armor is way more ornate, while the grenadiers have more subdued armor.

sweet - just the bases detract from a lovely paint job. the white skull masks work really well, offsetting the grimyness / muted colours of the rest of the uniform - can't wait to see the whole army completed. keep up the good work.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

THx, and I know that the bases aren´t too good just now. They´ll get a full treatment once I have time to spare, hopefully including some razorwire and such...

I would paint those edges of the bases black and maybe darken up the basing material as well to fit in with their fluff of being trench fighters. But otherwise good paint job and I wish I could afford a squad or two to add to my own IG army.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.

Looking great so far!

I got my 2 units of grenadiers too, they're really fun models to paint The hoses sucked though, they were all too short, guess I didn't glue the guns in the exact right spot.. so I just left em off. I guess if I really tried I could have gotten em to work, musta just been feeling lazy

I got mine on there with patience, swearing, and hot water.

I test fitted about 15 million times per model, and then heated, bent and re-tested...

Took forever, but I´m really really happy about the result.

I can certainly understand why most people leave them off.

Well then, time for a little update here. I´ve made a mini-diorama base for my heavy flamer team. Basically, I used plasticard and GS for the base materials, some balsa, and plasticard profile for the barricade, and FW barbed wire on top of the barricade.

I´m still testing different uses for this barbed wire stuff, but so far, it´s awesome! the quality is top notch, and it´s easy to make it look good.

Some Piccies!

Dude, that flamer team looks really sweet. You've really captured the WWI feel of the Corps.

Did you order that barbed wire online or get it from a hobby store??

Flamer Team is sweet. Love them all pretty much good job.

Detail is very nice on them as well.

That would look sweet on all the models. ( that'd take a while) The barb wire and mud look.

Only thing is wish they looked Grittyer and dirtyer IMO

Thanks for the comments guys, These models are so much fun to paint it´s amazing.

@Fitzeh: The barbed wire is from forgeworld, you can find it in their cityfight section, under stratagems. I think they call it razorwire.

@Ghostmaker: For now, I´m trying to get all of them to a standard where I can feel good putting them on a table (I hate gaming with unpainted models), and as I get all of them to that stage, I´ll start on mud and dirt.

What is the over all quality of them? I have been wanting to make an Elysian Drop Troop army but I have heard a lot of negatives about the quality of FW stuff.
