Thanks for coming by! This thread is to chronicle this build and painting. My gaming group has a 2 day campaign coming up on July 12th. One of the things being done is a painting and conversion contest for special characters. Mine is Mega Armored Warboss Toegnasher. So, I have to build and paint this fella by that date...no mean feat for my amount of spare time. Sorry the pics aren't the best, I took them at 3:30 and need to work soon ! I will use my light tent tomorrow.

I have been dying to make a Big Super Badass Bad Moons Warboss using a defiler claw, and here is my chance! I got a couple basic things done tonite, which started with me rampaging through one of my (too) many bitz boxes looking for parts. In the following pictures, you can see my progress so far, as well as some of the bitz I have chosen. So without further rambling, Le Pics:

I plan on making some big shoulder pads via kitbashing and plasticard. I will of course be building a ridiculous power supply to juice the powerklaw, and I am going to build an over the top shoota arm as well. Also, I will be making a GrotBot as an attack squig.

Comments, criticism, ideas and general cheerleading encouraged and appreciated! :drooler:

That's an impressively huge klaw! Would love to see a picture of it more 'assembled' to see how it fits with the rest of the body.....

Those pics will be coming soon! I can't wait to see this come together, I hope it comes out how I envision it. The fun part is the deadline...this is going to be interesting!

I should be able to get the legs affixed to the torso this evening. Thats my goal for tonite, as well as bulking up the torso. I may also put an additional layer of plasticard on the feet to give them a bit more durability.

I had been planning on using Thraka's Power Claw to give my Warboss a nice big weapon, but I really like the Defiler idea you've got there, and I happen to have some various parts of one, including the claws, around so I may have to steal that idea.

So, I went over the top again. I wanted to make a big, nasty gun with barrels bristling everywhere. I think I will be adjusting it (as I have several times tonite) but I am getting there. I need to watch how many times I redo things because time is definately an issue.

Hydraulics have been started for the shoota arm. I also put on some shoulder pads, and I still need to put battle damage on the left one. I finished the base, but I need to work on connecting the hips to the torso. That will be tomorrow nights challenge. I am going to bust out the dremel and pin it nicely, and go from there.

I tried to GS the feet, and MAN am I utter garbage with putty. Oh well, all in experience and I already started filing. I will finish filing tomorrow, and hopefully that will help smooth things out. I am also going to start thinking a bit more about the engine.

Well, it's 4:30 and it's my day to get up with my daughter. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

You won't have to wait long, covenant84 . I plan on having the build done tonite!

I made the gun much more worky, and took it from a Battle Cannon to a Kustom Mega Blaster type of weapon. I still haven't been able to attach the torso and legs, no collet for my dremel and the batteries in my drill are dead! Speaking of dead batteries, same thing goes for my camera. Sorry for the blurry shots. I will be back with more updates soon!

Thanks guys, back to work!

pretty sweet so far...

correct me if i'm wrong, but is the barrel of his shoota arm a battle cannon from a leman russ?

can only see one flaw in an awesome model, due to the size of his arms, he may end up looking like a gorilla (but then again with the fact that you are using what appears to be the legs from a space marine dread and space marine shoulder pads as toe-caps, i think we may be ok on that front
(p.s. will be stealin shoulder pad toe caps for my warboss when I get enought money/time to purchase n paint)

That thing is looking awesome. Loving it, loving it, loving it!

One question though.... Where did you get the head from? I've seen the armoured helmet head a few times now and haven't quite spotted where it comes from!

Keep up the good work!

Thanks guys!

Yes, that is indeed a Leman Russ Battle Cannon. I almost used a Baneblade cannon...but that will have to wait until next time

He may look a bit gorilla like, but I kinda had the art for Ghaz in mind while doing this. His arms look very long.

The head is from the Black Orcs banner. I just cut off the horns, and added in a soopa zoomy shoota scope.

Well I just got home, so work will progress once again. I plan on finishing up tonite and starting paint tomorrow. I have a battlewagon I will be painting at the same time.

We are almost there, bbb

So here is an update: I got him pinned and put together at the waist. I also went ahead and put a magnet in his base (circled in green) as well as in one of his feet. I think I am going to try and add one to the rhino door as well, because he slips around a bit and it's tricky getting him to stay on. This is such a fun project, I can't believe I am getting this done so fast. I am pretty confident that the painting will go fast as well.

As far as the build goes, I still have to build a soopa crazy powah supply. But I think I have just the bits to do it, and can hopefully get it done tonite. I will wind up priming him tomorrow, and maybe getting to paint tomorrow night. We have a wedding to go to tomorrow. Wish me luck, and thanks for checking this out!

Ok! So this is it, tomorrow it goes to the paintshed. If anyone catches anything or has a last minute suggestion, let me know! I will be reading this tomorrow before I start painting.

I detailed the shoes, built the soopa powah supply, and added a bosspole...because I like it. I hope you guys do to. Here are the pics:

As much as I want to put more rivets on the battlewagon right now, I need to get a lil nap in. Tomorrow is going to be a long day.

Nice job. I agree the right arm looks a little flimsy compared to the rest of it, but it might look fine once painted. Good conversion work!

Good thing I have another hydraulic piston ready to go . I kinda forgot to put it on after I built the powa supply, so I will add it in tonite when I start base painting.

That's one awesome mega-armor. I think the arm holding the gun could use a little more work, but besided that I really dig it. The Gun is fantastic.

So on recommendation, I added a bit to the gun arm as it seemed a bit weedy. I added another hydraulic piston in. It needs another touch up on the priming anyway.

So, let me know what ya think, lads. I will be priming again right now. I have a family party, so I will come back and check later. If you have any recommendations or notice anything amiss, let me know and I will address it. Other than that, Let the painting begin!!!

I already started painting and all of the skin is done . So far I have only blocked in my yellows...but I think the pattern will be cool. Tonite I am going to to tighten them up, and then block in my metallics.

I usually use a fine detail brush to paint everything...but have started to break that cycle. It used to take me forever to get anything done. This time I used a big brush with sloppy strokes, the brush is bigger than a tank brush. Hopefully it will take less time for me to tighten up the lines than it would for me to be ultra careful with the 00 brush.

No pictures, as it doesn't look like much to look at. I also have to built a GrotBot and paint it as well as finish putting rivets on my battlewagon and painting that. It would be nice if I could find time to finish assembling and then paint the 12 Killa Kans I have as well....by Saturday. Hmmm, dunno if that will happen

So, paint has started. I started on the base first, and it's pretty much finished. I am going to add some more glue, and then put some flock on top of whats there already. I first painted everything like normal, all the reds have 3 layers etc. Then, I stippled vermin brown and scorched earth. I think it came out ok, but could be a bit better and I will take another pass at it. I think it's mainly because I was already painting on top of red. After the stippling, I hit the red areas with some Sepia and Ogryn Flesh wash. A drybrush of Codex Grey and Graveyard Earth for the rubble and that is it for paint on the base.

On Toegnasher, I made a mess out of him yesterday with the yellow. I went through and tightened it up a bit with black. I still need to do another foundation layer in yellow, as well as paint the metallics. That is going to happen tomorrow night. Here are tonites progress pics:

Wow, sweet! The bright yellow is exactly not what I was expecting for a color scheme, but it looks great! I'm also loving the metal skull - where did you find it?

Well, he is a Bad Moons boss...but he won't be that bright for long That's just the foundation coat on him, but the base is finished. I still have to block in the metals on the boss as well. I am really surprised at how fast I have been able to paint him, usually the base coat takes forever and ever...

The head is from the Black Orcs Banner. I cut off the horns....and thats it I have a thing against horns and topknots, .

It's the new Foundation Paints yellow Iyanden Darksun. I watered it down and then painted about 4 or 5 layers on with a big brush. I still need to do another layer of it straight out of the bottle, especially on the legs.
