This will be a slow blog, as this waiting somewhat for the new codex/rules set. I love the back story of the Celestial Lions, a Chapter doomed because they were too naive to believe that there would be no consequence for questioning the =][=. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Celestial_Lions

I see it as a mainly Codex Chapter. I don't know if there is any back story relating to whom there Progenitor Chapter is, but I see them as an analog of the Crimson Fists. A chapter beaten down and kicked in the teeth, trying to hold on and rebuild as best they can.

I just wanted to get some WIP pics up of my boys. I nixed the blue helmet , it just didn't look right to me.

Adding some Terminators. Yes, they're the old metals. Sue me.

Added red trim to the shoulders denoting third company and painted the banner background on the sgt. I'm probably going to add a green-stuff lion head to the banner.

Look good, though it would be nice to see how you are doing the shoulder pads, how you made the original mould etc

I don't have any pics of the mould making process, but I can take pics of the moulds I currently use.

Please note, that the only thing you should mould is SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE CREATED YOURSELF. Because othewise you're breaking IP laws.

The process is pretty simple.

1. Take a shoulder pad, sculpt the symbol you need on it. Let it cure (I do it overnight, or do it in the morning before work. I'm paranoid about it.)

2. Build a mould box to contain the green stuff you'll be using. This is where the legos come in. Make it high enough to contain the pad.

3. Mix up the green-stuff, and put it in the bottom of the box. It should fill up at least to the height of the shoulder pad.

4. COAT YOUR ORIGINAL IN A MOULD RELEASE. IE, cooking oil. If you skip this step, you've just wasted a ton of GS.

5. Press the orginal into the GS, so that the icon to be moulded is all the way down into the GS.

6. LET IT CURE.

After that, just pop the original out. Then, mix up some GS, coat it in mould release, and then put it into the mould. Use a shoulder pad to press the gs in the mould so that the finished icon will conform to a marine shoulder pad.

Looks good so far. The only thing I'd add is something on the Sgt's banner.

Very nice work so far, particularly the shoulder pads. I'd like to see the eyes and the tubing at the back of the knee a different colour tho, I think it would make a big difference.

I'm somewhat undecided as to what to put on his banner. I'll look at various heraldry schemes and add to it. Whatever I do, it will likely be sculpted, which I'm better at than freehand. Note that's "better at" not "great at."

The eyes will likely be jade green, and I prefer black for the soft armor sections. They're still WIP, so it's just one of those things I haven't gotten to yet. Thanks for the advice.

I ended up doing a little work on the captain. Here's the mould I use for my termie shoulder pad icons as well. I use a termie arm that I'm not using on a model to press the green stuff into the mould until it sets.

The captain is still very much a WIP, BTW.

Got a bit more work done on the Captain today.

Man, I'm really looking forward to Black Reach. I can't wait for those new tacticals. They'll dove-tail nicely into my planned force. I'm a little hesitant to proceed forward, what with a new codex around the bend.

I also happened to pick up a new dev squad that I'm putting to the side for the same reason. Who knows what the codex has in store for us...

I'm trying to get ideas for an Apothecary dreadnought. He's armed assault cannon/dccw/hf. The apothecary aspect won't have any in game effect, but I thought it would be neat given their background. does anyone know of any drills/saws on servo arm bits off the top of their head? Hmmm... I might have to go buy fabius bile...

Now that the old school contest is over, I can finally post more captain pics.

I've also assembled:

1. 4 more tac marines to fill out tac 1.

2. ten more tac marines for tac 2.

3. two five man dev squads that I'll be bulking out to ten men.

4. A dreadnought.

You've got some mould lines showing on your regular troops' helmets.

The old :Ultraicon: captain really has presence!

Nice to see the CLs get some love. They're all over the place in Armageddon fluff - about time someone steps up and gives 'em the attention GW intended =)

Thanks, Arkion. I know there are mold lines, but for a basic trooper... To me, that kind of stuff only shows up on a macro lens. I'm trying to get better about it, but I can only do so much.

The chaplain dread from FW inspired me to make something similar for the CL. It's their last Apothecary, wounded on Armageddon, interred in a metal tomb for all time, sense dulled by long sleep and the haze of machines. It has no in game effect, other than to be a venerable dread, but I thought it fit well into their background. I like the spidery feel of it.

I want to place a wounded trooper beneath him. I figure that the limbs are usually folded in the main torso when not in use.

Your thoughts...

I love that dread! After all, why wouldn´t there be an apothecary dread, when there are chaplain dreads?

One thing got me thinking though.. If he´s the last apothecary, who put him in the sarcophagus in the first place?

Some Pre-paint work and some work on the devs.

I've got two dev squads assembled, both ten man, one with ML x 4, and one with PCx4. one tactical (shown below) with HB, PW, and Flamer, two Rhinos, and soon a third. Once I get the black reach box, look to see another tactical squad, and the termies. Look to ebay for the dread.

Look up "green stuff casting" and it will give you all the answers, fiend. But in the main, I sculpted the symbol on a shoulder pad, and casted copies from there.

The amount of gold and bright blue is really eye catching especially when fielded together in the last pic.

are the gold washed by any chance? from some pics it appears to lack definition .

I decided to upgrade my librarian to have a 3+ invulnerable save. I had an old 3rd edition terminator libby, and I decided to cut out the storm bolter, switch the axe to the right hand, and then attach a brettonian shield to make a storm shield for him. I used an old empire shield boss, and greenstuffed the Lion head in above it.

I like Celestial Lions and you did a fine army for them. I like many aspects, the Ultracaptain is very fitting. I also made a Lions mould, but yours is better.
