I just thought I would share - here is what I have finished for my Heavy Bolter Devastator Squad - so far just the 4 HB, Sgt., and Ensign Ricky.

I Extreme Highlight my guys, so for those of you that like "blending" these guys really don't have it.

I am over in China right now, so I just paint what I have on my free time...most of my army is still back in the US though. They will be based once I take them home

Here is one without the flash. I think it looks closer to real life.

Also, my friend asked my why some of the HB back packs are different. My goal when building this army was to make each person different - either by paint or by conversion. For example:

Sgt has hand painted banner
Ensign Ricky has a shield (no game purpose) and Black Templar Chest
HB 1 Metal Back Back- Chaos Head with Pony Tail - also the right shoulder of the gun was cut off and I used the metal Dev Squad Shoulder Pad
HB 2 Red Back Pack - Tyranid Bit on Right shoulder with Purity Seal (showing it to have been purified right...hehe)
HB 3 Blue BP with U - Tyranid Bits around the waste adding a bit of extra protection
HB 4 Blue - Farily normal with the Dev Sqad Chevron painted on Knee Cap

All the guys have the UM Metal shoulder pad on the left shoulder

Here are some other photos to show it a little better.

Beautiful marines. Ultras do look very nice when done so well, with all the bling - metal pads, red helmets on vets, red guns.

Looking good. My Ultramarines would be proud to stand next to yours on any tabletop (though yours would be the better looking).

I'm not usually a fan of Ultramarine color schemes, but the metal colors you are using really tie the red and blue together nicely - very clean. And frankly, I think your extreme highlights look really good on these guys.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

Great work with the extreme highlights, it does work well with the UMs.

Are you going to base them before you head back to the US?

Waaagh,

No, I don't have any of my basing stuff here with me, I will have to seal and base them after I get back.

Old Man UM,

Yes, I use the metal shoulder pads for all my guys.

My intention is also to finish a battle company. I am nearly there...I will post pics of the rest of the army when I can.

thanks for posting these. I have been having a great debate with myself over how to highlight the shoulder pads on my marines and your method looks great.
