Is it a bad sign when all of a sudden you realize that you pretty much own another army out of the figures you have for other forces?

I happened to be looking at what I need to do to move my Marines into 5th Edition, this includes removing the second Assault Cannon from my 3 old school Terminator squads and replacing it with the storm bolter arm I luckily saved.

Additionally, I plan on buying the 40k Starter set, which gives me another 5 Terminators, one of which will swap places into my squad that currently has 2 Cyclone Missile Launchers in it, giving me 2 squads with one CML each.

Given that I somehow already had an Assault Terminator squad, 2 Dreads (Plus the one from the new starter set), and a LRC - all that I actually need to field a fairly large Deathwing army is a Terminator commander to count as Belial....

Of course it will be "Ultra-wing", but regardless I find it almost frightening that I've been collecting mini's enough that I find I have a complete 2500+ point variant marine army out of existing figures plus the stuff I'll get from the starter set.

But then this means I'll be playing with the Dark Angels Codex, which is almost as frightening as the above.

You'll feel better stomping fools with DA's. Our codex sucks and everyone knows it, people cannot blame a loss on a cheesy list when beaten by DA's....so go nutz!

Azrael in a command squad is the cats meow by the way. 7 str 6 attacks on the charge, waahoo!

I have never failed to seize on 4+ in my life!

I wonder what it would take to play 1500 or 1750 with Deathwing, something tells me it won't be much of an army.

And I'd only use DA rules for playing what I call a "Pure" Deathwing army - Termies, Land Raiders, and Dreads. For all other Marine goodness, I'll be using the normal Codex.

Something tells me you are right.

Pure DW and RW is really all the DA codex should be used for, other than special characters. Everything else is basically Codex Astartes adherent anyways, so why bother with the DA codex?

But as someone who used to play pure deathwing in third and early 4th prior to the vomit GW calls a DA codex, I would say go for it if for no other reason than cool nostalgia points.

Your army is going to suck 'six ways to sunday', but when you do win, it will be pretty awesome.

(On a side note: in fun, semi-serious games if I am playing Pure DW (dreads, LR, termies) then my opponents don't have a problem in allowing me to take 2 heavies in a Termie squad. In that environment, they need it and most opponents agree that it is hard enough winning by that three unit formula without further reducing their effectiveness by removing the second heavy weapon)

Hands up if you have an old school Deathwing with two assault cannons!

I did it back in third before you even got rending assault cannons! Now I'm on my Lysanderwing, and my dual assault cannon squads now get to "Counts As" a singe assault cannon!

Could always just use Black Templars and keep rolling with las/plas and twin AC terminator squads...

Hellfury said it best. Onyl use for the Dark Angels codex is Ravenwing and Deathwing and special characters. I look at it this way. The soon to be current Space Marine codex is basing a lot of its changes on the Dark Angels codex. It has taken what works and replaced what does not. Personally outside of those variants I find there is little difference from the units of either codex other than the variety of the new Space Marine codex.

That's just delaying the inevitable and I don't see much of a point to doing that.

Don't feel bad, I've been working on a Deathwing army for a bit and finally have the 37 terminators I need to run it. For it's first game in went against the new Orks and got wiped out except for the standard bearer. On the plus side I had a great time running it, and it slapped the Orks around pretty well in close combat to the point the Orks didn't have a lot left either.
