This idea has been in the works for quite a while and only now has started to take physical shape. The idea comes with the annual 40K team tournament that occures every February. The past two years that we have played in it my team-mate and I have won the Best Appearance prize with what ever army I was painting at the time. Fine and dandy but 2009 I want to step it up a bit as this will be the last year that I will play in it with intent to move out of state next summer. The new Ork army is seductive as I have over one bajillion Orks, but they have been assembled over the course of 19 years thus there is little consistency in style between them. My buddy has played Chaos for years and figured that it would be an easy combo dispite my long standing disgust with the ancient history of there having once been Chaos Tainted Orks at one point green!
Philosophy and rambling aside, the project; we have to assemble 2 1,000 pt armies each within the force org requirments but both not to exceed a single chart. Thus we must have 2 HQ's, 4 Troops and no more than 3 of each of the other slots. There are some other requirments, but they are irrelevant. So far the list is as such:
+Chaos lord on Bike with mark of Nurgle and a Daemon Weapon.
+Warboss on bike with a power Klaw
+3, 12 man units of Boyz with a nob sportin a power Klaw and a Trukk each.
+2, 7 man units of Plague Marines with various upgrades and a Rhino each
+5 man Chaos Marine unit with a few Melta Guns and a Rhino
+9 man Ork Bike Unit with nob rockin a Power Klaw
+Defiler with three dread Close Combat weapons and either the reaper or the Flamers.
+2, 2 Kan units with Shootas.

The trick has been to tone down the ammount of nurglification that Plague Marines have and throw more Mad Max-ish-ness into them all the while beefing the ammount fo plague in the Orks. I love the way that the old school Plague Marines looked, they had a rag-tag WWII feel to them over the pussy and mutated versions we have today. as such I have only a few ideas on how to mod the Orks.
now that I have bored you all to death with my balthering, here is the real reason any of us bother looking at the M&P section; PICTURES!!!

First is the idea for the Defiler, more of a slugish, lumbering beast:

The eyes, three arms, big jaw and klaws. It would look more like a small Stompa than a crawly Defiler. I am not sold on this concept as such as the body and jaw are somewhat at odds with one another.

Second is a sketch or a marine.

Ork styled shoulder pauldrons, canister of plague junk instead of a power source, exhaust pipes like any good Mad Dok would pump out and with an extended collar with a few teeth reminiscent of Gorka Morka Digga Nobs, and a smaller Ork Choppa and Slugga.

Now a WIP of the Torso.

The Power Source.

The canister is a lil high up and too wide for my taste so far and the exhaust tubes stick out to much and not up enough. But you get the idea.

Next step is to get off my lazy ass, get some guitar cables and keep working on him.

I know it is a lil early in production, but figured if I threw what I have so far out there to the wolves it will inspire me to work on the army. What do you all think so far? Are there any suggestions or leads to other Nurgle-Ork armies out there? Any good movies to help inspire this mess? Your turn!

No... Actually, it looks like a rough sketch of a 2-legged defiler.
Plus... your post wasn't very helpful.

To the OP:

To get it straight... You're using Chaos rules, but Chaos AND Ork minis?

Thanks for the back-up, MagickalMemories. the way the Tourney works is that you have 2 x 1,000pt armies of any orentation but it has to be justified fluffwise. So you could run with Chaos and Dark Eldar, Marines and Sisters, two Necron armies, etc. This would be 1k of Nurgle and 1K of orks. Sorry if I was not too clear in the initial post.
The list is not set in stone, minor deviations can and might occur if it tends to get mopped too often or some other model conversion sounds important. More important than tactical viability I want it to look good.

I love the idea! Nurgley orks and orky nurgle marines. Sweet!

As for execution. I agree with the things youve already pointed out. The canister is to wide. Id do a thick and short canister that fit between the exhausts that point more up. I think Id go with slightly smaller rivets too. And a few more teeth on the jaw.

Other than that. Its awesome. A brilliant conversion idea.

No, if all smart alex sees is scribble, then all he sees is scribble. He sees what he sees. I have to admit I do not agree with him entirely. That having been said, I would have to say that the execution on tha marine model is really good. Are you planning on converting up the entire army that way, or are you going to cast some of your work? I dunno abuot that caniter being too wide. If it is, it's only by an RCH. I have to admit that having a Nurgle/Orc army sounds like a bit more of a mashup than I would be tossing money at, however, if that is the muse in your mind motivating you to produce work like that then by all means keep going! I'm very interested in seeing future pieces. That's the one thing I'm not too fond of here in Modeling and Painting; all the cool stuff that I want to see more of really needs to be over in P&M Blog. I would hope you would start a blog over there on this stuff, so's we can see how it rolls out.

any where they sell hooch!

having too intimate an understanding into your mind, this all makes too much sense and my biggest problem is you haven't done this yet.... .

so keeping with things I know you love, maybe the Power Supply should be an upright canister, more like an Orkish Welding tank or something with breather tubes leading to the nozzle?! the Exhaust tubes are great, if you go with the upright bit than they can point upwards more, I realize this means an almost entirely custom back pack but think of all the things you're going to be able to do with those guitar strings!

as for the Orks, going Nurgle... the ol' Zombie box comes to mind... Orks is all ready bloated, green an' nasty... maybe go with the German WWII look you were mentioning about the ol' school Plague Marines and instead of Choppa's you could use kinda blocky plague swords

my 38 cents..

Its all good. The plasticard I got as a Hobby/Train/Modeling/nerd shop here in Anchorage and I can not remember the manufacturer's name off hand but i will get back to you on that. I know Evergreen is a manufacturer that I have bought stuff from before. Anyway, the round shoulderpads is from plastic tube that was cut into shape and the canister is also from tube with flat car on either end that I rounded down by scraping an X-Acto blade across it. Never got around to learning how to use a file. Super easy. Good luck and I look forward to seeing your creations!

Very nice, can't wait to see it painted. With the right colors, this will turn out great.

Might I suggest a few modeling ideas:
-Demonic Orks, with rotten wounds, 3rd eyes and other nurgly stuff
-a lot of burnaz, but not as flamethrowers, but more sort of "slime-cannons".

Now let the Waaagh rock...eh I mean rot on
