so, I was fiddling around the other day on dakka, and i looked at grey death's random WIP thread and saw his scratch sculpted nurgle demon prince.....I was like, "WHOA!! AWSOME!" and then i thought, what if i made an entire demons army from scratch!! that would be cool. i'd do it as a nurgle theme and scratch sculpt all the models.....so I decided to do it(maybe a bad idea) and i decided to do a blog about it here on dakka. an ork by nature i would say that was pretty kunnin'. basically the army will consist of 1 greater demon of nurgle, one bloodthirster, twenty plague bringers and 10 nurgling swarms(this is all off the top of my head, tell me if im over 1000 points). now, this army is probably gunna suck, because my sculpting is not even close to as good as grey death's, but ill try and the end result should be good for some laughs.

I finished one greater demon and got to work on the bloodthirster. BTW im also using some bitz out of my box but rest assured there will be no body parts or anything that would take away from the scratch sculpt theme. Now remember im realling new to sculpting so dont be overly harsh, here are the pics of the WIP bloodthirst and the finished greater demon:

but thats gonna look really sweet when all finished

looks like a casserole. i think you shud put more little details, such as tentacles, teeth or sores. and try smoothing out the bloodthirster maybe?

what medium are you using to sculpt?

hmm, iv got to agree with klotz, this all looks very original but very hard.

when its done, no offence intented, its either gonna look totally awesome or disapointinly poor IF it is combined with genuine GW units such as chaos marines or a defiler that are all smooth and refined compared to a (although fantastic) scratch built home made figures

well, i know i lack the testicular fortitude to undertake such a project, so i wish you the best of luck. i must admit though i do like what i have seen so far : )

you may want to sculpt two or three poses out of brown and green stuff and cast them to get a smoother, better quality model.

I'm sorry dude, that penis just looked like a penis. I had a bunch of guys at the store look at it, and they think it's a very well sculpted penis. So hats off to ya man, you're good with your fingers. Keep up the good work, don't let any of the guys here drag you down. I look further to seeing more of your work in porn shops across the land. Good luck on this project man, I don't think I envy you in your task to make this happen. Too much work for me.

okay guys......you obviously have eyesight problems or bad testosterone levels cuz it doesnt even look like a penis....the camera angle is just bad.

I will agree that you probably don't want to try to make an army out of your first attempts. Just like the first few models anyone paints are pretty embarrasing in hindsight.

I'd suggest you try sculpting one model the best you can. Then try starting over again applying the techniques you learned.

After a few attempts you'll probably get a result that is much more pleasing to everyone.

@yakface: so what ur saying is you want me to redo all the other models and start over.....ill think about it but i do really like my slugish thing.

anyway heres the pictures of the first prototype of the plaguebringers. THIS IS NOT A FINAL VERSION. its just to see what looks good and what i can do.
also ive thrown in pics of my WIP squiggoth. BTW pleeez dont make any comments on the elephant trunk of the plaguebringer, its not a penis!

BTW i cut off the penis on the thirster and BTW the finished plaguebringers are gonna be made outa greenstuff not crappy Prang.

I do see some detail. Your camera isn't doing much for showing your figures. Throw a piece of black paper behind figure when taking pictures. It will show detail and contrast.

okay look man keep trying, use wire to make a skeleton for the fig, and use green stuff. Keep on trying until it looks good.

Personally I wouldnt attempt sculpting an entire army. Converting one yes, but not sculpt. Id pick one fig and sculpt and thus add to the army one at a time. Id start with that big mean cannon carrying tusked 4leg. Its cool! Can we get photos with a marine next to it for size comparison?

so i trashed the 'thirster and decided to make a nurgle demon prince instead. the problem is i think hes way too big. is 5 inches tall and 3 inches wide too big? yeah i thought so.
heres the pics anyway, hes made out of sculpey.

If you're having troubles with everything coming out too big, you may want to consider sculpting in stages. Give yourself a general outline of the shape that you'd like (I believe someone mentioned using wire as a support, which is always a great idea) and let it dry. Once it dries you can add more sculpting material on top and build from there -- that way everything isn't running together and you'll be able to keep it smaller while still having detail.

and also ya i did use an armature for this guy but since i didnt have any wire handy at a hotel in sanfranscisco i had to use a pencil....damn!

i got paint on the demon prince and the great unclean one.
i think that the demon prince looks alot better with paint, much better. also i think the great unclean one looks pretty fine. but thats just me .
the DP still needs some greenstuff around where part of his tail meets the ground, as you can see theres a open space between the base and the tail. also the DP has a cane....why? i dont know. i thought about calling him "old man apostasy".

i really like that dp like thing that was your latest sculpt. I like the innards coming out

sorry but your dp looks like a ball of play doe stack on top of each other. it lacks shape even for a nurgle daemon and lacks detail. and the paint seems like you just put blotches per part. i only suggest to put more details that could maybe add shape.
