Here is my ogre army. Not all of it, because some of it has next to no conversions and isn't painted well and thus isn't worth the disk space on my computer. But anyway, I started this back in... 2004. And it's still ongoing. Which proves two things seemingly contradictory things 1. I am lazy and 2. I am dedicated. Overall, I bought (in this order) 1 battalion and a tyrant, 1 butcher, 1 bull unit, 1 hunter or scraplauncher (the order isn't important with these), 1 battalion, 1 butcher. My first purchase was actually the army book and a bull unit, which was a test unit. I built them according to the box, thought they were posed badly, and have ignored them unless I feel like getting bits off them, which never works. I still need to get a few things, but probably won't, unless someone gives me a large sum of money. The great thing about getting battalions is that you get a heap of bits to mix and match, allowing you to customise your units.
First of all, my Ironguts unit. Nothing much that's special. They transport the tyrant around, and try to get into combat with the biggest, hardest unit around, often wiping one of them out. Great fun, but they tend to get shot at a lot. The banner was made by chopping it up, pinning it back together, drilling the holes, and then threading the thread.
Second, the elite (1337) bull squad. It used to transport a butcher into combat, but then I decided that having the butcher in combat was not ideal, so I added another member. They are a mixture of ironguts, bull and leadbelcher bits. The reason that some of them have red lips is that I tried it on the one with the Great, Big, Bushy Beard! [/Hot Fuzz quote], and it looked pretty good. I didn't realise that it looked bad on the others until too late. Still, they are my favorite unit. I tried to make the banner look like it told the unit's history, but it didn't work that well. Still, nice to have trophies.
Here is one of the smaller bull units. It's the first proper unit that my army ever had. A few conversions, taking care not to make them look like they are supposed to on the box. Unfortunately, they are still blue, after I got the proportions of the ogre skin basecoat wrong. Still, they were better than my attempts at making the ironguts dark skinned.
Here is the other small bull units. Made between battalions, I didn't have as many parts for conversions, but they still turned out pretty well. The banner is short due to the fact that it kept on breaking due to my transport methods and thus it kept on having to be shortened to pin it.
And here's a photo of the guy with the flail. Because he is hardcore.
Here is my first butcher. The bangstick was taken out of that
wd article, but I tried to make it a bit more arcane. Hence the skull with glowing eyes and the bones hanging off it. I think I overdid the blood a little.
Here is the other butcher. I first showed him on the favorite models thread. He was my first attempt a repositioning an arm with a saw and he went pretty well. The saws are brilliant. It's a pity that they break after not that much use. The blood was applied with the flicking of a toothbrush. Probably just as overdone as the first one, but at least it's overdone with style. The beard isn't as good as some of my previous ones.
The hunter. Nothing much to see here. I converted it so that he was actually holding the spears, but that didn't turn out that well. The saber cats were converted so that they actually looked at the enemies and not at the ants.
Finally, the gnoblars. There aren't any pictures of the units, as they are rather boring and unpainted, but here is one of my favorite units. I give you, the cannon. It counts as a dogs of war cannon, which makes the crewmen better fighters than the units of gnoblars. The conversions were fun to do, although I lost the one giving orders at a beachhouse and had to remake him. The others were also pretty fun. I probably should have gnoblified the cannon a bit more, but I like to think that they really take care of it and don't let any other gnoblars anywhere near it. It probably has the patronage of the tyrant. Sometimes I march it up with the ogres so I can grapeshot units as they try to get into combat with the ogres.
And here are some gnoblar conversions, soon to be part of a larger force for Witch Hunter (the
WHFB version of =][=. Read more about it on the-conclave.co.
uk). The one with the spear is from the scaplauncher, and the shamany one is from a necrarch familiar. The face was filled off and a nose was added instead.
That's all, if you have any questions, fire away. Hope you liked the models.
