Right, so this winter my gaming group is going to have a bit of Necromunda fun.

In part inspired by mister Migs and his finnish group, we´ve decided that it´s gonna be "a bit Inquisitor-ish".

We´ll be using the Ash Wastes ruleset, since it has some good vehicle rules, and then we´ll modify them as and when we need to.

I got grabbed by inspiration the other day, and started hacking a Land Speeder to bits. Partly inspired by the new scout speeder, partly by all the war movies with Huey´s and Black Hawks carrying specialist infantry to mission hot spots, I decided that i´d need to have room for at least four guys in the back, and the ability to mount door guns. I´m thinking heavy stubbers are probably the best option.

So basically, i started by cutting the speeder in half. I cut it right in front of the engine intake on top, so I could extend it about 4-5cm. I then put in new seats, from a pair of sentinels that didn´t need them anymore, and added various extra stuff.

But hey, as ever, a picture sez more, so here you all go. All comments/questions/critique is welcomed.

There is one thing that I have doubts about. Roof or no roof? I can´t really decide, so maybe I´ll leave it as an option, it stays on without glue, and is not needed for model stability.

Without roof. Better or worse?

With roof. Thoughts?

This is excellent work. I think it needs the roof. Right now the central railing and the rear firewall and upper cowling look incomplete without the roof there.

That's one fine piece of kit! I really like the use of metal mesh for a sense of scale. I much prefer it without the roof actually. Heavy stubbers would be the coolest guns for the doors. The new ork truck would have tons of nice gubbins for work like this. (I got one for my ride, which clearly I now need to start building!)

Xanthos, it's time - start a blog and get working on the models, now!

The bit stuck on the side of England. Wales isn't it.

Top work fella . Would they count as skimmers or maybe as a valkyrie....Hmm , three or four "count as valkyries" , made out of converted land speeders dropping troops into the thick of the action. I feel my conversion muscle twitching.

Wow, thanks for all the comments.

Cuscus: Yeah, if I ditch the roof, I´ll have to cover up the rear section and do extra stuff for the railing. Still thinking about it...

Migs: I can certainly see your guy´s posse cruising around in that Ork Trukk, can´t wait to see what you make of it. And yes, I know, I do need to start a blog.

I´ll have to see next weekend about getting some painting done.

JD: I do remember those IG speeders, have the WD actually, but I purposefully haven´t opened it while working on this (and for about two years before), since it would have influenced me.

Sometimes it´s fun to just jump in and sort it out without pointers.

Vodski: Thanks. I´ll use this as a transport option for my "Acquisition Contractors" gang in an upcoming Necromunda campaign.

After that, who knows, maybe some inquisitor will requisition it..

to be honest, even if you did it looks alot better, his look like they are about to crash, too much weight in them and barely any looks, just a speeder, cut in half and added some plain plasticard.

Top on. It makes the speeder look more structurally sound. Without the top, the only thing holding front to back are the floorboards.

job's a gud 'un! I like both with and without the roof--any way you can magnetize it or be able to swap it out as an option?

Hmm, looks like most people like it with the roof, I like the idea of the roof being an addon feature, so I may need to do something there.

I´d like for it to be removable at the least, so I can do some more detailing inside and have it visible...

Hopefully I´ll have time to do undercoat and base colors tonight.

Heheh, interesting thought.....

Actually, I´ll probably be going for a light grey, and then weather that to hell and part of the way back.

Right, got the fixtures for the doorguns in place, undercoat and basecoat done.

I used an Airbrush that I bought recently to put on the basecoat, and it works just great! I had to thin the paint a bit (foundation Dheneb Stone), because it was waaaay too thick to go through the airbrush. But once I got the mix right, it was great working with, fast and very flat finish.

Next step will be applying a slightly darker grey for a bit of camo, and then the "real" painting can begin.

Lots and lots to do still, but the big modeling stuff is mostly done.

That is utterly awesome. I really want to make some of those now.

It does look like it wouldn't be out of place as a civilian vehicle in star wars either.

Thanks for the kind words.

I am going to try for an ex-pdf sortof look. And yeah, it´s got a bit of star wars going on at the moment.

Door guns are shaping up nicely, I´ll get some pics of them later today, and let you guys see what I´ve done so far.

Also, the pilot has been mostly assembled.

Making some progress here.

I´ve done the camo layer, and have started detail work on the speeder itself.

Air intake warning stripes done, as well as notice stripes for the weapon mounts.

And I´ve picked out some of the metal bits, these will of course be weathered substantially.

Coming up tonight (if I have time) is the interior. Pilot and copilot seats, rear walls and floor, and such things.

What do you guys think about the camo?

Looking very nice!! The semi compulsory yellow and black chevron makes such a nice detail even to camo schemes.

I'm starting to doubt whether doing a blog is a good idea either. You've gotten 25 replies for 800views, we've gotten 120 replies for 8000 views... Twice as much per views! No but seriously, please do a blog, that forum really needs help! It's a sad excuse in comparison to warseer and we need dakka exclusive blogs to get more of them here rather than us going there as seem to be the trend.

Apone: Thanks, I´m sorta trying to get a non-frontline feel across.

Not to worry Migs, that blog is a-coming! And I truly agree, we need to get more people over to the blog page.

Warseer, pah!

Again, thank you all for the kind words people. I´ll try to keep up the working pace that I´ve started, looks like I may even have time to paint more tonight. Yay.
