1500 points - three objectives - 12" long edge deployment zones
My Papa Nurghal list:
Biker lord w. MoN, Plaguebringer, icon
7x Nurghal Marines w. Pist, 2x flamer - rhino w. dozer blades
2x (7x Nurghal Marines w. Pist, 2x plasma - rhino w. dozer blades
2x Oblit
2x Oblit
2x Oblit
Opponent was fielding the new Space Marines:
Pedro Kantor
4x 10x tactical Marine w. ML, flamer, Pist
2x 5x Dev w. 2x PC & 2x LC
Dreadnaught
My opponent won the roll to deploy and go first. There was easily 25% terrain so lots of cover saves. The objective markers were in the middle of the table, one dead center, one on the edge of my DZ and the other on the edge of his DZ. My opponent split of his forces as such:
Kantor + 2x Tact + Devs over in his corner
2x Tact + Dev + dread over across from my corner
I opted to keep Oblits in reserve and huddled up all three rhinos behind cover with biker Lord behind them. I rolled to seize the initiative and up popped a 6... biggest roll of the game by far.
First turn all three rhinos roll up and are in position to hold 2 of the 3 objectives. Two lead transports pop smoke. Biker Lord stays behind rhinos to prevent the snipe shots. That is it.
My opponent fires everything he has into the two lead rhinos and come up empty.
Second turn all three of my rhinos move again creating a more spread out shield wall. Biker Lord pulls up behind closest rhino to enemy line and will be ready to launch an assault the next turn. One unit of Oblits come in from the cold and drop plasma templates on closest Imperial tact squad vaporizing four Marines.
My opponent runs the two tact squads in his far corner along with Kantor and the Dev squad. Dread moves up aggressively. The other half of his army destroy a rhino and kill two Nurghal Marines. Remaining 5 Nurghal Marines disembark to be in position to assault dread next turn. One Oblit is toasted by a lascannon. The central objective is key and will be a blood bath to control.
Third turn in comes another Oblit squad. Biker Lord pulls up to charge most forward Imperial tactical squad while one squad of Nurghal Marines disembark to support biker Lord. Both squads of Oblits target dread and all miss. Nurghal Lord and Nurghal Marines drench tactical squad covering central objective killing 7 out of 10. Nurghal squad that was forced to disembark last turn out of destroyed rhino assault dread, lose one then champion destroys the Imperial walker. I control two objectives out of three now.
My opponent drenches Nurghal Marines that toasted the dread and bring them down to two. Kantor and other tactical squad by the central objective opt to rapid fire into Nurghal Marines rather than shoot pistol and charge... two dead Nurghal Marines.
Fourth turn in comes last Oblit squad from the cold. One squad of Nurghal Marines have been hunkering down behind rhino sitting on the objective beside my DZ. Biker Lord and Nurghal Marines plus two Oblit squads move up to destroy Kantor and tactical squad so as to control central objective. Two remnant Nurghal Marines from the dread battle hop into building and are in position to tie up Dev squad in assault. Shooting sees another 7 tactical Marines die then in assault Kantor and the last of the tactical Marines contesting central objective are destroyed.
My opponent does some shooting and runs up to control one objective my his DZ... too little too late. Time is called and Nurghal wins by a margin of 2 - 1 objectives.
Thoughts after game:
- As I said earlier winning the initiative to go first was huge and let my rhinos pull right to control objective and be in a position to contest another 1st turn. I think I could have probably only played for a draw otherwise. If your opponent has a lot of Hi-X shots rhinos are pretty easy to toast early on with new LOS rules. Still I am an advocate on transports as opposed to foot slogging it.
- Dozer blades are the new hotness for rhinos at only 5 points apiece. You only have to roll 1 dangerous terrain test regardless of how far the tank moves... pretty much you don't have to worry about being immobilized.
- I was using my Oblits to assault and all those Pist attacks were very helpful! In objective based missions I don't see a problem with throwing them out there in the open if you place them in position to do some critical damage.
- Biker Lord was the killer for sure... T6, 4+d6 attacks on the charge, re-roll wounds vs. T4 or less. More tactical than a daemon prince with only drawbacks being -1 to WS and vulnerable to insta-kill. Pedro was no match against him and the support from the Nurghal Marines and Oblits meant he did have to worry about a stray Pist punch coming his way.
Not sure how this army of mine would do in a KP mission... rhinos are easy kills and against a pure foot slogging army it would be an up-hill battle having to most likely kill at least three whole units for a draw... would have to try go for the easy KPs early on.

Note that dozer blades only work when the tank moves 6" or less, which I adhered to. For only 5 points apiece this is well worth it for a mechanized army.

Just for a little variety I would look into swapping an oblit squad for some termies. For the same points as one oblit squad you can get 4 termies w/ combi-plasma and two fists.
Using them to pump out the plasma for you I would switch the plasma guns in the rhino mounted squads to melta guns. Allowing you to shoot your guns and assault if needed. Using the two points left over from that you could give icons to those two squads to increase your deep strike options.
The list is solid the way it is. I just personally don't like taking three of the same thing.

I am planning on taking 2x melts... just have to model them now. My 1750 point list has 7x Possessed w. MoN in rhino. BTW I am using Epic Warhounds for my Oblits - the Hod came up with that idea.

If you are doing the possessed, for 1850, the greater daemon is a good buy. The possessed ac is about the most perfect model to replace. Plus the fact that the daemon can assault the turn he pops out (even if the ac was in the rhino) is really helpfull.

I have to say the GD is one of the best HQs in the codex if not the best... extremely cheap for what he can do. I think that is a great idea.
