Ok, I'm putting together all my old Praetorians and getting ready to paint them. But I have a question....Do I HAVE to base the Heavy Weapons? I have the old school 2 wheeled heavy bolter, autocannons, and lascannons. Also the mortar tubes are freestanding. So do I have to base them? Also, I've heard some people complain about certain base sizes being too big or possibly illegle in tourney play? Is this so? And is there an officila ruling or place I can go to for the rules on basing your minis? Thanks.

as long as the two guardsman manning have bases your fine. The current base is for ease of movement (why your heavy weapons are moving i don't know)

One can be, "Da Fist uv Mork" and the second can be, "Da Uvver Fist uv Mork."
Make a third, and it can be, "Da Uvver Uvver Fist uv Mork"

If your HW is 'ridden' by its gunner then its easier to just stick them on a larger sized base and the loader on a regular base.

For ease of use when I had preatorians I based everything, all heavy weapons included.

If you're just playing with friends, I wouldn't worry much about it. Just put the actual figures on bases and you'll be fine.

If you're going to be doing the tournament thing, I'd base them. Though you could easily make it so they are removeable from the base.

As to the base size, I'd use the same as the current heavy weapons teams come with. (40mm I think).

The current heavy weapon teams are on 60mm bases. I'd use that if you want to be 100% tournament safe.
I have used 40mm bases for mine. It looks right and as these models were either not supplied with bases or on 40mm cavalry bases no one should have a problem!
