Hello all,

fist time posting, been lurking for a few months (looking at others excellent modeling skills). I dont actually play WH40K but paint the models and love the fluff (I am currently reading the horus hersey novels (in the middle of descent of angles). I did used to play when I was 12 when 2nd edition was out.

Been reading ben counters grey knights series and been loving the fluff in it. And I have slowly been painting what I see as an inducted guard unit.

Below are some pics (apologies for slightly blurry pics, I had had a house fire rescently and have no lighting and I was using my carmera on phone.

the buggy idea was stolen from warseers firebase, using heavy weapons teams autocannons and halo 3 warthog - if someone wants to make rules for them go ahead - i was thinking counts as sentinal, but moves like bike, can carry independent characters (points cost anyone).

the last pic is an idea stolen from someone on this board - a officer armed with a "lancer" - i was thinking gamewise would either count as an officer with some form of ccw & (hell?)pistol or counts as an inquisitor (but is actually an interigator recruited from the IG officer corps, acting with inquisitorial authority as the crusty =][= is in orbit on a space ship as what occurs in dark adeptus).

let me know what you think.

Nice stuff! There used to be an scout and command version of the Chimera in one of the Imperial Armour books which could do as rules for the Warthog conversions, certainly got me thinking now...

Yay, not only are there buggys, but also a chainsaw bayonet lasgun.

If you give the warthogs heavy bolters as well, then they can be salamander scout vehicles, which are like basilisks in stats, but have an autocannon instead of a earthshaker cannon, and are a fast vehicle. Perfect for driving up the flanks and blasting tanks in the rear. In the Amoured Company list, they are 100pts, but in IA, it think they are 75.

thanks for the comments so far guys, although im not anywhere near the standard of most of the people who post on the forum, but i don't think the pics quite do the models justice, the cloth on the guardsman is not shiney and a bit more muted in colour. The wash on the tank is also a bit more sutble.

I am currently working on the HQ squad (Interigator + lancer, standard bearer, and vox-er) - when they are done I will try to take some pics if people are interested.

I am also working on a observation post - think of heavy bolter team, with vox, behind and surrounded by lots of sandbags, hidden under a camo net. This would be my "counts as" basalisk. Although I like the basalisk model (espesically the FW armageddon one), for me, due the calibur of the artillary piece, you would not find troops fighting with in-coming shells, and the weapon that fired them, on the same "board". And therefore, for me, the observation post allows to call in artillary fire on the area they are in. Not that I actually play but would people disagree with this in a game? - again, if people are interested, pic of model to follow once i have the cam net on - as so far it just looks like a heavy weapons team.

basically im also being a bit cheap as I dont want right now to shell out on a basalisk, I am just using left over bits from the IG battle force. Talking of which, lalabox - the salamander tank - are the heavy bolters fixed on on a "pintel"?, if people dont like the sentinal/bike combo idea, I could either attach the HB to the bonnet - fixed in a forward position, or on the passanger side like a space marine landspeeder? As I built the morter team, I have plenty of HW left over (minus 3 x autocannons - they went on the warthogs)

Next project to add to the army i think will be some grey knights in power armour deploying from a drop-pod. - as I said im not really going for a game legal army, more of a fluffy one - and in counters books the GK did deploy by drop-pod.

I wish the GK were plastic i don't particulary like the posses - the pics on the boxes and GW website all look a bit awkward - do they look better than the corporate pics?, However, the fluff idea of PAGK is fantastic - anyone got some good (reasonably cheap) methods of turning the plastic SM squad into GK?

One thing I stumbled on when taking pics: If you don't want the flash to reflect on the model put a piece of white paper over it. Enough of the light should still get through w/o the reflection. Having a few extra light sources at angles from the object will help reduce some of the shadow too. Nice stuff though.

Where are the Warthogs from btw? I've never played the video game associated w/ them but the models are definately cool.

I was originally going to do something like that for my army, except it was going to be a jeep. Now I just say that the guy on the right counts as 3 basilisks:

(Not really). But I wouldn't mind playing against that. It'd be pretty cool. Kudos if you can make it work well. And if you can explain how it can move.

This is what the official model looks like. It's a bit to big to be a scout vehicle, but that's how the HB is fixed on officially.

And here's my version. Fixed on like the landspeeder, because it is a landspeeder. Both would work, but I reckon that having the person in the passenger seat shooting it would be better.

rymafyr - the warthogs are from mcfarlane minatures (www.spawn.com), i picked mine up from my local comic-book/action figure shop. (for those in the UK, forbidden planet, 8 quid each). Thanks for the camera tip, ill try that when i have my HQ squad done.

lalabox - that salamanda is nice, but i don't really see it as "fast attack" - too clumsy looking. although i will look into the heavy bolter on the warthogs, although i still like the idea of them being fast but feeling a bit flimsy like a sentinal (open top variety).

Your buggy is nice, quite a gothic feel to it!- a war track-landspeeder combo - paint it red and the green skins will love it!.

With regards to the "basalisk", i dont think i would move it - perhaps they have some radar which allow shooting at everything within range (all indirectly perhaps?) i dont actually know the rules for the basalisk, I just thought it would fit the army better rather than have a massive piece of artillary attached to the =][=, but rather have a couple of guys who can control the fire from the position they are in with some clever map and compass work and radio skills.
