Guard Heavy Weapon Crewman
|
I just finished moving halfway across the country, and finally found some time to get pictures of the squad I've completed. The painted figures all seem to have weathered the trip nicely (due to many, many layers of foam wrapping), although it looks like I've lost the single base I completed. Let me know what you think of these guys. The attached pictures are: 1. The whole squad together. These are just ten ordinary lasgun-armed troopers, plus an officer, as I haven't started on special or heavy weapons yet (special weapons are coming next). There are one or two "test" troopers in back whose conversions and paint jobs aren't as good as the "final" ones. Note: Most of these troopers use heads from the Warhammer Fantasy Empire Militia kit. 2. A close-up of the trooper who's reloading his gun. This is my favorite pose so far. 3. A close-up of the sergeant, with the regiment's home planet's symbol on his shoulderpads to mark his rank. I originally intended to put these on all of them, but I wasn't able to make a mold do the job right, and cutting the shape is a lot of work. 4. This is a stick-tac mockup of my flamer conversion. Backpacks don't work well with these capes, so I thought I'd put the tanks underneath the weapon instead (the trailing flexible tube will be removed). Does this look too heavy for a guardsman to carry?

Lose one of the cannisters. Definitely too bulky.
Once you do that, mount the tank horizontally along the gun, instead of vertically. It's streamline it quite a bit.

Really nice work, I love the way you´ve modyfied the lasguns with a frontal grip and drum magasines.
It´s things like that that makes the guardsmen really standout as your own creation.
Are you planning to do winter bases for them?

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time... |

Not Bison, Vega. Oh, that's right, the releases outside Japan screwed up the names of Vega, Bison and Balrog, just because they were afraid that Mike Tyson would sue them for Bison (that's Balrog for those outside Japan, the version I played first). But enough about my whining about SF, those are some really dynamic models. Cudos to you.

Simply amazing!
they have to be the best cloaks ive ever seen, well modelled and add a great deal of depth to the models, and the lasguns are just showing off , great idea, that has worked out very well.

Wow, great work. Are the hats scratchbuilt or from an independent bitz line?
Ditto the praise for the details on the lasguns conversions too!

Thanks for the comments, and sorry about not responding sooner - I've just started a new job, so I've been pretty busy.
I hadn't thought of the comparison to Bison from Street Fighter before, but they do look like they're wearing the same uniform. I'm going to have to make a Sanctioned Psyker with metal bracers and glowing fists now. To answer the questions about parts - the only kit pieces used on most of these guys come from the Cadian Shock Troops and Empire Militia (the officer has some Kroot Carnivore parts too). The shoulderpads and hats are made from plasticard and milliput (which I'm starting to phase out in favor of Green Stuff for everything except the cloaks).
I did finally get some time to start basing them, as seen below. The bases are supposed to suggest a snowy urban warzone (asphalt, concrete curbs, assorted trash and technological debris all covered in snow).
