Since I have received a few requests on how I made my power klaws for my Black Reach Nobs I thought I'd make a tutorial on how I did them. If this isnt the right place for this please let me know. Some of the pics are a bit fuzzy due to the pieces being a bit small for my cameras macro setting, if there's a photo or step that you cant make out please let me know.
Materials:
7/16" - 8mm styrene tube
.060 x .156" - 1.5 x 4mm styrene strip
3/64" - 1.2mm styrene rod
Piece of outer sprue from any
GW plastic Kit (its roughly 1/8" wide)
All the plasticard was from my
flgs.
Tools:
Sharp hobby knife
Plastic glue
Cutting board
Optional - Hobby saw
1. Cut a piece of 7/16" tube to the length you want the body of the Klaw to be (5/8" for me).
2. Shave one angled side of the sprue till its square.
3. Mark the piece of 7/16" tube for the elbow recess and the Klaw bar recess (I went 1/8" in on either side).
4. Cut the recesses out, making sure that the one for the Klaws is no deeper than the piece of sprue.
4a. Trim sprue to 3/8" and glue in recess
5. Mark 1.5mmx 4mm strip with desired Klaw length. I used 5/8" for the 2 long klaws and 1/2" for the short one. Mark in 1/8" on either end.
6. Cut bevel off end of klaw and carve blade BEFORE cutting of of strip. You can carve it after but its a pain and you are more likely to cut yourself. make all 3 klaws the same way.
7. Mark end of Klaw body with Klaw placement. Mark small groove for bottom Klaw.
8. Forgot to take a pic here, cut out groove for bottom klaw, make it 1.5mm wide so its a snug fit for the klaw. Glue bottom klaw in desired psoition.
9. Trim top 2 klaws to match bevel on sprue and glue in place.
10. Cut small slices off of 3/64" rod for rivets.
11. Glue rivets where desired, I like one on either side of the pice of sprue to make it look like the klaws pivot on it.
12. Add details as desired, battle damage can be done with a knife or saw, you can add glyphs, wires or whatever you wish.
Here is one of my Black Reach Nobs with his klaw.
Feel free to ask any questions or comments!
EDIT: Tube I used is actually 7/16, sorry about that folks, have corrected guide.
Hope you will find this useful!
