So I'm planning a freakishly hard mission for a future tournament, and it requires me to have a lot of bunkers, one per player. I do good fig conversions, but I'm mostly gak when it comes to scratch builds and terrain, so I asked a friend who's done some really cool larger bunkers and tank traps and such about it. He said no problem, so long as I painted em. I was expecting mostly just squat square boxes, but his first prototype is much better than what I was hoping for I think. Figured I'd show off his work here.

Good so far, now add trenches and turrets, then it will be awesome.

Gonna build these out of foam when he gets to the main production line versions, as otherwise the wood he's used here would require way too much paint as it's very porous and will just soak it all up.
Don't think we'll do much more to make em more complicated like turrets and trenches, because I'm asking him to make me 16 of these things. I don't think I even have enough guns to make that many turrets.

Really? Looking at the pics it seems like a stretch to get 5 models in, with the thickness of the material. Will the foam be thinner stuff? Or am I just way off on the scale? I like the design a lot, it's very bunkerish...

Hard to say. I've not seen it in person myself.
"the mock up is taller than the final will be and it will be big enough for 15 guys"
Guessing on the size of the phone in the background, I think the scale on this thing is deceptive and it's bigger than you'd think it was, but otherwise I'm just taking the guy's word for it. If it only really ends up big enough for 10 people that's still good. The point of this thing is to be taken by the enemy, though require some effort to do so, so I don't want em too intractable.

The foam one looks better, more roomy and also a harder target. Trying to shoot into it from the air would be next to impossible.

Awesome bunker Aduro! it looks very reminiscent of the Barraks for IG in the PC game Dawn of war. Once i got my army in a closer to completed status I was planning on making alot of terrain based on the designs from that game.
Looking great so far!

Just a reminder I'm not the one who's done the work so far. Someone else is building em, I'll be painting em.
Oh, and here's where I posted the mission these are to be used in.

I still say flekstone spary would work fine on the wood moc up. I have also discovered a cool little product called H20 laytex from Krylon. You can spray it right on foam! Used it the other day and its works pretty good. Keep us posted.
