I waited for an hour last sunday for early voting. Obama/Biden '08! Nearly 2 million Democratic ballots have been cast in Flordia already, compared to 1.6 million Republican. Hopefully, Florida will go from Red to Blue.

Especially when these days its 'What can this guy do for ME' instead of 'What can WE do to get things back on track'.
Out of 20 workers here at my job roughly half will vote. Now if someone gave out free beer at the voting stations then they probably all would go.....

Ever consider if there were better candidates that more people would vote? Too many elections have come down to voting against someone rather than for someone. At least McCain/Obama are both a step up from Bush/Gore and Bush/Kerry.
And the US isn't really a democracy. It's a republic. If only we had Jedi..........

QFT!
Too many people these days want that bigger piece of the pie. What they don't see is if everyone works together to make the pie bigger, their piece will naturally increase in size as well, without profiting at the expense of their neighbours.

That is a tough question. I can't entirely blame it on the politicians becuase there is a direct cause/effect relationship between who is in office and elections. People say the candidates are bad, but the people ain't all that great themselves. I once heard that "decisions are made by those who show up", and many Americans don't want to be bothered. Then they complain about the decisions being made they choose not to show up for. In A Strange Defeat Bloch talks about the problems of voter apathy as a pathway to polarization and it's effect on the country overall and I think applies.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.
I waited about an hour to vote, went smoothly. I've heard estimates for turnout go as high as 90% of registered voters in some places. In Georgia, we've had huge African-American turnout thus far for the early voting so it's possible that Obama might win the state by a narrow margin.
Penetrating so many secrets, we cease to believe in the unknowable. But there it sits nevertheless, calmly licking its chops.
I was expecting quite a high African American turnout myself.
After all, (and I have resigned to sounding racist, even though there is no intent here!) the Black community has been waiting for their chance to elect a Black to the Presidency, so it would be pointless *not* to vote for him!
And as an aside, in Britsh Politics, it is often mentioned that the Black community has quite a low turnout rate. Is this the same in the US?

The interesting (scary) thing in the state I live is that there has ended up being more registered voters than total population (children included I guess) due to out of date voter rolls. How would you like to sort THAT mess out.
Erm...erm....erm....allow the votes, but don't count any of them, and get Obama and McCain to have a Waaagh contest with their supporters? Loudest Waaaagh wins? (now THATS democracy!)

GOP Election Board members have been tossed out of polling stations in at least half a dozen polling stations in Philadelphia because of their party status.
A Pennsylvania judge previously ruled that court-appointed poll watchers could be NOT removed from their boards by an on-site election judge, but that is exactly what is happening, according to sources on the ground.
Or maybe you'd like some Black Panthers to bash your head in?
TOLEDO, OHIO -- Toledo police are gearing up for possible "Civil unrest" during and after tomorrow's elections.
In an internal memo obtained exclusively by NBC 24 News, officers are ordered to "Have their riot equipment with them Tuesday and Wednesday". Police chief Mike Navarre confirms, officers will have gear similar to the equipment they used during the 2005 race riots. "They have been asked to have their helmets and their gas masks available tomorrow and Wednesday.", Navarre says, "That's the equipment they would not normally carry with them on a normal day".
Navarre also says, officers will not be stationed at individual polling stations. But the memo says otherwise. It reads, "On Tuesday, units shall be directed to patrol the polling locations".
Yep... most certainly the party of unity. Damn those devisive Republicans!

Agreed, but time and time again around where I live its amazing how many DEAD people dig themselves up out of the ground just to go vote. People moving in and out of state are easier to deal with, but dishonest people that get away with using peoples names that have died and still on the rolls need to be 're-educated'.

That would be because we live in the most corrupt state in the union. So we're #1 at something besides being the fattest and having the most pregnant teens!
