This started as a few posts over on the modelling forum, but since I am enjoying playing around with the orks so much I thought I would start a project log so I can simply update this as and when.

What do I have to mess around with? 80 AOBR slugga boyz, 20 Shoota boyz, 15 AOBR Nobz, 7 Lootas, Killa Kan, 2 Trukks, 3 Warbikes, 6 Deffkoptas, 2 AOBR warbosses, Thraka, Painboy and Big Mek w/ KFF. Many of these are already assembled with nothing special done, but some of them are getting a little bit extra.

What have I done so far? Let's take a look:-

First, the team shot. From left to right: the dakkabike without rider, posed mid-jump on a large resin base, with a ramp made of cork and cities of death flooring; then the warboss himself, with newly acquired attack squig crouching on his powerklaw (pinned) - the base is magnetised as are the soles of the warboss' feet, and they are strong enough to hold him tightly even with the metal squig unbalancing him; then there is the old warboss, now nicknamed Davroz, who lost his legs in a tragically misguided effort to lift himself up by his own bootstraps (he used his klaw...) and finally there is the ork nob with a custom powerklaw - a buzzsaw with two pneumatic pincers on either side to hold da beakies in place while he slices 'em.

Second, the dakkabike, this time with the warboss in the saddle. More magnets on the footrests hold him securely in place. I wanted a warboss on a bike, but the only warboss I had was the huge guy from AoBR. None of the normal bikes were remotely large enough - they looked like scooters next to the big lad from Black Reach. So, I made this.

It is built with warbike and trukk parts. The gretchin from the nob warbike has been remodelled to be steering the bike, since the warboss wants to leave his hands free for shootin' at da beakies. The front forks are pinned for strength.

There's a stunt shot just to give you the scale of him, although I think that nob might wind up with a bit of a sore head! Any complaints about the amazing view the warboss gets from up there will be countered by the fact that he will seldom, if ever, find himself getting the benefit of cover

Then there's a close up of the grot driver.

The bike is nearly finished. I just have to fix the warboss' hair (it is pointing in the wrong direction), and add a grot tied to a stick on the back (food for the squigg if it gets hungry).

Next up is the Nob for my squad of Ard Boyz. A mere powerklaw is not 'ard enough for this nob, 'e needs a rekkin' ball The body armour is the front wheel protector from a warbike, and the helmet is a cut up piece from the Defiler sprue.

Then there is the deffkopta. I have one with a buzzsaw, but rather than give this guy another buzzsaw, I went with the theme of enormous rekkin' balls on chains. A bit of simple chopping and splicing persuaded him to let go of the handlebar and grab onto the chain. Sure, it gets caught in the rotors from time to time, but that is why they pay these guys danger money.

Lastly, here is a concept model of my version of Ork Stormboyz. Sure, rockets strapped to your back is cool and all, but what an Ork really wants is his own skysurf board...

The board is simply two pieces of surfboard-shaped plasticard glued together, with various gubbinz stuck on here and there, mounted on a flying stand. He has greenstuffed footloops and headscarf.

To make this properly orky, I need to roughen it up a bit, straighten out some of the smooth curves in the board, knock some holes in it and big up the dags at the front.

All comments and criticism gratefully received!

Oh my Gawd!

That is awesome! Who wouldn't want a rokkit-zurf board? Or a rokkit-boar, now that is an idea for me
That is some good arrangement of gubbins there, can't wait to see them all paintid, red and FASTA!

I won't bother.

The bike boss looks freakin wicked! Not sure on the orks with surfboards but from the rest of your models I could see it happening. Maybe you should have one falling off just holding onto the board with one hand, that would be orky.

Thanks for the comments. I will put some more pics of the bike up shortly.

As for the skysurf boards (the name is from the 2000AD comic, which is where the inspiration comes from as well) I was planning to have one rider clinging on, so maybe falling off might work as well. Would need a lot of modelling to do the pose justice, though.

That's the one. Chopper, the Midnight Surfer.

Since I made that model, I have seen some old Rogue Trader grots on skyboards on Ebay!

I have fixed Kankrizan's hair (if you want to know where the name comes from, by the way - Please Don't Feed The Warboss), although it needed a bit of greenstuff (or redstuff in this case) to add some new hair where the pistol grip had to be cut away.

Also a shot of the rear. You can see the grot bound to a pole (pinned very securely to the back of the bike) - he is screaming because he is a squig-snack-to-go

Lastly, a couple of pics of the ammo runt (made from the remains of the night goblin who was previously holding the squig snack) and a nob with kustom power klaw, and then some more nobs with ogre kingdoms close combat weapons. There is a slugga mounted on the back of the punchdagger (storm-bolter fashion) but you cannot see it in this shot.

I have the sprues for my skysurfin' stormboyz now, so will get to work finishing them asap.

Superb work. I really like them all, especially the awesome dakkabike.

The only criticism that I have is that your warboss and Davros are identical, due to you using the same model for them both. Could I recommend personalizing one of them?

Otherwise, keep up the great work!

Davroz is there as a joke, and will not be a part of the finished army. If I ever need a cybork warboss who cannot manage stairs, he will the one I reach for

Update time. Been doing some of the Surfboyz, so here's some pics, including the nob, who gets a faster skysurf board.

The last one is not an ork surrendering - this is an ork who has not yet mastered the skillz of the Surfboyz, and will be clinging onto his board for all he is worth

Most of the bits on the nob's board are from the Robogear kits - a superb source of cheap kitbashing material. The other ork's board is powered by two gun drones he 'borrowed' from the Tau.

It is a fair point, though. If I ever do use him, I will make sure to change him in some way. Perhaps a head swap, change his gun and reposition his klaw and/or give him a kustom klaw.

Got some paint on the bike, so here are some pics. I went with a Goff colour scheme. I quite like the Evil Sunz and their red vehicles, but I don't have or want an Evil Sunz army, plus I like the blunt, basic look of the Goff black and I really like the check pattern.

It took a couple of evenings, and is my first go at painting an Ork vehicle. The base will soon have a little Imperial Guardsman, cowering with his head in his hands hur, hur, hur

(PS. the pupil in the grot's eye is not photoshopped - I cheated and used a technical pen to put the pupil in)

NICE! At first I didn't like the look of the metal stuff but in the last picture I see what you did.. must have been the flash/angle. Looks totally salvage/corroded/ weathered. Love it.

Great work. You capture the humor of Orks really well. The terrified grot on pole just kills me.

Where did you get the turbine bit for the Nob's skysurfboard? And great job on the Tau drones strapped underneath the other one, btw.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

The grot on the pole comes from the WFB squig herders blister, and the turbine bit comes from one of the Robogear kits (the Thunder model). You can find them going pretty cheap, but the starter kit is the best - tons of great parts for orky konvershuns.
