Well I owed a friend some stuff so we ended up splitting the box set with dwarves and gobbos, he took the Dwarves.
I love all of the Goblin army models, I am going with a full on Goblin Army.
How many Fanatics is excessive in a goblin army. I was looking in the range of 15 Fantactics in 5 large Goblin Squads. I love the models for Squig hoppers gotta get those. Goblin Doom Diver as well. Spider guys are great. Chariots, Wolf Riders.
Anyway I have not seen to many goblin armies on here, basically no big dudes at all no orcs what so ever.

yeh really big units with spears, fanatics are a must as try and get loads in the list,
squig hoppers can be quite useful possibly adding in a lord on a big squig kitted out for combat to give the unit a bit of a harder punch, or take a goblin mage lord, or even Skarsnik he is quite hard
2 mages and a battle standard bearer with the raggedy red banner round out your character choices
artillery will help you deal range from afar if you dont want giants or trolls, take the doom divers and see if you can fit in some stone throwers as well so have 2 doom divers and a rock lobba on a hill and safely firing for a couple of turns before the fanatics get released
chariots might be useful to zoom round the flanks and try to get some flank charges in to support your goblins, or get within charge range of shooty units

I like the goblin spider riders better than the wolf riders. I love the Squig Hopper models.

I've just started one too.
Firstly don't take a NG general.
Always take a goblin general, shaman or warboss for the extra leadership. Model him as a NG, I am.
You can have a great defensive battle line with lots of bolt throwers and doom divers, then when the enemy hits, fanatics are released.
But empire, wood elves, some HE and DE armies can outshoot you.
So if going offensive, 2 giants and sguig hoppers and herds are great.
1 fanatic per 200 points in the army, up to about 12 is max. Otherwise it just ends up being a fanatic fest.

That's kind of what I was going for though, 5 Core Units of Night Goblins with 3 Fanatics a piece.
Actually 6 units and 3 per would seem to be a better choice.
18 fanatics.
Basic Tactic Charge forward with all six units release fanatics
Have Calvary Flank.
Pretty simple.

Then your opponent drops an eagle, or furies, or harpies etc directly in front of your line, dropping a dozen fanatics directly in front of you.

One hot tip is to run in waves.
3 units of 50, ranked 10 wide in the front, and several smaller units (say 30) behind.
The front units have 3 fanatics each and the units behind heve 1 each.
Enemy moves up and charges front row of units, get hammered by the fanatics, keep charging then the second row release their fanatics directly through the larger units in front (which is why your units are so large, to avoid panic tests).
Also means that you have a second wave of fanatics for release if the enemy uses the release tactic I discussed earlier.

don't forget to take nets, nothing make me think twice about running down NG units than nets that -1 str mod just puts icing on the cake. as for squig hoppers *sigh* go ahead and take them, about every NG player ive seen has them. usually with a NG BB and lucky's dirk/amulet of protectyness (hate that unit, as such normally gets the business end of my organ gun) doom divers are usually a must and if you choose to cheese out, skarsnik isn't too shabby at bieng a NG warlord. (ldr 8, squig ambush rules, gobbla with killing blow atks) as for the fanatics, i'd say its up to how much of a mess you want to make the game? the more fanatics sometimes means the better for you, until later in the game your fanatics are smashing through your valuable units (aka: giants, cavalry, squig hoppers). I personally have won many o' games against the fanatic army of doom because it ate itself up with me sacrificing a single gyrocopter. two waves of NG ain't to shabby either, if you do that try to have the units set up for the nice counter-attack that scaven are so famous for.

Massed units with nets quickly adds up in points but your main combat units should have them and the larger the unit the better the value.
Also remember you roll for each unit and add, so try and get multiples into combat with the same enemy unit to really hammer them.
Also Skarsnik is fantastic.
I've gone up against him once at a GT and from my army of 16 units (each character and warmachine count as a unit) 4 didn't turn up... A banshee, a thrall, a skeleton unit and a dire wolf unit.
Threw my plans right out the window.
