necrons were the first army i collected, back in 03ish when i was back in primary school. they've been through three paint schemes: generic metal, forest and black and grey/blue ceramic. each failed horribly and i haven't gamed with them for over 5 or 6 ears. so i decided to re-paint them. i liked the idea that necrons adapt to their environment by altering the colour of the metal and that the c'tan have no preset colour as they are just entities bound within necromerdis. so i went for desert and here's the result... please leave comments!

Ooo.

I really like the "rising from the ground" look.

The only complaint I have is that there isn't really enough color with the body/gun/ground being all roughly the same color with just some green accents. Maybe I'll change my opinion once the green rods are put into the weapon, but for now, I feel like it could stand to use at least a little bit more color.

More!

Uh oh, sand in the joints! Gonna lock those up real fast!

The glow on the eyes is kinda cool, but I'm disappointed at your lack of cool glowy rods.

thanks. the thing is that there arent many places i can put colour on, i'm hoping the rods will help, but all suggestions welcome for what colours i could use and where i can put them. i'll put the rods in soon and put pics up tomorow.

I think the fact that the sand and the primary color are so similar makes them seem really monotone. I like the sand look a lot, do you have problems with it falling off through normal wear and tear?

Suggestions to add contrast/color:

Maybe darken the sand a little, a little dark brown wash would add shading and color in one fell swoop...
Glow rods would probably help
Cactus or something on the bases might all some focal points
Maybe color their skulls differently, a rusted worn red maybe

Definitely the decaying/rising from the ground look is my favorite.

I like the spear on the Lord a lot. I am not a big fan of the bright sand though. Especially since it is the exact same color as their living metal bits. Camoflauge and all that I know. But it kind of makes it a little hard on the eyes when your first looking at them. Maybe make them and the sand a little darker, Camo is good and all, but I think it would be a little more terrifying if the enemy could see the Necrons rising from the ground to kick their ass.

I do like the battle damage.

Also, I always thought it would be neat to have a model of a Necron actively regenerating a part.

thanks all. the weapon is two necron glow rods stuck together and filed to a point and painted the bottom sand colour.

wraith time! the idea is that as wraiths can move through objects by phasing out he is moving out of a rock and hopefully looks sneaky as if he is hiding and pouncing on unexpected prey.

I pooped my pants when I saw the Lord's spear, I like it a lot. The Wriath is looking good too, I am planning something like that, but I am going to butcher the model to have it coming directly through a big black rock, with the tail in the rear of the rock and the fronty bitz in the front...

Good job on all the modelling, look forward to some more pictures.

Sure you can add some color by painting the joints a rusted metal to give the model some contrast. Also think about detailing the weapon, it has power coils that are just screaming for color.

The Lord's spear is just awesome. Very fitting for the theme of the army. I dislike the eye glow effect on him and the to a lesser degree the wraith. There's too much of it. The Lord just looks like he's got a green forehead, and the Wraith's got raccoon eyes. Go back to the more subdued effect you used on the Warriors.

OK i misjudged it a little, haven't played with them for 3 year first started 5 years ago but i have no sense of time. it's my birthday soon! I'm 40 next week and i was 13 yesterday.

i don't want to put rust on them because that implies that they are painted camouflaged which is wearing off and i don't really want that effect. but i will paint the power coils and tubing now that you made me think of it...

thanks for the nice comments about the wraith and lords weapon. I'm hopefully getting 2 more wraiths soon and my pariahs have matching weapons in the works. 1 out of 4 done so far! still got loads of warriors destroyers, flayed ones, a monolith and a c'tan left and then i need to buy more !

Another thing I thought of, when I was doing some of my Tau I found that a light spray of clear enamel (not the glossy, maybe they call it matte...? Basically the opposite of Glossy) gave them a really realistic dusty look and protected the paint job, without taking away from the colors at all... have you done anything like that to your guys?

It might be just the thing to help the sand from getting knocked off and an extra dusty effect would probably go well with them. Only thing is you would possibly want to consider testing on the glow rods to see if it would mess up the effect you have going on. Just a thought, I'm always trying to find new effects to use and this is one I was quite satisfied with.

1. Second, increase the color differential from the crons vs. the sand.

2. Also you might put in some rock pieces with differeing colors. Look up pictures of the Arizona desert. You will see lots of rock formations with reds and other hues to fill out your rocks.

Great job on those Necrons! Love the effect you did on them. However I'm not so sure about that same effect on the Pariahs, they are not millions of years old as in that they are a relatively new addition to the Necron forces (being harvested Pariahs amongst human populations and all) or have they all just been playing in the sand?

after looking at many Arizona desert pics (thanks frazzled) i think i'll try washing the sand red and adding little bushes and rocks etc. so... any idea on how to make bushes?

the pariahs are sandy because the whole army erupts from the ground to defend the necron complex on the planet they have been on since the necrontyr were cursed with skeletal bodies. the pariahs travel around with the lord via 'veil of darkness' . except my lord prefers to travel underground, transported by scarabs. so that's my story of how my pariahs got sand in their joints.

I was just nitpicking I guess! They look great, love how you turned the rods in to spearpoints. Maybe you should also have some crystals growing of the bases of your models!

What about create a Necron Lord based on a C'tan model, add all that sand stuff to the model and make it look as if he is jumping/flying out of the sand!
