I've had my nids for the better part of the last half of 4th and into 5th, and looking to revise my list. I like the idea of just flooding my opponent with hordes and hordes of models to many for his guns to hopefully mow down. Want to know if this list would be fun or even have a chance to winning. Comments and Criticisms welcome.

Wow A horde I haven't seen one of those since 3rd edition!


I like the list. All Fleshborers? I think you should mix it up a little. If for no other reason than to confuse people that don't see nids often.

I was thinking about that, but for the price cost and effective dmg/rng fleshborers seemed the best cost for effect. I mean I really wanted to put in Devourers but they were to expensive and they'd keep me from fielding the 3 Zoeys and 2 Carni's. I might be able to fit them on 1 squad or so but that would sacrifice 1 Warrior and something else to be able to allow the extra pts for the Devourers. hmm...Or I could 1 squad spinefists and use those points for giving 1 squad Devourers.

I'll have to see how it works, plus I know I haven't seen to many horde/swarm armies in 4th/5th for awhile unless they were Ork and I just love my nids and always love how their fluff makes them seem like a walking tide of claws and teeth. I don't know I think it'd be fun and maybe even winnable. We'll see, heh.

You could put one brood down to spinefists to free up the points to put the other brood up to devourers.

I would try to get some rending claws on the warriors, otherwise the enemy armor save will be the death of this force. Especially if you play Marines.

I also think a VC or BS would be a better weapon for the Tyrant, but that's because I have horrid luck with deathspitters.

I hadn't really looked at the rending claws, but after looking it over, to give them all rending claw would put me over 2k pts by 13 pts. Now I know most people probably wouldn't quibble to much over 13 pts, but you never know. And from looking at it, I'm not sure would I trim the pts to get that. Not to mention where would I trim pts to put a VC on my Hive Tyrant, the BS wouldn't be hard. But my reason for that is because the Tyrants Strength stat isn't really high enough to make them their most effective, the main reason why they're normally seen on your Carnifex's instead since their Strength stat is almost maxed for the weapon. So I was just looking at him and trying to min/max his dmg with pts cost.

But the Spinefist / Devourer trade would definitely be a possibilty and might be fun just to change it up.

Outflanking

One thing I noticed about your Tyrant is that you have both warp blast and a ranged weapon symbiote, as well as enhanced senses. I see several problems with this
1) warp blast does not mix with enhanced senses. This prevents you from useing the focused bolt.
2) Without being able to use the focused bolt, warp blast is little more than a weaker, less accurate deathspitter with better AP. Thus both end up serveing much the same purpose.
3) You have to choose between fireing the deathspitter and useing warp blast. as you currently cannot use the focused bolt, both fullfil the same role, and you are likely to just keep useing the same one against your opponent (whichever one works best), meaning you wasted the points you spent on the other.

I personally would drop ehnhanced senses, and the Twin-linked deathspitter, freeing up 30 points for more points elsewhere.

I would drop the warp blast, as mentioned for the enhanced senses (as it burns them out) and because you can only use a psychic power or shooting weapon. Your best on a monstrous creature perhaps twin linked devourers and twin linked deathspitters maybe.

Monstrous creatures can shoot two ranged weapons... pg. 51 of the rulebook. Though you may want to consider Shadow in the Warp so that Chaos sorcerers, farseers and librarians don't use their tricks.

I believe the special text for Warp Blast says it is the only shooting you can do that round, but I'm away from the codex right now.

Have made some excellent points. Especially regarding the Tyrant. I forgot about the Warp Blast beating the crap out of Enhanced Senses. I'll be dropping that. Reason being I want as much Anti-High Armor vehicle shots as I can get over a broader range of models, not just on a particular group. Not to spread myself out thin, but to be able to do multiple things with the army and not just rely solely on one part.

What I think I'll do is I'll replace the Enhanced Senses with Bio-Plasma. Dropping the total pts value to 1997.

As for why I don't put Without Number on one of the squads is because most people will ignore that squad after they dwindle it down to almost nothing keeping it from coming back onto the board, from my edge no less. Not to mention to put that on one of my squads is another 96 pts. of which I don't have to spare.

Also, for the firing of Warp Blast it counts as your shooting phase for all weapons, its that or your normal shooting for the creature type you're using. I'll made the edits to the list on the original post for the Tyrant.

I've read it over and over and never quite understood what it meant. So I've never taken it, because it didn't really seem that advantageous since it sounds to me like it just make it harder for them to pass their test, but nothing happens if they get a peril of the warp which seems like give and take and more of a help than a hindrance. Or am I reading it completely wrong.

I've made the changes to the list to reflect some of the input I've received, thanks again for your tips. Now this isn't the most competitive army list I know, but it should be fun and at least half way decent in effectiveness or so I hope.
