The way I read it, the monolith is only damaged by natural strength +1d6 weapons, correct?

So a dreadnought would only be attacking at 6 + 1D6, not the normal 10+1d6 if it has a CCW?

Same with thunderhammers huitting at Strength 4 +1d6 instead of 8+1D6?

If this is true is the only weapon in the space marine codex that can get a penetrating hit on a monolith the lascannon?

No.

You never roll 'extra' D6.

a Dreadnought CCW is still 10 +d6
a Thunderhammer is still 8 +d6
A Chainfist however, is 8 + 1d6, not 2d6.

The monolith does not stop a model from receiving double strength from a weapon or from being monstrous. It just stops adl. dice from being used. Like melta or the like. This I believe appears in the FAQ.

No problem. I have been reminded by others to check them out from time to time. We all forget. Sometimes posting is just faster.

Some more info.

AP1 weapons still get a +1 on the vehicle damage table.

Vin Assassin still get 3d6 but no rending. This 3d6 is the power of the shot. It's not 1d6 plus 2d6 for the shot.

1850 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1000 and counting

And honestly, even with FAQs living metal and We'll Be Back are still fething horrible rules to comprehend.

Agreed. They're one of the main reasons I decided not to do Necrons when they first got a codex.

A new day, a new time zone.

I've only found it difficult to comprehend only when various people on the internet got involved, tossing around incomplete or just plain incorrect paraphrases of the rules. In person, it's always been pretty easy to resolve with just a couple minutes pointing out the relevant rules and reading them over.

It's always amused me with how pfist-monolith threads would spiral out of control, when the first time it came up in person, we worked out the correct answer on our own in probably less than five minutes.

*edit* Of course, there is one sticky spot, what to do with multiple 'weapon destroyed' results and the gauss flayer, but that really lies more in the realm of the hypothetical than an actual in play problem.

And, you know, WBB and nearby units, WBB and morale tests, teleporting downed Necrons, moving models in relation to downed necrons....

Stupid rule that opens itself up to abuse.

I've always played it as being 6 weapons ...

it can be destroyed 6 times on the 7th there's nothing left to destroy, so the monolith is Immobilised

... that said i've play some nectron players that clame since the power Matrix can't be destroyed by a weapon destroyed result you need to roll a wrecked or explodes result to kill it ... this can make the monloth unkillable with any thing not Str9 or above ... or a combination of Str8 AP1 and tank hunter...

however you wish to play it make sure you talk it over before the game starts

A new day, a new time zone.

I would assume all the Necron players you've faced have claimed that the Power Matrix isn't affected by Weapon Destroyed, since that what the rules clearly say. As for Immobilized after 6 WD results, you'd have just as strong an argument for claiming it should be four, since that's the number of flayers it has.

It's never really been something that was needed clarifying before the game, because it either means you're oppenent is having a terrible run of luck, and thus is a rather rare occurence, or else their tactically inept, focusing a lot of attacks that would be much better suited insta-killing Necrons.

I really have no idea what you're talking about, nor does anything you mentioned seem to be any sort of issue. WBB is not a rule solely belonging to the Monolith. All it lets you do is teleport a squad, and any models in that squad failed their first WBB test that turn get to make a second one. So if the models were around at the start of the turn to make their regular WBB test, they're still around to take the second one.

Actually, that's RAW as is noted in the INAT FAQ, since the monolith will never be subject to the rule for "Damaged - Weapons Destroyed" and "Damaged - Immobilised(sic)": "A vehicle that suffers either Damaged result when it has no weapons left and is already immobilised(sic) treats the result as "Destroyed - Wrecked" instead."

Since the power matrix provides a weapon that can never be destroyed, the monolith will never have "no weapons left", ergo it can never be destroyed by plain S8 weapons, no matter how many glances it receives.

would be nice to play it as 4 but it removes one shot from a D6 so 6 (and then not counting as having any weapons) sounds better IMHO, its just a house rule since no one wants to play against a force that can't die ... RAW fine for most things but there are times when RAI is the way to play ... which is why i say talk it over, end of the day you want to play a fun game

Yes, that would be why I stated "plain S8 weapons"...

Odd, just out of curiosity, what makes you believe that the RAI is in this case any different from the RAW? In the background the monolith is consistently portrayed as an unstoppable engine of destruction, and the rules clearly are intended to make it the most difficult vehicle to destroy in 40k. What makes you think the designers didn't want it to be impossible to glance to death?

easy in 4th you could kill a monolith on a glancing hit

And they fixed it in 5e allowing the Monolith to scoff at glancing hits ...at the cost of Warriors dropping like flies in CC.
