Well with my other Blog i started ages ago in my eyes being a failure as i just cannot decide on a color scheme i have decided to abandon the 40k Chaos and return to Warhammer for a while

Over Xmas i have gathered a load of Chaos bits and pieces to end up with this so far

36 Warriors
64 Maraurders
5 Knights
10 Warhounds
1 Chariot (soon to be a Warshrine)
1 of the new Lords on Daemonic Mounts
2 Sorcerers (the new Nurgle one and the old Tzeentch Birdman)

and i'm pretty excited as it just seems to have got me my painting bug back, which for the past year or so hasn't really been there i have just had no motivation or inspiration to finish armies or start painting the ones i have so prehaps a new project is just what i needed

to start with i have a WIP chaos hound that i have begun to paint up tonight and i just wondered what people think of it as a starting point before i start getting to grips with all the infantry (i have 20 Warriors built and after the warhounds are done i think that will be the next unit up), but whilst i am finalising a list and deciding which God i'm going to follow if any i can paint the warhounds without fear of needing to repaint them because of marks etc

well here goes thanks for the C&C in advance:

well time for another quick update, i was flicking through the army book whilst finally getting to watch more than the first episode of the Sarah Conner Chronicles (good show) and have drew up a working list from the models i have avaliable, being as its my 21st birthday next week i will have some cash to play around with and am debating what to buy to add to the army, but for now heres the list

Chaos Lord: Daemonic Mount, Axe of Khorne, Enchanted Shield, Helm of Many Eyes: 345pts

Chaos Sorcerer: Lvl 2, 2x Dispel Scrolls: 170pts

Chaos Sorcerer: Lvl 2, MoT, Skull of Katam: 190pts

20 Maraurders: Shields, Light Armour, Full Command, Mark of Khorne: 170pts

20 Maraurders: Shields, Light Armour, Full Command, Mark of Khorne: 170pts

24 Maraurders: Great Weapons, Full Command, Mark of Nurgle: 170pts

Warshrine of Tzeentch: 150pts

5 Chaos Knights: Banner of Rage, Full Command: 285pts

20 Warriors: Shields, Full Command: 350pts

as you can see the list is not overly powerful and is just bashed together from the models i have, i will play a couple of games with it and start swapping and changing units etc, that and its odd building an army with ranked up units in for a change, apart from 3 or 4 games with High Elves, i have exclusively played Wood Elves since i started fantasy in 4th edition, its proving harder than i thought to make up army lists as i'm used to small units and skirmishers, still the models are a pleasure to paint, purely the reason for starting this army its something completely different from all that green and dryad bark
on the painting front i have the first warhound finished and the 2nd basecoated, i'm happy with it and will try and get the same effect on the first unit of 5, but for now they will be put to rest as over the weekend i hope to get my first mage done, well C&C appreciated as usual:

Nice job, I especially like the highlighting of the hair. The pictures are a little too fuzzy to see all the detail of the model, perhaps you can fix this. Most digital cameras have macro setting that are designed to take ultra-detailed pictures at a very close range, but I don't know what you are using.

I am using the macro setting on the camera, but with all the xmas decorations being taken down and santas all over the house (the only space clear is in the kitchen alas where these pictures got took) i don't have space to make a rudimentary light box or put some white paper, hopefully when i am back at uni i can remedy this and take some better pics.

Thanks for all the comments so far.

Right well I have decided to make this a blog of current WIP armies instead.

Therefore I am having to armies to work on at the same time, Warriors of Chaos and Chaos Marines (my tournament army for this year).

So far in regards to the tournament army I have:

7 Plague Marines & 3 Obliterators.

thats it at the moment the army is under the working name "Disciples of Pain" might change it i'm not sure. anyway below is a picture of an obliterator that i've begun (note the blue armor is going i am replacing it with a purple and bone color scheme.

and also as an update for my chaos army i've bought a Giant and a Khorne Champion on foot, the champion will probably be my next model for this army once this sorcerers done.

Anyway C&C always appreciated and thanks for any comments in advance.

I'm liking the extreme contrast on the Oblits between the flesh and the black/blue. I'd like to see some tonal variations on the flesh part, perhaps use an ink on the lighter flesh where they are attaching to the metal parts.

As you continue to work on the metal areas, I'd suggest drybrushing a couple progressively lighter tints of gunmetal grey to bring out details in the piping and weapons. If you can do the close work and paint the tiny lenses, go for a contrasty orange to stand out from the blue-black.

Have a think about your bases - I find the base can really help get across the army concept with minimal effort. With a name like 'Disciples of Pain' you can go crazy with hooks, spikes, chain, etc from vehicle bits. If you are going with black/blue as the major armor coloring, consider a sandy or mars-like base style, very easy to do with a bit of sand glued down and painted red with a couple of lighter drybrush passes in ochre or dun.

The Nurgle priest is coming along well. I keep wanting to see a dribble of ichor spilling from his belly wounds... maybe use some human hair and layer glue or thick gloss on it?

Keep it up!

Cheers,

thanks for the comments:

@Slaaneshi - thanks for that I will take your advice into account, the actual colour scheme is eventually going to be purple and bone, so i will probably end up with a grey city scape style base to provide a contrast.

@!?: the Nurgle sorcerer is very WIP, i've only put the base coat on the skin its no where near finished

Right finally got around to doing some painting and havent updated in ages but that Obliterator is finally finished, i was flicking through Codex Red Corsairs and decided upon the Warriors of Mayhem color scheme, so i painted up the oblit and had a go at transferring this purple recipe onto a basic Chaos Marine to see how it would look, i'm pretty happy with it, but i wondered what you guys thought?:

Thought for my next project however, i am debating between a) Unit of Plague Marines and Rhino, or b) Converting and painting Vilitch and one of his friends (for my Tzeentch Death Star army).

I like the purple armor, just find a bright contrast color for the details and you're set! I'm using scorpion green for detail highlights to go with my purple armor and overall I'm really satisfied with the results.

What is your recipe for the armour? I really like it.

Great looking models! I too really like the purple power armor, you've done a great job making it a very deep and clean looking purple.

The armor is done as such:

Basecoat: Royal Purple (vallejo)

50/50 Liche Purple and Royal Purple

then add in Warlock so you have a 33/33/33 mix - these 3 stages should cover the armor entirely.

Highlight: take this 33/33/33 mix and add in a small amount of Skull White (should look like Lilac now) and apply it with gusto to the areas you want to highlight

Final Highlight: Add in more white and just do the edges.

Wash with a 50/50 mix of Purple Ink and Badab Black wash.

Thanks for the comments guys, in regards to the contrast color on normal CSM i'm going to use an off white Shadow Greyish color as shown in the codex:

Update time, since i've been testing out my proposed tourny list for this year I have set about assembling to models to make it complete. So far in regards to this army 2 Boxes of PM, 3 Oblits and a Rhino and being as Deathguard Melta Gunners are hard to come by i've decided to assemble the remaining 6 out of basic CSM GS'ed up and kitbashed. Here is a trail run on the champion, i'm pleased with it to a degree just wondered what you guys thought and give me some C&C for the next few:

Well another quick update, GS'ed up the only basic trooper that I need to complete the collection of Plague Marines for this tournament army, i'm very very unsure about it because I think I went a tad bit too mental with the GS, still let me know what you think C&C always very much appreciated, hoping to get a test mini for the PM painted over the weekend so you can see how the scheme works.

And with pleasure allow me to introduce to you Brother I've Got A Honey Monster Arm...HUG ME!! - the only part of this model i am pleased with is the Nurgle symbol on the shoulder pad again need C&C on these
