This is the first model that I have *loved* painting since I got back into the hobby, it truly was a pleasure and time flew by.

It was also the first model I have painted using the new paints, and Mechrite Red and Tallarn Flesh were good I was less impressed with dheneb stone (which I used on the cloak)

Whether its the colour itself or my painting skills I do not know, but if there is one part of the model I dont like its the cloak. A wash might add some more depth but im not sure- if any dakka members have any advice it would be appreciated (for any part of the model not just cloak)

I have a box of grey knights and will paint them to and add them to the log, if I enjoy them as much as I enjoy the Inquisitor then I will definitely be collecting an army.

wow, pretty nice Inq you have there. always been fond of the armor on that model.

the cloak actually looks prety cool, but needs a hem or something to make it feel less 'bla'.

as for your GK's, painting silver got old for me after 1 squad, better luck for you though. although I supose you could go non-traditional with their colors, maybe even keep the formula you used for the =][=.

Really liking this guy, he looks very "Come get some" with the red armour.

I second Rahveel idea of a hem or some such, but even a wash would work wonders on the cloak. I swear, washes are like awesome in a can.

What about painting the GK's grey instead of silver? Paint them dark grey with red/white markings like the Inquisitor!

Thanks for the comments, gonna try a hem or wash , nervous incase I wreck it but well no pain no gain

Im gonna stick to the original grey knight scheme for now, going by gamesworkshops guide but I will try "theme" the force

Im so tempted to go buy AOBR for the dreadnought today, have fifty pounds burning a hole in my pocket...

Here's your choice: spend the money or send it to me. I can spend it for you.

I like the cloak.I could never get white to look like that.

You could paint the Grey Knights white.

In old skool fluff, is that what they used to be???

Hehe I think I will ask the girlfriend to order me 100 quids worth or so online once I paint these guys and im satisfied

And the cloak isnt actually white its dheneb mixed with bleached bone, the highest highlight is just bleached with maybe a small bit of white.

Either way thank you for the compliments

this is him varnished and with his eye piece done and an ogryn flesh wash. Unfortunately his hand came off last night and took a chunk of paint with it- it was mismoulded but I added in green stuff and it should be ok

Also my grey knights have mismoulds which I am pretty annoyed about, but not enough to warrant complaining. Also have sprayed and done mould lines etc already

I love them both!

For critique on the inquisitor:

The armor looks fantastic. For the eye's, get a really small brush like a 15/0 or 20/0 and dab some black ink into the eye sockets to make 'em pop.

For the skin, I find using brown inks like flesh wash tend to yield better results for skin than black. The black tends to "muddy" the tone up.

if you want to really grab attention and have a steady hand, invest in a 30/0 brush. Use this to create a mosaic on the back of the cloak. Like the inquisitorial =][=

The bolt gun might also benefit from random black plates.

On the Grey knight:

The over all piece is superb. The scripts on the purity seals is an excellent touch. A trick I use is to use brown ink instead of black ink to detail the writings. It makes them look older and more battle weathered.

Again, these are some fantastic pieces and I hope to see more soon.

Looks good.. I actually liked painting the grey knight and didn't see any casting defect.

I'm wondering why you decided to put the backpack on. My set did not come with them and from the pictures on the box they don't have them stock. I'm guessing personal preference . And it works

edit: I don't know if the new GK have backpacks, I just realized I have the old set just by looking at the helmet details.

Can't wait to see more! Keep up the awesome work!

I will not be doing any freehand- I have shakey hands unfortunately. Will do the eyes and black plates on the bolter tho and brown ink on the scrolls. Just so you know it is brown ink on the skin!

Perhaps I was to heavy handed with it.

My set come with backpacks and all the gamesworkshop ones have them so I guess you just missed out.

I got another box of troopers, a dreadnought, vindicare assassin and coteaz and his retinue.

Also half way through painting the rest of the first squad but nothing pic worthy.

Finally Im still unhappy with the way they are moulded- second squad has same defaults as the first but such is life.

I finished the first squad of knights and did some touchups to the inquisitor so here they are, as well as my next WIP

edit: god when you see them that big you can really see how crap they are compared to some stuff but sure its tabletop standard

Dude at least they're done. I cant tell you how many grey or black tides I've played against. I'd probably shake your hand if I played you. A model with any sort of color of it blows any unfinished model away in my book.

Well-lit close up macroed pictures are very revealing. Anyone who knows anything about them understands that it is zoomed in beyond what would ever be seen on a game table. Taking those pics is great to see areas you could improve on or mistakes you might want to go back and clean up.

As to your finished squad. I always assume that models that are used for gaming should be viewed at an arms length. The squad is photographed at about that distance, and in lighting conditions similar to an indoor gaming table. And they look fantastic from that distance. I would call that above TT standard, and I'd be more than happy to play against a Gk army that looked like that.

Just knock out some more guys! I particularly like the red armored inquisitor.
