Alrighty, I've been slowly working on my armies for a couple of years now, and I figured that I might as well start to finish them up. So, I've made several bits orders and am now going to finish them up as soon as the bits start coming in. I've got two armies that need to be finished, and those are my Chaos Space Marines and my Armored Company. The basis story behind the CSM army is that it was a successor chapter of the Blood Angels, called the Death Angels. They were known for their ferocity in hand to hand, even surpassing that of their parent chapter. They were prone to mutation, with some of them even having wings. They were betrayed by the Inquisition, who viewed them with suspicion due to their numerous mutations, and were led into an ambush involving some Renegade Chapters. The last surviving ship fled into a warp anomaly, only to return years later as a revenant ship, seeking revenge against those that had betrayed them.

The Armored Company started off as a loyalist army, but after getting some basic painting done on it, I felt it just didn't suit me, so I decided it was going to be a Renegade AC who worshipped the Death god named Mortis. Still working on all the details of their fluff at the moment. So, with all that said, here are the pics I have taken so far.

I'm building these armies up for Apocalypse, as that is mainly what I play these days. For the Death Angels CSM, this is what my goal is:

1 Terminator Lord (Completed)

2 Units of 10 Terminators (Completed)

2-3 Sorcerors

1 Unit of 10 Chosen (Completed)

4 Units of 13 CSM (13 is the favored number of Mortis) (Completed)

1 Unit of 13 Raptors (Completed)

1 Unit of 10 Bikers (Completed)

3 Units of 3 Obliterators (Completed)

2 Units of 20 Demons (can be used as either lesser demons from Codex:CSM or "flavored" demons from Codex:Chaos Demons, since I will be using them in Apocalypse) (Completed)

1 Land Raider (Completed)

2 Rhinos (Completed)

1 Defilers

For the Mortis Legion Armored Company, my goal is to have the following:

6 Leman Russ Battle Tanks (Completed)

3 Basilisks (Completed)

9 Sentinels (Completed)

2 Chimeras (Completed)

3 Hell Hounds

1 Chaos Warhound Titan

1 Baneblade (Completed)

1 Stormlord (Completed)

1 Renegade Psyker (Forgeworld model, will count as my "necromancer") (Completed)

2 Units of 10 Stormtroopers (Using the Chaos Renegade parts from FW) (Completed)

1-2 Units of Ogryn Berserkers. (FW) (Completed)

2 Technomancers (using the Titan Tech Priest from FW)

Servitors to accompany the Technomancers (will use the Iron Brother Hood models by Micro Art Studio)

First up, some pics of my Mortis Legion Armored Company.

Still some more.

All the areas enclosed by the spikes are going to be filled with skulls, skull piles, and bodies.

All those pics were taken a few months ago, and I stopped working on the army after that. Last week, I started working on it again, and here are just a couple of new pics of one of the Basilisks. I have done a lot more work on the other tanks as well, and will get some pics up when I can. The paint scheme is going to be black with some flames coming up from the bottoms of the tanks, sort of like The Legion of the Damned.

Next up, my Death Angels. These are all WIP models, so if you see things missing (like shoulder pads or arms) it is because I am waiting on bits to arrive or haven't decided exactly what is going on the model.

My Terminators. The majority of them are going to be equipped with double lightning claws, the weapons GW decided not to include in the Terminators box, which is why they have no arms at the moment. Going to have to order those bits, and they ain’t cheap!

I'm adding some details on them using small tank chain and skulls from the new Skeletons box in an attempt to mimic some of the Forgeworld Chaos shoulder pads.

Some new Chaos Marines.

These are going to be my Obliterators, which are nicknamed "Gun Wraiths." The lower body is from some long oop liche type models. I'm going to have to make molds of them (there are two versions) since they are very hard, if not impossible, to find these days. The power-scythes will count as power-fists, and I've decided that all power-fists on other models in my army will be represented by power-scythes in order to keep everything consistent and avoid confusion.

Okay, here is a prototype for my Raptors (Reapers). Still very much a WIP. The head is from an old Reaper Miniatures figure that I cut off and filed down to size. I will be making a mold of this head and then casting it for the rest of my Raptors.

You know, i normally don't care for the spiky bitz- but somehow your uniform use of them here is kind of appealing- especially on top of the sentinels and, surprisingly, the Baneblade. And the skulls along the Baneblade tracks are cool too.

I guess the lesson is if you're going to do spikes, do 'em all the way.

I am ashamed that you turned away from the cadians and went traitor! However if you were ever going to that is how you should do it. Great conversions and I love the baneblade!! I run a cadian army and hate to see you leave us but now who better to fight than a traitor AC. Can't wait to see your painting on them.

I really like the baneblade. It's suitably gothic and chaotic, without adding tentacles and bits of cocktail stick. great work!

Thanks for all the kind words. No new pics today, but I will probably get some more up tomorrow. I'm still waiting on a few bits orders to come in, so work has been kind of slow this week on them and I've been trying to get as much done to them as I can do.

CommissarKhaine wrote:I really like the baneblade. It's suitably gothic and chaotic, without adding tentacles and bits of cocktail stick. great work!

Yeah, the Gothic look is what I was going for. They aren't exactly Chaos like other Renegades, but they aren't exactly "good" either. Basically, fluff wise, they had adopted an unorthodox fighting style prior to worshipping the death god Mortis in that they outfitted their tanks with spikes and the skulls and such of their enemies in order to strike psychological as well as physical damage. Then, through the influence of a rogue Inquisitor, they came to believe that of all the "powers" in the universe, that ultimately Death was supreme, as even the Emperor of Mankind is on the brink of death and will eventually succumb to Death, much like everything else. So to show their dedication to Mortis, they have added even more skulls, spikes, and bodies to their vehicles, turning them into "shrines" to their god.

Alrighty, here's some pics of what I have done so far.

These seem to be lacking something, as they are not quite as "terrifying" as the tanks. I think what they may need is some chain wrapped around them (or barbed wire) with some skulls and such hanging from them. I'm also thinking about putting some spikes in some of the leg joints.

Some of my Russes that are nearly completed. Just need a few more bits on them, then they will be ready for painting.

That baneblade conversion is definitely one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Never thought of using the corpse cart bodies for something like that.

Any thoughts on what your colour scheme will be?

Thanks! The paint scheme that I am thinking of right now is black for the hulls and chainmail/boltgun metal for all the spiky bits and barrels and such. Painted onto the hulls will be flames similar to this (this Rhino is not mine nor was painted by me):

Thanks guys. No new pics today, as I am still waiting on a few more bits orders to arrive. I've been working on some of my Death Angels but nothing of pic worthy quality yet.

In the meantime, I'm thinking of a new unit to add to the Death Angels that is based on the movie Thirteen Ghosts. Does anyone have any good ideas for different models currently out there that would provide good base models for each individual ghost from the movie?

Well my tanks are pretty much finished as far as building goes. Just need some paint on them now. But before I do that, I'm going to build up my Death Angels CSM back up to a playable level again. The Death Angels have been a WIP since about the beginning of 40K 3rd edition. Their fluff has gone through a few changes, and with it, the look and theme of the army. They started out as one of the lost Legions, complete with a Primarch who began dabbling in Necromancy and before you know it, the Legion was condemned as herectical. So they were just like the other Traitor Legions except they used ghosts and wraiths instead of demons. As far as playing them, they were pretty much a mish mosh of the main 4 Chaos powers, although modeled to fit the "undead" theme. For example, here is a unit that would be used as either normal CSM or "Blood Lords" (using the rules for Khorne Berserkers).

Here is a Land Raider that converted several years ago for this army.

And here is the Defiler that I made before the actual Defiler kit came out. Building is complete on it. It just needs to get the painting finished on it.

So I played that army for a while, but something about it just never felt "right." Then Pirates of the Caribbean came out, and I suddenly found my new inspiration. My army would be a cursed "skeletal/ghost" army like the movie. So I rewrote the fluff, making them a second founding chapter of Blood Angels who got set up and ambushed, with the survivors having to flee into a warp anomaly that led to the Netherworld, only to return some years later as Revenants seeking revenge on those that betrayed them and ambushed them. And thus we have the army I am working on now. Although it's taken quite a while to get them to this point, as I got sidetracked with other projects and only worked on the army sporadically. So now that several of my bits orders arrived last week, I spent most of last week working on the Death Angels. And here is what I have so far.

These are all still very much WIP and far from finished. First a pic of the army so far:

That is, from left to right, 20 Terminators, 10 Chosen, 4 Heavy Weapon models, 4 units of 10 CSM, 1 Terminator Lord, 5 half-built Raptors, and 9 Obliterators.

Next up, some pics of my Terminators showing some of the detail work I have been doing for their right shoulder pads.

Next up are my Obliterators. Finally got the molds made of the lower torsos so I could get started on them.

These are some of my Chosen models. Basically they are made from Khorne Berserker bodies with all the Khorne icons cut off and replaced with skulls.

Made in us
Crazed Spirit of the Defiler

So I was thinking my Obliterators were lacking something. Like they were needing something to make them more "bulkier" but not necessarily "bigger." After a few minutes of playing with the bits box, I came up with this. What do you think?
