Subject: Looking for ideas for making a converted Emperor's Champ.

I'm almost done assembling my Black Templar successor chapter army and the final model I need is an Emperor's Champ.
So with that, I really want to make it a unique centerpiece to my army and want something a little different from the standard model, as much as I do like it.
So I turn to you Dakka...any suggestions on where I should start on a conversion for an emperor's champion or where I could turn for some inspiration?
Have you guys seen any good, unique Emp. Champs on Coolminiornot?
Any suggestions do not require use of the actual GW EC model.
My modelling skills are decent but I'm not great with greenstuff sculpting so it's use would have to be a bit limited.

For my old homebrew chapter, I used one of the "ancient" marines in alternative armors... I think it was Mk4 (Maximus?)... studs on the legs, cabling on the torso and helmet.
Looked suitably fierce and different from the rest of the chapter. I think I kitbashed a Mephisto for the "relic blade" - then a power sword - and gave him a shield from a Bretonian that the FLGS let me have.
Take a look in your bits box and patrol the interwebs for bits and cool models. It's pretty easy these days to kitbash one or more models for pieces that look awesome with a bit of glue and greenstuff.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

I do have a lot of Brettonian bits (which I have used on other marines for my chapter)...so some of that will likely work its way in.
I think I'm going to start looking for a theme to work with. Check out some bits I could order, some Frank Frazetta art, Arthurian themed art, etc.

This is one I built years ago during 3E when anyone could take a Champ. I've yet to really look at the new rule enough to see if he'd be fieldable as anything, but at least the pose might give some inspiration. Hell, I don't even know if THIS model would be usable as an EC in the current rules.
As a bonus, except for the base (which could be done with anything, I just had a big Prism hanging about) it's all plastic.

Hey M8ball,
yeah, there's nothing really strict about ECs (unless you're TFG who spazzes over WYSIWYG).
Thanks for the post...I'm trying to get ideas form all sources.
But at this point, I'm looking to see what good Medieval helmet bitz I can find at the moment and what overall pose would be good.

I always like to say the sometimes the simplest models look the best, so that saying I wouldnt load him up with to much junk. If you are looking for a really sweet sword. The old GK force sword is awesome. You would just have to remove the bolt pistol that is built into the handle if you want, or just leave it. And then model the mini to not look awkward either holding it with 2 hands or just one.
