Ok, I've got 2 fairly recent 40k models I need some info on. I haven't decided if I will part with them but I'm wondering why I should keep them if I don't plan to actually paint them. The first one is the SM Iwo Jima scene, all metal made of several pieces and has a representation of a BA, DA and UM.

The second model I have is a UM Banner bearer. This one has a metal base, 40mm or so with the UM grasping the banner about mid way up so that the banner and pole are both in his grasp. He's holding a Bolter aiming toward his left.

Can anyone tell me where these two models originate? I say originate since I don't think they were released by GW in a generic sense. Were they Direct only purchases? Roughly what years they were released? I'm a pretty good painter but to be honest, I don't think I can do these two pieces justice which is why I'm wondering if I should keep them or let them go. If I do decide to let them go I'll post in the Swap thread so anyone here at Dakka can know.

Thanks for any info.

Slightly bemused... never seen those before.

Are they genuine GW models? They are very accurately done if they aren't.

Both were part of the Skullz offer a few years back. You'd get little stickers every time you bought something, and could redeem them for those (and other) models. To show just how much I bloody spent, I have one of the standard bearer, and 2 of the diorama.

They're both limited edition i.e. you can't get them anymore, and the Iwo Jima-esque model is an utter (expletive) to put together. It wasn't cast very well.

I think both are Mail Order Special Models or at least one. You got them when you bought enough stuff from the Mail Order.

Lol, I remember Skullz. I never bothered with them, which is probably why I never saw these guys.

I say persevere with them Rymafyr. The Iwo Jima model will make a good scenery piece/objective.

As said they're skullz models.
The Iwa Jima set goes for $50-$100 depending on condition and if you can prove its authentic.
It's also the only Ultramarine model I'm still looking for... hint hint

The banner bearer usually goes for $30-$50.

Thanks for the info guys. These were my cousin's models, we'd gotten into 40k together and he'd always order stuff from GW. He passed away a few years ago, so I do have some emotional attachment to them. So that makes sense, I remember him talking about the skullz program.

yeah, both are authentic I just couldn't find any info on either of them the last few days despite multiple Google searches. I've been going through quite a bit of his unfinished models, I finished up his Word Bearers and there are just a large assortment of other 40k minis that I doubt I'll ever use. It'll take me awhile to get through everything I don't think I'll use and when I do I'll make a post in the swap so everyone can know. These were just 2 that were very difficult to find info on.
