I had some hawk legs from a bitz buy off EBay, some old original hawk wings from a model I killed long ago and leftover torso, arms and heads from the plastic Avengers I bought recently. I have no particular desire to use an Autarch in may army, but it can't hurt to have the option, so I used these various leftovers to build a Hawk Autarch. I used a bit of Green Stuff (first time ever for me - had to buy it especially) to make a sash around his waist where the parts joined, just like all other Autarch models have. I was not too happy with the sash, but it should be okay once painted. I tried to make some mandiblasters, but it proved to fiddly for me.

Oh, and I made a base out of snapped up bits of sprue and some sand.

I thus present my first conversion.

I am planning on a black and red paint scheme as my Craftworld is Altansar. I am using a lot of ivory/bone on my Wraithguard so I will try to incorporate that too. I think a black/red flyer shoudl look good in comparison to the normal lighter shaded hawks.

It looks good, use a set of exarch wings and it will look 100% better.

I thought about that. I have a pair of exarchs and I can't decide if I am ever likely to use both at once and whether one should just lose his wings or get demoted to regular hawk and get my last spare pair of regular wings.

I like the understated size of these wings, somehow I think exarch wings would just overpower the (currently extremely well balanced) 'flow' of the model.

Nice conversion.

Standing right behind you...

Pretty good modelling with the metal (hate working with metal), nice mini.

I agree, I think that if you went for Autarch wings it would too large in comparison to the body.
Brilliant idea by the way

Thanks guys. With your support, I think I'll go for the undersated look of the smaller wings.

Nice conversion, I think the wings work very nicely, good proportions.

Autarchs have trod the paths of the aspect shrines, but was never trapped in them and hence, never became exarchs. The gear allowed to them in the lists is only aspect warrior gear, not exarch gear, so it makes sense that he'd have little wings instead of big ones.

The only improvement I would incorporate is to magnetize the arms so that you could equip him with a few different weapons, notably a fusion gun. Let's see him painted!

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

He is supposed to be landing.

By the way, I thought (and hoped and prayed) that I would never see that avatar again. You've ruined my evening.

That's pretty darn sweet for a first conversion! I do agree that if you have some exarch wings lying around they would look more impressive, but that's excellent work as is.

The autarchs are some of my favorite eldar miniatures purely because of the 'use up the cool bits lying around' potential.

Yes, Kittythulhu has graciously posed for my avatar pic. And it only cost half my soul! http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167622
