For those of you who followed my previous Project Log, you will know I started switching over my Death Guard army to be predominantly based on the Forgeworld Plague Marines as the base for my army. Well, I decided to take it a bit further and use Forgeworld models for everything I could that is currently available in the Forgeworld model range, as far as Nurgle based models are concerned.

Rather than adding to my previous Project Log I wanted to start anew as this is essentially a totally new army in terms of the models, paint scheme, composition, etc.

I've also decided that I want this log to showcase completely finished miniatures as much as possible, leaving work in progress to a minimum. While it is no doubt really cool to see models posted from start to finish, this army doesn't have nearly as many conversions, sculpting work, etc. and so I really want this log to showcase my painting rather than conversion work.

Ok, so I've been droning on about the army enough, let's get to the good stuff!

Plague Marine Squad 1:

Plague Marine Squad 2:

Plague Marine Squad 3 - Aspiring Champion WIP - 75% done

Plague Marine Squad 4 - Aspiring Champion WIP - 75% done

Nurgle Dreadnought with converted SM Mk IV CCWS - WIP 80% done:

Vindicators - optional combi-weapon pintle mounts with FW Plaguemarine torsos forthcoming:

Vindicator 1:

Vindicator 2:

Daemon Prince - paint scheme updated from my previous army scheme:

Obliterators - paint scheme updated from my previous army scheme:

Still to be completed I have:

x3 Rhinos with FW doors

X1 Land Raider with FW doors

x2 Defilers - update the paint scheme on this guy and build a second based off the Soul grinder

x5 Terminators

x1 Dreadnought - SM/CSM Dread kit bash with magentized arms I never got around to finishing.

x14 Lesser Daemons - conversions that will remain secret until finished. ;D

x1 FW GUO of Nurgle - or I may get around to painting this beast. possibly both.

So I hope the pictures were worth putting up with my rambling. The staggered set up for the PMs messed with the sharpness of the photos a bit so they are slightly out of focus in some of the pics which spoils some of the detail but I'll try and work on that in future updates.

Comments and criticism are most welcome!

Edit: Paint scheme added upon request.

Prime Black

Armor:

Catachan Green

Drybrush Camo Green

Drybrush Rotting Flesh

Wash with Didi's Magic Ink Green/Black(available from the warstore) at about 3:1 - doesn't have to be exact

Drybrush Bleached bone

Wash with Didi's Magic Ink Brown(available from the warstore) - two light coats

Armor Trim:

Reaper Master series Tarnished Brass

Wash with Devlan Mud - two coats

Skin:

Graveyard Earth/Shadow grey about 2:1

Highlight Kommando Khaki

Highlight Bleached Bone

I'm probably going to add a wash for the final step as the skin is a bit too bright as is.

Those are really nice looking! The effects are subtle and believable. Everything looks to be part of the same whole. The tanks and dread are my favourite as the larger areas seem to really work with the "living" painting you've done.

The only gripe I have is that the bases are too close in color to the marines, so they tend to melt in to the bases.

Great effort and thanks for sharing!

those are great! All those little holes in the vindicators... Must have been so much work... Looks amazing, infact, all of it does.

The bases look a better in person. I realized using earth tones on the bases would not contrast well, but I didn't want to use bright green grass just for the sake of contrasting the mini and the base. I felt the bases should look dead like the presence of the Plague Marines were rotting and decaying everything around them, hence the dead grass.

You have no idea. I almost went crazy drilling all those damn holes! My sanity my snap since I still have 3 rhinos and a landraider that need the same treatment.

Thanks for the feedback!

amazing job!
any chance of seeing the nurgle ogryns atall?
hoping a decent paint job will make them look better than the ones on FW's site.

Tomb Kings carrion wings. You have to saw them in half but they are a perfect fit!

Yep, I have a set of 5 Berserker Ogryns on order from FW for my LaTD daemon army. Some Apostate preachers as well. After I finish up my DG I'll begin a new log for my LatD daemons, which has a good bit of FW goodies in it as well.

been tempted to buy some, but no use in an ork army, so i was waiting to see some finished.

Your Vindis look incredible. I love the subtle surface effects, like the small pitting and boils. Boils... on metal. Makes my brain hurt, and that is exactly what a Nurgle army is supposed to do. I love it, kudos.

really loving this army so far. you're not drilling the vehicles by hand are you? that would drive any one crazy. the effect though is amazing - will have to steal it!
love the changes you made to the nurgle sorcerer - fits really well - as do all the back banner pieces you added to the rest.
how are you painting these - is it just rotting flesh with a develan mud wash over (it looks more complicated than that - I'm just hoping!).
can't wait to see the dread finished and the ogryns too - did you have any trouble sticking them together?

It exudes so much character and appears to balance fluff and game effectiveness. Someone hasn't forgotten the sacred numbers.

The paintwork is absolutely stellar. I may have missed it, but how will you distinguish who is who in each squad?

I love the conversion of what looks like a fly on the Demon Prince's left arm. The head with gas mask is flawless and so fitting. Other than green stuff, I'm completely stumped where the head came from.

Overall, a fantastic army that really oozes with the 40K background.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I should keep my LaTD log running at the same time as this one once I get a few more DG things painted and the Bererker ogryns should be one of the first things I convert. That log I'll be posting stuff unpainted so I should have some pics for them in a few weeks if FW ships them to me quickly.

Yes, I'm drilling the holes by hand with a pin vice. it's it very tedious work but I'm glad everyone likes it because it's probably one of the more time consuming parts, especially the tiny holes arounds the big ones that were made with a tack pushing it into the plastic. That doesn't even show in the pictures though. The models go together very easily. you just have to make sure and give them a good scrubbing with an old toothbrush first and they glue pretty much just like plastic on plastic.

I forgot to post the paint scheme earlier so I'll add that to the first post so everyone can reference easily if they like.

I don't really. Just mix the regular bolter plaguemarines in the the approriate special weapons and champ.

The fly is actually part of the Nurgle Daemon prince sculpt. I don't think I could pull off anything that well with my sculpting! The head is a shaved down WFB Ogre head with a plastic Orc Warboss tusked mask with the tusks replaced with vents and then just green stuff added to extent the straps on the mask. I never connected them all the way around the back, which is something that has bothered me on the model for a long time. I may have to remedy that at some point.

Thanks again for all the comments everyone! It really makes all the effort worthwhile. I should have a few more updates to post by the end of the weekend.

As always these look great!

Perhaps some more variation on the brass would look better, but the down to earth and natural look could be then lost.

The standard bearer and the champ are really nice conversions as the conversions are not obvious.

Brilliant work, those tanks are remarkable! Thats some serious modeling and great dedication to a project. I'm sure drilling those holes must have been quite tedious but the end result is well worth it. I know how you feel, when I was adding the photo etch components to my T34 and cutting sections out of it I thought it would never end, but with a little patience and a vision of what you really want you can get fantastic results! Hats off to you sir.

The painting is also of a very high standard and really breathes life into those wonderful forgeworld models. I especially like the Nurgle sorcerer conversion.

I'm not sure how the baneblade is. I sold it to a guy in Australia months go. He offered too much money for me to say no. The raptors I sold to a guy locally simply because I never used them and he really wanted them. In fact, I don't own most of my old DG army any more. I started selling off alot of it once I began switching everything over to FW stuff.
