I got sent an automated PM asking me to come back...cute.

So, here's what I'm doing at the moment in the world of 40K.

Well, asides from painting over 80 Deffskulls..

Pre-heresy Salamanders! First up is my take on Vulkan He'stan. I didn't want to clone the artwork, particularly as this is Pre-heresy, so it's not going to be 100%.

My base model is the techmarine from the servitors boxed set. I used the left arm and body from that.
Right arm is from Pedro Kantor.
The helmet is the hormed chaos marine helm.
Cloak is from a Corsair.
Chaos marine backpack cut down.
Graveguard blade and flamer stock for the halberd.
Ogre Bull straps 'loincloth'.
Chaos knights for shoulder pads.

Base colours, next to golden boy:

Veeery cool! For all the different kits used in that it meshes incredibly well. Those spiked shoulders were from WHFB Chaos Knights?

Hmmm, nice work, love the Chaos Knight shoulders.

I just picked up a corsair cloak for a CSM character and am still not sure if it works 'under' the backpack. I was thinking of just using the cloak, maybe with a couple of back pack vents poking out?

He clutched it tightly in his hand and turned towards his foe letting it build in the twin energy spheres and then finally! RELEASE! I really like this. I almost used a techmarine when I was making my Vulkan conversion, but the cables were bugging me. You seem to have just gone with them, and truthfully I think I may have been worried for no reason; they sort've fit the look you've got going on.

Quite nice.

Pure genius, that thing is gorgeous!!! Thanks for listing the materials, I'm not making vulcan but those shoulders are delicious...gonna get some too!

Nuclear: Properly pronounced new-clear, not new-cue-lir. There is no 'u' between the c and l, so stop saying it because it just makes you sound like a dumbass. This includes nucleolus, and all other derivatives of the word.

I'm genuinely impressed, and believe me, it's not easy to impress me with a conversion not involving at least 40% scratchbuilding. You found the perfect match for all components.

Another post celebrating the Jawsome factor of this model. One question, are the skulls the spouts for the flamer part of the gauntlet?

Really good work, i like hwo you used the chaos marine pack without him looking chaos-y.

Also, the emperor makes me pray to god i can find a WiP or Tut for him! Looks amazing.

I did some Alpha legion before deciding on Salamanders, here's a shot of the cloaks under packs - just trim the top of the cloak to a flat, since it's obscured by the backpack anyway.

I'm flattered

I did consider that, but the pose of the hands is very.. Spiderman. I am tempted to do a Huron Blackheart job on his palm.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I look forward to some critique and less achey jaws

I'm hoping to work on them today and take better pictures. Here's an old shot of the first tactical squad:

Stunning conversion work and a very interesting choice of model to do. I never once thought of using Corsair cloaks as you have; very nice touch.

I'm really looking forward to more work on this thread. Thanks for posting.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Thanks for that link, and is it me or does that horus look kind of like they put a scrawny little kid into a suit of power armour.
