DROOOL!!

Hammer posted this at our forum. Dunno, if it's old news here, but I certainly haven't seen it mentioned:

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

So this follows after Tales of Heresy, then or is there another in the series I've missed?

Tales of the Heresy-- which I've read/got...it's good.

Then Fallen Angels-- Mike Lee's dark Angel book, follows on from Descent of Angels

Then Prospero Burns.

Then, AFAIK, McNeill's counterpoint book from the 1k sons perspective/continuation.

lol, my first impression of that cover was "Boy, you can probably smell that guy 20ft away!". I guess the only thing Leman Russ hated more than Chaos and the Dark Angels was a bath!

Could you imagine trying to hold Russ in a tub while still being able to bathe him? If my Dachshunds are a 2 person job, it probably takes at least a whole Tactical Squad to bathe Russ, and that's a mammoth waste of resources.

Didn't know Tales was already out. I'm hoping Fallen Angels makes Descent of Angels a worthwhile addition to the HH series.

Tales isn't already out.....never what you know right ?

I did a fairly spoiler free review here

Fallen Angels apparently follows on from "Descent..."

As news of Horus’s treachery spreads, the Great Crusade grinds to a halt as the primarchs and their Legions decide where their loyalty lies – with the Emperor, or the rebel Warmaster Horus. In this sequel to Descent of Angels, the Dark Angels too face a time of testing, both in the stars, and on their home world, Caliban.

Arriving in the Gehinnom system, Lion’el Jonson and a force of Dark Angels set about subjugating the system’s core worlds which are key to the Warmaster’s plans to overthrow the Emperor.

Meanwhile, on Caliban, Luther and the rest of the Legion feel abandoned by their primarch. Civil war erupts as the planet strives to break from Imperial rule, and the Dark Angels are thrown into a deadly conflict where all that they know and trust is thrown into doubt."

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

Descent of Angels is the worst one by far... I'm having lots of trouble getting though it because it's so boring.

Everything I've read by Dan Abnett is amazing. Everything.

I'm probably one of the few that enjoyed Descent of Angels, it gave a nice peek into the background of the Dark Angels. Worst HH novel award has got to go to Battle for the Abyss. Counter is a horrible writer.

Isn't that the reason for the old joke concerning the IG tank naming convention:

Leman Russ: Ugly, Smelly, Tough, Destructive, Loud, Runs on Alcohol, just like the original!

While it does give some nice background, it doesnt focus on the persona of Lion as the other books focused on their respective primarch.
I think that kinda sucked. BftA is horrible, I agree!

Nice preview. That could be excellent

Too bad Russ looks like the ugliest girl I have ever seen and his "Wolves" look like really furry pigs...

My brother should be happy however.

All a matter of opinion; quite like the cover. The wolves strike me as pretty "dire(ish)", which is how I've always pictured them. It would have been better if we could have seen the body to provide scale with the head.

Any ideas/comments as to the female(?) swordbearers in the background?

The problem i'm having with the artwork is the scale of Russ....assuming it is Russ on the cover...he's a bloody midget!

I had the same issue with Lion El...he was described as being a head taller then a normal human!?!? Whats that, I thought all the Primarchs were half again the height of a Marine....they were practically Giants, weren't they?

Man down, Man down....

I AM going to judge this book by one particular part of the cover.....the part that says

"by Dan Abnett"

I think I have only read one of his books that I didn't like, and thats because I really didn't care about the subject matter....and yet the last 50 pages STILL rocked, so I have faith, and am happy that this particular book is in the hands of the master.
