Hi as you can see I'm new here on the forum I got back to the hobby after a break of 5 years. I used to post back then but can't find back my old account details. I'm picking up the painting and modelling part of the hobby again and to keep me motived I'm going to start a blog on this forum and a blog on blogger as well.

Reasoning for the name Vandhir's Worshop? I couldn't pcik the username Kagar on blogger so I chose this one. Both are names of characters I play in Warhammer online at the moment.

Before I quit the hobby I was working on my Witchhunter Warband, my first goal I set myself after I started again was to finish the warband. It was a small target and easily accomplished.

I'll start with posting pictures of the warband members that I finished before I too my break.

My Witchhunter Captain:

My 2nd Witchhunter:

My Warrior Priest:

I'll be updating this post in the coming days quite a lot because the warband is allready completely finished.

look great. It looks like you used a varnish to give it a shine. I prefer matte varnish, but those look ok. Nice detail work.

Thanks Mack, I used a can of GW matt varnish to protect the models. However I think that back then I applied a thick coat in one go which dried up glossy. When I'm going to varnish the whole warband I'm going to give these a light coat as well, to see if it becomes a bit more dull.

Small note, I used Red Glaze on the coats of the models to give them a bit of shine, this is used on the other models with red coats as well.

Gotta respect the guyliner. Lord knows I can only pull it off once in a while. (On the models, I mean)

Hey now, there is no Chap-stick visible in any of his pictures, otherwise I'd give it a coolness rating of 10.

Enough talk about make up for men

Here is an update with models that weren't finished when I quit so I performed some fresh paintwork on them and did their bases.

Zealots:

Flagellants:

Next update will include the models that are completely painted up from scratch after my 5 year break. I personally think that my painting quality hasn't become worse.

I've also created a blog on blogger:

I love me some Mordheim so its always nice to see a new log for it on here.

Good start here though one thing I would suggest is adding more variety to the bases. Mordheim is the perfect setting for all kinds of junk to be on bases, from the weird and wonderful (fish!) to the more mundane.

Looking forward to more.

Cheers,

Great work Kagar,

I love the warrior priest a fantastic sculpt and your painting on the robes really brings it to life.

With regard to the gloss varnish, one way to remove this would be to give it a coat of Testors Dull Cote. Dull cote helps to tone down gloss varnish and makes it much more matt in its apprearance. I had a similar problem once with a mini and I found it really helpful.

Great attention to detail and some very neat freehand painting. I agree with Dante, perhaps some more work on the bases would be good, if not scenery or debris perhaps some flock?

Thanks Gundam,

I wish I could claim that I sculpted the robes on the warrior priest but my GS handling skills haven't develloped so far yet. It's an original 40K priest model for the Imperial Guard, however it might be oop now.

As stated before I'm going to try to reapply mat varnish to see if the gloss on the models dulls out a bit. The direct lighting doesn't help out either, irl it looks less glossy. Could you give me some further info about the solution you suggest? Is Testors also a varnish used for modelling or is it something else?

I'll look into doing the bases later on but for now I'll keep them this way. I'll also post another update today with recent additions to my Witchhunter warbands and there are also some conversion included.

Haha yes I know, I was just commenting on it being a great sculpt generally speaking!

As for Testors Dull cote, it is a spray based matt varnish from the USA than specifically dulls down shiny gloss varnish coats (hence the name dull cote).

I can buy it in the UK from a local model store, I think it should be widely available in Europe, it works a treat!

Here's the last update for the Witchhunters so far. I've allready started work on my next projects. Foto's of them will follow soon.

However now it's time to take a look at the members of my Witchhunter warband that were modelled, converted and painted recently by me.

I'll start of with two Hounds, I've got 4 of them in total but I don't think they are that special.

Next are two Witchhunters, the first one is a stock metal model. The second one is made with plastic components from the Mordheim Mercenaries sprue.

Now I come to the first conversions I've done since I've started work on my miniatures again.
First is a metal model which comes from the Witchhunters boxed set as a Zeallot. However I gave him a flail / morning star that is made from the pole of plastic lantern and a bell from another GW sprue. I'll use him as a Flagellant ingame, allthough I know that these Henchmen can't use shields the people I play aren't that strict regarding WYSIWYG.

The second conversion I want to show is a model that will be use as a Zealot. I like the mad setting of Mordheim and for this conversion I was inspired by some models in 40K who carry a banner in their backpack. The parts I used were the pole from a Lantern, a plastic skull and the book from the Mordheim mercenaries sprue. I also created a torch by chopping of the top of a club and making a flame with some greenstuff. Last I added a plastic sword with a purity seal.

Last is my first serious attempt to adding some bigger parts on a model with greenstuff. The idea was to create a Henchman who has a wicker basket on his back as a backpack which will be filled with Wyrdstone shards. The left arm was also created from various parts as there was no shooting left hand with a pistol. The last part I added was a walking cane that has a heavy metal head which can be wielded as a mellee weapon.

As my Witchhunter is more or less complete for now I've started on my next project.

Prior to quiting the hobby I was working on the very humble beginning of a Tau army. Most models weren't even assembled untill two weeks ago, last week I spend a few evenings assembling and this is the result.

20x Firewarrior
4x Kroot
11x Drones

There is some stuff that is allready finished from 5 years ago, I'll make photo's of these later on today.

Here are the Firewarriors up close:

Kroot, these include one small conversion with some GS work so I can use him as a shaper if I want too.

Here is how i'm painting them at the moment

Their fatigues are painted in the following steps:

Basecoat 50/50 Chaos black / Dark Angels Green
Heavy dry brush of Dark Angels Green
Light dry brush of Snot Green

Armor plating is Camo Green and will be highlighted with Camo Green mixed with some white

Nice tau. its good to see an original scheme, although they do look a little 'teenage mutant ninja turtles' with the green and tan, but we can keep that a secret!

Are you batch painting them? Hope its not too time consuming.

I'm batch painting them, started work on the first 7 Tau now, will try to mix work on them with other project. I know from the past that painting troops wasn't my greatest hobby. I'm painting the batch till they are all at the same stage as the picture shown above. After that there will be some cleaning up here and there, some washing and highlighting and detail work of course. Their shoulder guards will be painted seperately and glued on later on.

The models shown in the previous update will all be painted in the colour scheme shown below:

Still working on the first new Firewarriors. I think that they are 60-70% done now. I plan on finishing them this week.

Over the last week I've completed work on the Firewarriors I was working on. I worked on 7 unpainted ones and I did some detailing on the old Firewarriors.

The old Firewarriors with new detailing:

Next I'll show some stages of the paintwork of the new Firewarriors:

After the last stage in my previous update all the weapons were painted Chaos Black and the "eyes" in the helm were painted:

After this the weapons were painted with Camo Green as well and details were picked out. I didn't want to go overboard on the detailwork cause I don't want to spend ages on these models and want to have a finished army.

I painted the shoulder guards seperatly so they wouldn't make it to hard for me the paint the model. I glued them on and proceeded with cleaning up the paintwork.

Models were then based with sand which was painted black and drybrshed with grey and white. Afterwards small clumps of static grass were applied as well.

The finished result:

This week I completed work on the Stealthsuits. I they allready had paint on them and I must say that the paintwork progressed very fast on them. Seeing that they are cast in once piece except for their backpack they are easy models to paint and work on hem goes faster then plastic Firewarriors.

I'll start with showing the old state they were in before I did anything to them. Back then I tried painting some camo / disruptive pattern on the barrel of their weapons. However I wasn't that happy with it so I decided to repaint it with Camo Green.

Here is the before picture:

After 4 to 6 hours in total I completed work on them and this is how the finished models look:

Squadmarkings will be painted on later on, but for now I'll continue working on the bulk of my army.

On my workbench at the moment are a Tau Ethereal and a Kroot Ox. I expect to post pictures of them within two weeks.

Very sweet Tau! Well done at getting back into the painting so quickly. You're at a very high standard. Once your army is completely painted it'll look great.

Keep it going!

Thanks for the compliments guys

@ mccartney

I must say that I've surprised myself, I didn't expect to be painting at this standard after a five year break. I'm happy that I'm able to paint to a standard that is equal or higher then when I quit painting.

I'm also impressed by the amount of work I've done this month so far. I know there are people here who finish a complete army in the time span of 1 or 2 months.

But for me that's kind of hard with a fulltime job, housekeeping, girlfriend and other responsibilities.

Great work Kagar, those fire warriors look very smart, nice colour scheme.

I think the Stealth suits looks much better in the second photo with normal cannon barrels. I must admit that I have never liked disruption painting on stealth suits, its extremely diffcult to pull off and I don't think it will ever give the effect that we want. Often it ends up just looking cartoony or just odd.

Personally I think the only place it can work in minis is in something like a Tyranid Lictor, where its the skin of the creature that changes to be invisible or disrupted. There its a chemical change and still a physical object, but with an invisibility or cloaking shield its a different thing and is much harder to capture.

Nice work. My old SoB army used to have 120+ of those mordiheim models that I used as redemptionists. I painted like 10 of them and couldn't bear to do the rest LOL.

I always wanted to paint the "warrior Priest" to look like the singer in prodigy.
